Even though that would be awesome if it were true, and would simplify this complicated disaster into a simple good/evil thing for the uneducated masses to lap up, that's just wrong. BP owned the rigs for years. If they'd been doing proper safety inspections, there shouldn't have been a problem, regardless of who owned the rigs before them. If they were getting old, or parts and systems were wearing out, then they should have shut down a rig for a refit.
