Yeah, but they'll probably think you're a tourist that wandered in or at the very least a massive scrub. If you can show that you're actually proficient at the game and have a desire to learn/spend time at the arcade, the local players can be really helpful.

No, they have guards that stand outside with huge batons with gene-scanners and only allow the purest race to pass.

NAH B NAH THEM DELINQUENTS WILL MESS WITH YOU AND TAKE YA MONEY AND DROP YA ASS

Best to stay home, locked inside, where the outside world can't hurt you.

I don't want to play at the japanese arcades. I play at the local arcades.

No Freddie?

>> No.5187506

No. They lack cents.

>> No.5187508

Yes. Foreigners are widely accepted in arcades. Also if you are going to stay and plan on playing more in an arcade just present plushies you won in claw machines to random highschool girls. They love it. You might get bonus as well.

>> No.5187517

Of course they can. What, you think Japan is an apartheid state?

with all the japan = xenophobic country talk going on, I'm just making sure. Friends who went to Japan and came back confirms it. (A friend, not japanese but has decieving looks, was forced out of the place she was staying in when the owner found out she's gaijin) Also I've heard there are cafes where gaijins aren't allowed / are harassed, but that's another topic (or if you want, we could turn this into what places can gaijins go/what things can gaijins do at japan )

Your friends are either unlucky or fucking with you. I lived there for a year and shit isn't nearly as bad as the internet leads you to believe.

You've got racists in every country. It's true that the Japanese are more xenophobic than some western countries but /jp/ makes it all seem so much worse than it really is.

might be. But how about working there? I was also told they like foreign exchange students, because they know they'll come back to where they came from, but not foreigners joining JP workforce

Finding housing and being accepted in arcades are totally different issues.
The fightan gaem players in Japan pretty much realize that they're a small niche of Otaku, and they play for a lot of the same reasons as American players: competition, community, etc.

The big difference between the scene stateside and the scene in Japan is that the Japanese want to bring people in and want to teach players how to get better and advance the level of competition, which is one of the reasons they fuck us in the ass at virtually everything other than Marvel.

If you show up and aren't a disgusting weeaboo or a huge tool, they'll be cool.

No, their circumstances were just completely different from yours. Even the people who downplay the xenophobia in Japan will tell you that housing is notoriously difficult for good reason, which it is in pretty much any civilized country if you're not a citizen. It's just that much harder in Japan.

I'm not surprised if your friend got kicked out by her landlord/landlady for not disclosing or notifying them that she was a foreigner. The paperwork, proceedings, and customs involved in getting a place are all different if you're a foreigner.
