Glad to see you are not dead yet. I think my Alice was around the level of your Suwako and Sakuya so decided to use her, she is also one of the characters which I enjoy playing with the most. Suwako really needs some practice to be useful but Sakuya is just easymode. Delayed bullets everywhere, oh god. No matter where I block against her, I'll be forced into a corner in no time. Thanks for hosting

It's just that Suwako has no chance against a bullet heavy character like Patchouli unless you know exactly how her graze works. (and I don't she's good even then)

GGs, and sorry about that last match, my special-fly-out-of-the-screen-ad-vitam-aeternam-zzz tactic is kinda lame.
I'm thinking of using that alt. 22 of yours. I never use the def. 22, except for the 6C 22C, and it seems great for zoning and oki, at high levels it must definitely be better than 2/5C.

That was getting way too silly... GGs. You always manage to amuse me, ane way or another.

I tried out some spellcards to cancel to after you blocked my third 214... The clones are out of question, and that cherry blossom card seems to be a bit of a waste, since you can easily get out of it... Still, it's probably the safest choice, if I want to avoid your combo.

I've personally found that 22 alt very good for various sitautions, definitely more useful than default. I used it a couple of times to drain your spirit, but that's not really a good idea after your opponent learns to escape between 6C and 22.
I've yet to really try out the other alt, which I hear is a very good choice too, especially since it can be used in air.

Also, thanks for reminding me why I absolutely detest playing against Remilia.

I actually have shit to do that I'm getting paid for and put it off until now, but I'll host again once I finish my dinner.

The way I see it, the only way I can get better is to get curbstomped until I learn what's wrong with a) my playstyle; i already know I'm way too aggressive...and b) my controller; can't pull off specials for shit.

It's alright, Hisoutensoku is frustrating as hell anyway. I'm not that good myself, but playing against people who are at a higher skill level is really useful for learning combos.
As for improvement, you might want to go on the defensive side a little more. You let your guard down a lot and it's pretty easy to sneak in combos. You seem to know the inputs and know what attack is appropriate for each situation. Really, blocking is the only thing you need to improve on.

Alright, GGs, not bad for a first-timer.

Stepping into netplay is always hard at first, since the bot isn't really much of a practise partner. I had the advantage of being here when even SWR was relatively new, so most people were at my level. Even then, I still lose here often, since I'm generally bad at fighting games.

Most of the things you'll need to know you'll learn only from netplay, either playing yourself or spectating someone else.

Also,
>Like that suicide marisa it was intentional
Er, what?

>> No.5143936

>>5143857

Well, yes and no. If you noticed, I used a lot of useless shots simply because the imputs for sliding forward/back/whatever wasn't registering and I kept throwing out standard shots which didn't do anything. That's the controller's fault. A couple times with Reimu I meant to use that really annoying vanishing kick thing but would either throw a regular shot or create a border.

As for mine...yeah. I rush in with standard melee WAY too much, but I still can't get the feel of defensive stuff and when opportunities to counter appear.

Is 192.168.1.5 the local IP of your computer?

Make sure the port 10800 is UDP forwarded, since most games and programs use TCP so it's often a default choice for protocol. Now, I'm not familiar with your router so I don't know how to do that.

Also, make sure you ISP is not blocking your ports. If they are, then there's usually not much you can do.

Firewalls shouldn't be a problem, since you already can join without problems.

GGs, I've got some work to do.
The throw mix-ups, they do nothing! I should at least refrain from 623[B]'ing you if have not blocked at least one or two 4A's, because else the throw knocks you down midscreen, and I can't continue the pressure reliably. I'm still not sure if it's worth it compared to the def. 623, but some tick throws to put the opponent on his edge is always fun.
I tried using the def. 214 more, but it seems that [7] is a reliable escape mechanism against it. Really, only maybe an instant 3rd hit can refrain the opponent from jumping between the 2nd and 3rd hit, as it's air-blockable.
Also, that 4-cards reversal seems more terrible everyday. I had time to cancel Reisen's B bullets in reaction to it.

That was the first time I've seen someone using that grab alt... I've tried it a couple of times but decided to stick with the default 623, even if I never remember to input it when I need it.

I think I'll stick with my previous alt 22, I tried the bullet one but didn't like it.

your youmu is pretty good! i was really feeling the pressure there, so that's a great start. alright, i don't know if you're anal about being given advice or not, but here's one thing that you badly need to work into youmu's game -- her default 214. it's amazing for strings, can be staggered, is fast as hell, only the 3rd hit is punishable and it stops jump outs and graze attempts. make your opponent unsure if you're going to use 214 or b bullets and they'll definitely respect you more in the corner.

>only the 3rd hit is punishable
Actually, all of the hits are punishable if the opponent blocks them right, however, the opponent must guess whether you'll continue with another hit if they decide to attack, and if they guess wrong they're in for a lot of damage. Most players don't take that risk, but if you use it predictably, for example always stop after the second hit, you can be punished. The trick is to always keep your opponent wondering if you'll continue with another 214 or not, but it's always a gamble.

