You don't need to run over people to scare them the fuck away when you are driving a tank. They didn't expect a guy to be heroic enough to stand in front of them in the first place.

there's nothing sad about it.

the students/workers threatened to bring China back to the days of chaos, more importantly, student leaders saw it as a good chance to seek power, Mao style.

Deng was right to kill them all, and he was right to do all the reforms. Without the suppression or Deng, China would not have the stability to grow like it did.

take any shithole country that allowed those "revolutions" to take place successfully and see how much worse it became.

>stability to grow

Well, it sure looks great that he did totalitarist reforms to make China grow economically like it did, but lets look at this from the population perspective; China is socialist enough to have the bucketloads of bureaucracy and control over its population, and capitalist enough to allow Special Economical Areas to be made in the main cities, bringing dozens of multinational industries.

Now, if all the money from the outside investment was, as in a normal socialist government, given to invest in the population's needs and wants, it would be fine, however, the totalitarist government finance weapons to keep the very working mass on close leash.

Deng triggered all this; was it really nice for the population itself, or did it only helped the ruling few?

I know, and it makes me feel bad. ;_;

My subconscious is also a real coward. Some huge 20kg wooden boxes where dropping on my friends back, one of them hit his head from behind. I could have easily shielded him with just an arm in that split second, but the first thing my subconscious does is covering my own head even though none of them would be hitting me.

he was a pretty much ultra right wing leader who saw the need to create fortune at the expense of people's life and social justice.

the main driving force in the Chinese economy has always been the vast cheap labor force and their willingness to work underpaid, overtime. they would not have been mobilized if the government does not have the kind of control it does right now.

for sure people will live much more fairly and equally had the government been otherwise, but there's also a very good chance that very fast economic growth would not have happened at all.

what some people failed to realize is that without the kind of economic foundation China now has, equality would mean equally poor. actually even right now China doesn't have nearly as large an economy that it really needs, but at least it is a much better time to talk about equality than in the 80s when China pretty much had nothing.
