I look for story, characters and their interactions.

Best VNs I've read are:
-Ever17
-Fate/Stay Night
-Sharin no Kuni
Can't decide which one is my favorite.
Also, I'm learning to read japanese and right now I'm reading Sumaga with a help of a few programs.
If it keeps being awesome, it might be a good candidate for my favorite.

What I value most are the characters and the way they interact with each other. I don't mind VNs with a simple story as long as they do a good job at drawing you in and making you be able to sympathize with the characters and their situations, such as YMK or Crescendo in my opinion. VNs such as Cross Channel have plot twists, time loops, grimdark pasts, people dying, but it does nothing for me since the characters are so very hard to relate to and even if the premise of the VN, that is, being trapped in a certain place/time and being stuck with a handful of people, they barely interact with one another and often only interact with the MC.

I consider Ever17 to be the best since it has an excellent scenario and plot twists and at the same time it manages to do a good job with the characters and their interactions with one another. However, YMK will always be my favorite along with Symphonic Rain.
