It's like the old Eva on steroids. I actually prefer this, and, except for that Mari Sue they somehow decided to include, I believe it's a pretty good work. And with less emo angst. Sure it is apparent Anno is trying to go a bit more mainstream, but it's Eva we're talking about here, so yeah.

If you're downloading the raw that corresponds with the subtitle file you downloaded, start playing the video, go to File > Load Subtitle, and point it to the .ass file. This would be for media player classic. I'm not sure how other players do it, but it's probably similar. If you're downloading a movie that already has subs, then you won't need the subtitle file.
