Hey /jp/, I got a Japanese question for you speakers of the glorious Nippon language. I have a friend learning Japanese via Rosetta Stone and today he asked me what "kyoshi" means. He says its used interchangeably with "sensei". Any ideas?

"kyoshi" means "pleasure", also is interchargable with "inusaido"

Maido deleted the Shiseiseki thread. He's awake, just not giving a fuck.

It's not trolling if we just don't know where else to ask and picked the closest board. But thanks for playing the elitistjerks game.

The trolling came from the 'glorious Nippon language' that came in combination with the implication that anyone actually uses Rosetta Stone to learn Japanese.

教師 きょうし kyoushi is another word for teacher. However it's usually only used when referring to yourself, a family member, or a friend as it is more modest than sensei. in other words when you go to class you go learn from your sensei. If you're teaching someone something you refer to yourself as their kyoushi, calling yourself a sensei would make you sound like you are full of yourself.

And if you made it after this, you ran right into rosetta stone followed by a question a quick dictionary lookup could solve
