My mom likes anime a lot more than I do. She actually thinks it's "art".

My family went to San Jose last last weekend because my younger sister had to visit the Tech Museum for an extra credit project. Turns out FanimeCon was going on at the convention center that day. We all laughed at the cosplaying nuts and crossdressing faggots. Feels good, being a stereotypical /jp/er and not identifying with those idiots.

My mother noticed when the postman started delivering all those boxes full of Japanese books and comics to us. She doesn't say much about any of it, but seems a bit creeped out by it.

My dad doesn't live with us. I wrote in my last letter to him that I can read Japanese now. He says he's proud of me for it.

>> No.5328734

OP is clearly underage b&.
And a faggot.

My parents know, but they don't care since my figurines are few but good quality, and I only have one poster which is the Japanese Amélie poster.

My dad knows, as I have a handful of wall scrolls and a figurine around my room. He knows it's just a hobby of mine and doesn't mind at all. I don't think the rest of my family knows, as I don't live with them.

I no longer live with my parents. But yes they know. I had a pink Dejiko clock on my wall all through high school along with a bunch of wallscrolls, figures, and even a rack of bokken in my room all through high school. They tried to watch anime with me sometimes. It was no worries.

Where does it say 'anime' on the top of this page?

>> No.5328839

How the hell would they NOT know when I'm still living with them, never go outside, have a copious collection of manga, video games, and anime and a decorative katana and wakizashi at the head of my bed?

Not to mention they fact that I am often going out to this huge Asian speciality market in a nearby city.

>> No.5328872

My dad knows, and he has no problems with it. He thinks it's less weird than my previous Powerpuff Girls obsession.

I'm not really into anime/manga specifically though, just all kinds of cartoons in general. I don't have any wallscrolls, figurines or anime DVDs, for example. I've thought of buying a figurine at some point, but decided against it because I'm pretty sure it's the first step down a path I don't want to take.

Oh wait, my mother knows too actually, but I live with my father.

>> No.5328875

They definitely don't know it since I doubt either of them even know about the existence of "this whole otaku culture thing" and I haven't lived with my parents for more 8 years. My sister can probably guess that I'm a weaboo even though I don't even see her more than maybe once per year.

there are maybe 2% of actual Japan-worshipping weeaboos on here. Most of us either actively hate Japan or don't care about it.
I drink milk and eat beef, but that doesn't mean I want to be a cow.

>>5328723
And by far not everyone here is into anime. Try VNs, doujinshi, Jap internet memes and touhou next time.
There are also some jpop idolfags, but they mostly keep to themselves. Their threads are almost like a seperate board from the rest of /jp/.

Okay bro, sure. I love how you faggots just assume that everyone on this board is exactly like you, no matter how stupid and farfetched it gets. And you actually seem to believe it to. Imagine people posting on a board called OTAKU CULTURE, watching anime. Ridiculous!

The number of people in the West who got into "otaku culture" from something other than anime or manga must be infinitesimally small. /jp/ split off from /a/ in the first place, obviously. Maybe you're in the 5% of western "otaku" who are only in it for the idols / visual novels / figures, but I highly doubt that. The whole anime subculture is intricately tied in with all those things. If you're too cool for anime or something then good for you but don't act like all or even a large percentage of /jp/ is like that.

>> No.5328966

>>5328926
Calm down, aspie.
Me, I'm totally into anime. It's just that I've noticed a lot of people on here who aren't.
>loves America
No, that would be disgusting.

By the way, you should work on your spelling a little. Just saying.

>> No.5328982

>>5328964
there are lots of people who got into otaku culture for the anime, but stayed for something else. A lot of those people will tell you that anime used to be cool, but everything produced nowadays is crap and not worth watching.

>> No.5328994

They gave me a depressed sigh when I told them I would be going to a crowded convention hall dressed like a Touhou, but other than that, they don't seem to have any problem. Hell, my dad's a Japanophile as well, just not so much the animes.

Such people are faggots who need to take off their nostalgia goggles. Either that or they are too impressionable and probably only feel that way due to popular opinion and their distaste with the "culture".

Except for that.
That's practically the only time I ever go outside...
Also, that word 'often' was a slip.
I don't go to it often, but I do go to it on occasion and its fairly obvious when I do.

>> No.5329138

>>5329039
What you think of those people is irrelevant. I merely said that many of them exist, and as >>5329093 has shown, you implied that you agree with that fact.
