Why don't you go with her? It's not much money aside from the actual flight. Japan is expensive to live in, but trust me you can visit and not have to spend a lot of money as a tourist.

I slept in a capsule hotel when I went to Tokyo. 8 Canadian dollars a night, fuck yeah.
