Why isn't Meiling written as 美玲, but as 美鈴? 美玲 makes more sense to me.

>> No.5190608

Because ZUN isn't Chinese, I guess?

>> No.5190616

鈴 = traditional chinese
玲 = simplified chinese

美玲 isn't Japanese either, or am I misinterpreting you?

>> No.5190623

>>5190617
I meant 美鈴*

>>5190616
玲 is used in both trad and simplified.

I'm just guessing. My only knowledge of either language is an online dictionary.

I assumed by your complaint that ZUN made a mistake in choosing characters that would sound odd from a Chinese standpoint.

>> No.5190627

A person can only be expected to make mistakes when working in a language they do not speak.

You probably mixed up 铃 and 玲. The simplified for 鈴 is 铃, not 玲.

I suppose.
She's my favourite Touhou regardless of the spelling.

Do you speak Japanese or Chinese natively?

I know Mandarin.

No, I don't. That's why I'm asking, there could've been a reason behind it.

Maybe ZUN likes ascribing meanings to names?

There is meaning in the things he does, you just have to be drunk to see it.

Oh. Well I guess that makes sense, then.
Whatever.
Do what you want.

Well, it was already explained in the thread. ZUN just isn't Chinese.

When Meiling appears in EoSD, and during some of her moves, a ringing sound is made.
That sound could be a bell (鈴)

>> No.5190912

>>5190853
Hm, that might be it.
Oh that cryptic ZUN.
