Just finished Kana: Imouto, I was seriously disappointed. Everyone hyped it, and it wasn't that good. Did anyone else find it to be mediocre?

Muramasa is number one favorite, but the rest of my top 5 is English titles. That's because I have way too much good non-translated VNs to read, and it's hard to decide on which one to read next. For example, I have SubaHibi, Baldr Sky, Evolimit and Ludesia installed right now, and I will read Steins;Gate as soon as it hits the PC scene, so I don't think I will be able to read them all in time.

pretty much any of the Eushully games, especially the Battle Goddess story continuum. Personaly I find the whole setting of Ikusa Megami/Genrin series better than Rance series,also its more serious story than rance is. Like I like to say, if you want well done serious fantasy setting go for IM/Genrin, or if you want sell done comedic fantasy setting go for Rance.

First by a wide margin, I pretty much loved everything about it to death. The writing is fucking great, the cast is amazing, it has a lot of style and a lot of substance, at times I was amazed by all the awesomeness that was happenig, at other times I laughed hard.
And it's never cheap nor too heavy, it's just amazing.

For the others it's a bit hard to rank them, a top 10 would probably be easier for me, anyways:

2nd: Oretsuba
Best cast in eroge + great writing + awesome humor that doesn't go for paper toiler shit or simple parody but is actually witty.
And the plot is actually pretty good as well.

3- Ayakashibito
Kind of similar to Muramasa, though on the lighter side.
Lots of badass shit + some great humor and dialogues with some awesome characters and a pretty good story.

4-Subarashiki Hibi
It has an awesome presentation, with an amazing soundtrack, some pretty good writing and a very intriguing and interesting story.
The big twist was too obvious, the author was a bit too heavy on the references and quotes to push his themes and it felt a bit cheap at times but it's still an awesome experience.

5-Swan Song
I still have shivers when I remember the normal ending.

Others that could make the top include Himawari for Aqua's story, Forest for having Reepicheep from Narnia being an awesome badass, Muv-Luv Alt for the fucking epic second half, Ikusa Megami Zero for Haisherra and G-senjou no Maou because I love mind games and detective story, also the true end was beautiful.

And that's it for my shitty opinion.

If you're going completely blind it can be unbearable. Pretty much you run every line through 2-5 different translators and try to collect the gist of it. It's incredibly slow I'm sure. Mostly I think people here know some degree of Japanese, and augment that with using dictionaries to look up words here and there. If you at least know gradeschool grammar and the basic of the basic kanji then the whole process becomes much faster and more understandable.

Zero is good to start with, chronologically it's the first in the series after all.
Verita also needs the Genrin series.

Well it's possible to play Verita without playing the genrin games as I did. You don't really get that lost with it as most revelant facts are mostly told with enough detail. It's different with Zero tough as Verita relies heavily in the second part of the story to plot points that were left hanging at the end of Zero.

The chronological order of events in Battle Goddess story contunuum are:
IM Zero > Genrin 1 > Genrin 2 > IM Verita > IM 1 (there has been rumors that next IM game would be remake if this) > IM2
So that would be generally good order to play them

probably should mention if you are thinking about playing all of them. But IM1 and Genrin 1 are both really old and haven't aged that well, they are also kinda mediocre. And both Genrin 2 and IM2 both have summary novel respectively of their earlier game if you don't want to play them.

Besides the Battle Goddess series of games theres also Meishoku Reiki and Himegari, which both also happen in the same world but don't effect BG storyline, but they are still pretty nice more gameplay oriented titles and create more backstory to the world.

I've dedicated most of this week and last week to downloading HCGs and *using* them. As a result, I've been tempted to start playing the actual games. I've got a few downloaded, but I broke my eroge cherry with something simple. I started with "Semen Junkie". "Simple" is probably putting it too lightly, but it's pretty entertaining nonetheless.

Some *actual* games that I have waiting are "Akatsuki no Goei", "Icha Pri", "Hoshizora no Memoria" (with Eternal Heart), "Ten Shin Ran Man LUCKY or UNLUCKY", and "Zettai Junshu - Kyousei Kozukuri Kyokashou".

Have you tried the Kansen series? They involve a disease that affects a whole city, and there's a lot of raping of the main heroines. Kansen 3 has a sister-in-law character if sisters are your thing.

there really isn't that much story based VNs with heavy yuri, at most there are few routes that contain them, but not full thing centering on it. Only ones that come to mind are already mentioned SubaHibi which has 2 yuri routes, and Extravaganza which has few yuri routes too, but that has probably few other problems. Unless you want nukiges you are pretty much out of luck with heavy yuri focused story based VNs.

Burrough/Kanae's greatest strength is that it can kill most enemies in 1 hit with its broken shinogi.
But Masamune/Ichijou wouldn't be defeated in 1 hit, for obvious reason.
