Natural-born magicians are a type youkai. In addition to Alice, Patchouli and possibly Yuka are also this kind of youkai.

Windows Alice is a "fake". A magician doll fanatic youkai who's madly in love (platonically, of course), with Marisa Kirisame.

PC 98 Alice is still in hiding, like a snake, waiting for the time to strike back. She was created by Shinki, so she has all the time in the world to wait.

There is a continuity conflict going on here.

From the PC-98 games, Alice is a little girl born a youkai, daughter of Shinki, natural magic-user.

From the Windows games, Alice is a natural-born magic user (who may or may not have been born a youkai, depending on whether or not Akyu's information is accurate) but doesn't seem to have the old Makai connection.

Yet, the Windows games make reference to events that occurred in the PC-98 games.


Conclusion: ZUN is too beered-up to get his continuity straight.

PCB: She is a versatile magician, that has no specific strong or weak point in any area. If you ask me, she is similar to Marisa, or rather I'd say a youkai version of Marisa.

IaMP: A natural born magician. While her appearance is almost identical to humans, she is not one. She is a kind of so called humanoid youkai.

IN: She has many similarities to Marisa, namely living in the Forest of Magic, being a magician and a collectomaniac. However, they have an absolute difference in that Alice is a natural-born magician while Marisa is a human.

IN: The greatest difference between Alice and Marisa is that Marisa was born human and trained to be a magician whereas Alice was born a magician.


As you can see, being a natural born magicians means that you are not human.
