Well soku fans I'm a day late this month, but here's this month's top ten ladder rating.
Remember that this is based on http://tenco.info/game/2/pov/1/type1/ an opt-in ladder program for Soku. The table is based on the average of the top ten players per character. The table is not a tiers list. It is merely a snapshot of the current performance of some Japanese players and the characters they use.

>> No.5210183

5210183

As an added bonus this month I translated the matchup table again.
How to read: Find your character on the left and move right. Those are the win %s against the character at the top of the column.
Note that the matchup table counts EVERY match of Soku ever played in every version at all skill levels. So while it isn't a completely accurate depiction of high level play it is a general performance checkup.

But really, how many nicovideos do you watch of people playing her? Because I frequently browse nicovideo for inspiration on how to play Alice, even though nobody plays her, and among the few people that do, I can count on one hand the number of people that know any combos for her beyond 6A > 6B, and I routinely see Utsuho kicking ass and taking names

use that as a directional reference, always assuming you're facing right. so, 1 would be holding down and left, 2 would be holding down, 3 down and right, 5 is neutral, 9 is jumping to the right, etc.

6c means holding right + c ("strong" projectile), 22c means hitting down twice + c.

>> No.5218716

>>5218676
First off, learn the terminology, it'll make things alot easier to explain.

Forward-C (or 6C) is the same as Down-Down-C (or 22C), except Down-Down-C does more damage and follows the enemy longer if it lands. hjc. means to "hyper-jump cancel" and you can do it after all bullets and MOST special attacks done on the ground; meaning after you do 22C attack on the ground, you can hold Up to immediately hjc. When you hjc., you can do another set of actions faster than you could if you had stayed on the ground, so you can follow up your ground 22C with a jumping 6C for more damage and extend your combos.

It's amazing, really. Without proper good players to teach bad players how to play and provide a role model, every single soku player, /jp/ or #hisouten, plays in the exact same way, and improves in the exact same way.

I can run the same frametrap over and over and over, it'll hit everytime. And the one time I try something different? That frametrap would have worked again. I can't play this game seriously at all anymore, I just don't care. Nobody learns.

There's no planning, no mindgames, no learning from mistakes, nothing.

There is only execution. The one thing anyone can improve in practice mode without even having to think. It's really hilarious. You play one guy, then another, and it's the exact same thing, only THIS guy can't quite get as much damage off his hits.

The hivemind is strong in this one. I can only laugh at it all.

well, you pretty much said it in your first sentence. you had the luxury of learning this game back when the best (non-japanese) players were still playing all the time.

it's pretty harsh for someone like me. my play style either works great (lower to equal tier), or is completely and effortlessly shut down (high tier), at which point any attempt to out think my opponent will be beaten by their superior understanding of frames and when to use which move to beat x during y, etc.. and when playing much better players is few and far between, there's little to learn off of. replays only do so much.

Why not divulge the "secrets" to your frametrapping in order to spark the learning process then? What you're doing is nothing more than whining if you're not willing to do the teaching you say isn't around. The one thing I hate about the IRC tier and high level players isn't that they're good (in fact, I actually enjoy seeing them in action) nor the asshat trolling they do to sucker in much weaker players when they're bored, it's the fact they're straight up cowards. You want to get better? You want to have more competition then the regular 6-10 people on your channel? You want to make the game fun for yourself again? THEN TEACH WHAT YOU KNOW! People fall for the same frametrap and don't learn from it? Chances are you need to explain how the trap works and ways to get out of it. Hell, if you don't want to tell 'em, guide them to someone who will! It seems to me all you faggots act as if you're afraid of being beaten by a former "scrub" and life will be over as you know it, so you horde all your "secrets", info you already know the average player doesn't know, in order to keep your "high tier" title. Then think you have the right to whine about why no one can become good? Shut the fuck up!

Why not be a good role model and act like one rather than bitch about the lack of them around here?

Good games, E-MAN; it's been too long! Just a couple of things: don't try to mash out after you block Meiling's one-inch punch, you'll get hit by f.5A every single time. Also, don't do the air-tech -> throw projectiles combo against Iku when she has the dragon whisker alt, it's pretty much asking to get hit again. Other than that, fun times.

