The real reason /jp/ hates Katawa Shoujo now (they loved it when it was released) was because it was so popular immediately after release that there were more KS threads than Touhou/TypeMoon/DailyDose threads combined on the front page of /jp/ for a week.

It also became quickly apparent that /jp/ was far from the only place where the majority of users knew about KS. Other boards on 4chan and even other boards outside of 4chan were raving about KS, robbing /jp/ of the privilege of being the sole gatekeepers of entry into the VN world. If there's one thing an elitist nerd hates, it's no longer being needed by a newb who is interested in the same hobby. Accessible stuff like KS is to the VN world turns the highly knowledgeable otaku into just another useless loser again.

Then there's the newfags who waltz in, see everyone bashing something, and just do the same without knowing why to fit in.

The former group will never give an explanation to their reasoning because they know the real reason is stupid and can only thing of stupid bullshit reasons. The latter doesn't know what the reason is, so they parrot the aforementioned obvious bullshit reasons.

And that's the history of KS on /jp/.

Actually, the hate seemed to pile on overnight. It was pretty shocking. Even though there were too many KS threads, it was a fun week. A lot of good memes came out of it. I'm still amazed at how unspeakable a topic it became on /jp/. I never could have predicted that reaction. I thought KS was going to settle in with Touhou, Type Moon, Umineko theory, and Japanese Bird/Assorted Daily Doses as regular /jp/ material. I'm sad to see it stamped out so hard.
