I have never posted on this board. I usually hang out at /g/. Lately, though, I've been watching a lot of anime, and I find myself wondering if I would buy figures and doujinshi. I usually thought that these things were a little to hardcore, but now I think I'm becoming otaku. Did this happen to you guys? Will I be okay? Can I be your friend?

tl:dr
I accept the fact that I might be otaku, and I wish to do it right.

everyone (mostly) on /jp/ is going to tell you to play VN's first, if not to GTFO entirely.

for the most part your a /a/ level otaku.

I say you should do what you think is right.

Just kidding.

>>5052754
Yeah, I'm afraid of becoming a little too hardcore. How do you hide your things. All I have now is some MGs and one PG so it's not that bad, but what if I get other shit?

>> No.5052779

Have fun with it. If you do what feels natural, you'll be able to explore the hardcore stuff open-mindedly without crossing any boundaries you don't want to cross.

Develop some more, I guess. Lurk here.

We have ways, and if you don't learn them, you'll get torn apart.

What if my girlfriend sees them? I can't have eroge lying around!

>> No.5052821

You must take it easy.

Then you must do nothing but sit at the computer reading VNs.

If all goes well, after a few months you will know what to do next yourself.

>but now I think I'm becoming otaku.

One does not just become 'otaku' on a whim. Otaku doesn't mean what you think it means.

You have three options.

1.Lurk more
2.Go back to Gaia
3.Go back to Animesuki.

I know what you mean. I went from not watching any /jp/ related shit, to playing eroge for hours on end. I didn't try, it just sort of happened.

Things you should know before browsing /jp/-
1.Never admit to being normal in any way
(if you have a girlfriend we don't want to hear about it!)
2.Understand that the sage function is not an insult
3.Know enough about Touhou that you understand what we're talking about
4.You should at least play the obvious VNs like Umineko, Type Moon shit, Rance (although that's more of a game), YMK, Saya no Uta, Ever17, etc. More than this would be preferable.
5.Make all posts with correct spelling and grammar.
6.Don't get angry if someone insults you. That's just how we do things.

That's actually a good thing. People who can't follow that rule don't belong here, and people who can't follow that rule will leave out of rage.
