this looks like a good place to mention the fact that loli is pronounced "low-lee" and not "lol-ee"

I think that's debatable. Yes the world loli comes from "Lolita", which sounds like low-lee, but there are also quite a large number of people who pronounce it like the "loli" in "lolipop". So you could say that, either, both pronunciations are correct, or that one of them is an accent.

Japanese pronunciation is really straightforward, how can you have problems with it?

I don't think it should be considered making a language when it's just using Japanese words in English speech because we're weeaboos. I'm not really sure if the same principles still apply. If they do then all the other terrible butcherings of Japanese words by weeaboos should also be considered correct pronunciations.

>"Lolita", which sounds like low-lee
No it doesn't. Lolita isn't an English word, the o isn't long, it's short. So more like lah-lee-taa.

Reminds me of a pronunciation thread on /v/. People were pissed off when I claimed that Yoshi is supposed to be pronounced the way Yoshi him-/her-/itself pronounces it.
"NO IT'S YOESHEE" "HAVEN'T YOU SEEN THE TURTLES MOVIE WITH A GUY NAMED YOSHIMITSU" etc.

It was pretty fun.

Things start to seem right, then it becomes proper.
Also, more people pronounce it low-lee than law-lee and it fits with the etymology.

>Things start to seem right
That's not even definition of anything.

>and it fits with the etymology
facepalm.jpg
Dumbest shit I've read all day. Law-lee fits the ethymology as well, since some people pronounce it that way. Why is that? Because ethymology isn't about things fitting with eachother, it's merely an observation of a development. You don't decide on the ethymology, ethymology is actual history. And it's not strange either, seeing how loli is popular in Japan and pronounced ロリ. Interest in loli these days is heavily influenced by said culture, thus the pronounciation in English is affected.

Even though I agree that law-lee is not THE proper pronunciation yet, I'd say it's an acceptable pronunciation and will be proper not too long from now.