All of the hits can be canceled into spellcards though, so a careless opponent who thinks blocking the third hit is a free combo for them might be in for a surprise.

So does anyone have some tips for beating an acquaintence who does Fireball Spam on patchy until he gets the 5 rank card he needs? (Okay, it's MOSTLY fireball, but you get what I mean.) He's annoying to get to on any character especially when he gets up in the air and rains down fire and I mostly have to take it because if I try to reach I'll get punished, or can't reach.

>> No.5152901

Anti air is very scarce in this game. Try Remi with her wall hop attack, Marisa and her master spark card that aims up, Reisen and her eyebeam that shoots in the air, placing Alice dolls into the air. Or you can just spam Yuyukos sperm ghosts and butterflies.

>> No.5152965

Yeah, little to no anti-air is what annoys me. I forget, can Remi's wall hop graze those bullets at all? How large is Reisen's startup time on that laser (I'll most likely either screw it up or get hit by fireballs, the line of water droplets, or swoooords), and Yuyuko I need to work on. I was beating him a bit with meiling of all things til he started pulling crap like flying up high and fireballing. I still don't have down Alice and Marisa's seems like it's a one time deal. I'm sure sometimes I could manage a rank 1/2 scarlet cannon if I get the cards as well. I really need to get a controller.

Haha! Great games as usual E-MAN! I loved the new combos and tricks you were pulling with Komachi, and I tried copying your guard crush setup with mixed success. That one deck of yours with the vortex/vaccuum scythes and edge sliders is extremely deadly. I couldn't set up bullets from afar or else eat those sliders and up close I'd get punished for grazing at both short and mid distances. The deck with the slowing fields was also pretty funny to play against. I havn't been playing much SWR lately due to the Starcraft 2 beta as well as a game programming project, so it was nice to play you again.

The vacuum and slowing fields were experiments to keep me from accidentally teleporting when I j2D 2A, have yet to get a great use for them. Lastly, I was trying to land the 66A > Short Life combo a few of those matches, but it's futile trying to make a Rabbit stand still LOL.

Unfortunatley, i don't know of any character specific ways to deal with Yuyuko, but i can give general advice.

Don't let her get her 214 Butterflies covering the field, these are her main source of bullet cover.
If you see she has a reversal card in the card window, don't rush in. Try and bait the card if you can as Yuyuko is wide open after the declare.

>> No.5159676

You need the green cross skill and the pink dash skill or you cannot win. Tasofro left the balancing to the players by giving you a bunch of skills and 4 decks. You have to make an 'anti-yuyuko' deck.

I didn't spectate the fight but as Youmu, I get like half of my damage against Yuyuko from 623c into spellcard combos. You don't even have to guess because a lot of her bullets take a while to come out.
Also try to see where her bullets will go and how much of it she can actually trap you in. It's not an easy matchup, she can basically spam all day and doesn't have to fear your bullets but it's not the worst either.

Good games, The Idler! I actually got to go through all of the characters I try to play as, haha.
Still lots to learn, though, I see. Which is good, really!

GGs, pretty close matches. I had the chance to mess around with some of the characters I normally never use, which you might have noticed from my complete inability to come up with any combo besides Dial-A.

I tried out various things with Youmu when playing against your Yuyuko. As I expected, Heart Carving Cut alt. was pretty useless, in my hands at least, so I'll stick with my default 214.

Was expecting to play Su who I get an uncannily decent connection with, but a pond battle is a pond battle. Anyway, good playing you again, but I expected your Youmu/Reisen team to be a bit more... vicious. Did you stop playing for a while?

>> No.5165935

Erm, no. I started to play Youmu about 2-3 weeks ago so maybe there are things that flew over my head. Any advice?

>> No.5165957

>>5165935
You really want advice from someone whose ass you just kicked? LOL! I don't have any GOOD Youmu advice to give, just basic strats that you already have the hang of. It's better you try catch a match Rabbit-Box or Johan here on /jp/, or talk to one of the many Youmu aces in the IRC.

Not a rage quit, my mom came to my house to bug me. Won't complain about lag spikes killing a few of my attacks, but goddamn, your SCs were totally against me! Nicely planned, BTW. Crazy ass suns, whiff attacks leading to snakes, and that one friggin time I stared at a nuclear explosion.... What I find strange is your heavy Lv. 4-5 uses, but your Iku is Lv.1s only. Anyway, thanks for the matches.

>> No.5166536

Herp, I get that a lot, I think my router is dying or something, I used to be able to host properly, suns are cool like that, well I have my "normal" okuu decks with lv 1s and all that, but hey, nuclear explosions or 5k combos, i'd rather have something that looks pretty.

Why do Street Fighter players bash every single fighting game that isn't Street Fighter? I guess they can't handle anything other than 20 year old mechanics. That's why the same majority couldn't handle Third Strike either.

Seriously, it's not just Hisoutensoku threads. In BlazBlue, Guilty Gear or KoF threads, SF players will come in saying the same bullshit. Same with any of the 3D fighters like Tekken or Soul Calibur.

Some people want something different from their fighting games, deal with it.
