Yakult apparently have lactobacilli which is a harmless bacteria. If a large number of this is in your intestine, it prevents the growth or the deadlier bugs.

Now, lets have a quick though shall we?
Bacterias usually need to be stored in a narrow temperature range to survive long distance transport. And if it indeed is still alive when it reaches your supermarket store, it will now need to battle the changing temp and condition to get back to your home fridge. Now if it is indeed still alive, it will now need to get pass the acidic nature of your stomach to reach your intestine. If indeed the bacterias could even reach there, it will now need to fight for residence among the other harmless bugs that is in your intestine.

tl:dr : They are probably dead when you drink them anyway. That said, they still taste awesome!
