Hello /jp/. I was wondering what OS the otaku of 4chan use. I am a GNU/Linux user and I was wondering how many of you use this wonderful system. Do you moe-fy your systems?

I'm your average know-jack-shit-about-computers-ma'am user. I use the OS that came prepackaged with my pc: runs eroge, runs old-to-middle-aged games, writes kanji, good enough for me.
I'm interested in Linux, but don't think it's worth the hassle of researching it and risking fucking up, for what I use my pc for anyways.

Yes, I enjoy my job... yet I've always found these linux nerds stupid. Why are they using the wrong OS for the wrong purpose when there are better alternatives available?

If you fail with Windows, you will fail harder with Linux.

If you know how to use Windows, there's no reason to move to Linux.

OSX ... what should I say? Apple's marketing department knows how to sell all kinds of shit to idiots, that goes for all apple products.

I run Linux (as gay as I am for RMS there's no point in calling it GNU/Linux except to troll). I have for several years now. It's, for the most part, ready for desktop use. I've set up installs of debian and mint for people I know who are computer illiterate (IE: think that emails are dependent on their computers instead of servers and can't sometimes set their own backgrounds) and for their simple needs Linux is fine. Take that as you will, it's saved me headaches from having to deal with spyware and viruses. Yeah, not all drivers are there yet, and plenty of hardware doesn't work with minimal fuss, but a lot of the mainstream stuff does work and quite well.

I haven't moefied my desktop very well, as it's got a minimalist look (my background image is a touhou and that's it). I'm happy with what I run, I can get all my /jp/ related stuff done with little fuss (touhou runs well with wine and most vns work - those that don't I use a virtual machine). It's not for everyone and those that grew up using MS products exclusively might have a bit of a hard time adjusting if they ever decide to try it out. With all the wikis, bbs and whatever dedicated to linux and specific distros getting help is easy and anyone who wants to try it out should go ahead.