Oh, yeah, and be careful about being too graze happy against Iku. Those drills were hitting you quite a bit.

My graze attacks weren't working with me as well (66B with Komachi/Sakuya still got me smacked in the face), so eating those Whiskers were the last thing I wanted, hence eating the Drills.

You'll never learn if you're just kicking the computers ass. I assume you can already go through Lunatic on your favorite character without any problems, right? Just doing that over and over again won't get you any better. In fact, you'll pick up bad habits of doing things that can fool a computer played but never actually work on a real player (like you diving over and over again).

Suck it up and get your ass kicked again and again online. That's the only way to get better.

And with that, it's time for me to head for bed. GGs, WASSHOI.

While combos are useful for dealing extra damage, knowing them doesn't help much if you can't hit anyone with them. However, with your skill level, there's not much more to learn from playing against the bot. The best would be to play against someone near your skill level, and preferably near your general area to avoid lag.

You probably noticed me sliding across the floor, trying to catch you while you're falling, or shooting a bat too early.

Not that I'm blaming the lag entirely for me sucking, but I would have done a little better if I timing my inputs right.

GGs, Seacats. Always annoying when alts perform better than mains... Your Reisen was giving my Patchy quite the time. I'd work on that midscreen "blockstring" you were using, the 5AA 5B HJC9 j.2A land 5AA. There seems to be quite the nice, abusable gap between the j.2A and the 5AA (unfortunately, I could only seem to punish it when I had a DP in hand, as opposed to manually executing it). I think you caught on to that towards the end though, since I saw you cancel one or two of the j.2As with bullets. Only other thing I can suggest is working harder on keeping your opponent grounded during your poison gas spellcard. The way you were using it, it was mostly a waste of 2 (3?) cards. Speaking of which, that card does damage before the round starts? What the hell is that shit? Soku, you never cease to amaze me. Well, thanks for the games, t'was fun.

I've just discovered some awesome Alice tricks. You need the laser alt 22 with all 3 dolls charged.
If you're near the corner and land a 6a, knocking the opponent down, you can do GUARANTEED damage no matter which way they tech!
If they roll out, do 4c hj7 j2c D1 66a. They'll wake up into the 66a, and while the bullets are hitting them, do 22b. The lasers can't be border escaped and they'll get crushed for 3000 damage.
If they stand straight up, do 2c 214c far 5a 2b. They'll wake up into the far 5a. They can't move between far 5a and 2b. When the c bullets hit, do 22b.
For the last one, if they roll back in place. Do 2c 214c, then hj9 j2c j66 ja. After the ja hits, the c bullets will hit. Walk back a little bit, then do 22b.

It would be more honest to say Shanghai won the tournament, but yeah.
It helps a lot when the other person in the finals plays the worst way possible in a sketchy matchup.

I don't know lots about Alice, but first thing you should look into is your oki, imo. You really often go for a "I'm just going away throwing some bullets, feel free to graze them", and I just have to super jump when waking up to get out. Try to mix bullets with f.5A or 6A, or something like that, when I'm waking up, esp. in the corner, so that I can't just always mindlessly high jump and escape.

Good games, Mungay, haven't seen you around in a while.

I just started practising with Aya yesterday, so I don't have the hang on her combos yet, but so far I like how she plays. Although her damage output is low, she makes up for that by how easy it is to pull off small combos from pretty much any hit.

I tried playing with Yuyuko as well, but I'll need to practise my timings a bit more, especially with that 623 reversal alt.

Interestingly, I had most trouble against your Komachi when playing with Youmu, even though she's been my main for a long time. I really need to practise inputting that 623 better, since it seems to be the best defense against your attacks.

Well, thanks for the games. It's been a while since I've had this much fun.

Great games, Idler. Been a while since I burned my thumb this bad.

It seems that I'm unable to get rid of some of my bad habits, 6DA Spirit Sign "Abundant Floating Spirits" against your Youmu, for example,
and even though I told myself "don't attack him with j.2A while he's sitting in the corner" I still did, and had to eat your 623 because of it (most of the time).

I'm still only good with Komachi, and somewhat decent with Meiling China, but I'll try to get better with Cirno and Tenshi until the next time though.

Anyway, looking forward to fighting you again, as always.
