Hell /jp/, why are ALL of Marisa's types so awful in SA? This game is going to be a hell since I don't like reimu at all.

What do you mean? Patchy and Alice are easily the 2nd and 3rd best shot types, respectively. Hell, theoretically, Alice has the highest score potential in the game. If not for Yukarihax, Marisa would be stomping all over Reimu.

Patchy version has a nice variety of attacks and Alice has some great firepower. Nitori can be used for power whoring if you constantly in fear of being hit

All Marisa's shot types are playable, I did my 1CC with Nitori and it was fine. The shot-type differences only go full retard when you're playing for score, and given that you pick shot types based on the 'characters' and how many bombs you can spam, that's not going to be an issue.

Marisa's shot types don't suck. It's Marisa herself that sucks since she has a larger hitbox which means Satori and Utsuho will rape you on Lunatic.

For survival runs, Patchouli team isn't hands down the best, but it's very balanced. It doesn't have the awkward aiming issues as with the Reimu and Aya combo, can have decent damage output.

It doesn't have 8 bombs like the Alice team, but really, if you need 8 bombs for a survival you should probably be focusing on other things like learning to stream better. I find SA, like MoF, is typically better to not bomb during survival runs as the loss of power can really drag out certain spellcards.

As for actual advantages, rather than lack of disadvantages, the multiple shot types are amazing and once you're used to switching between them it really isn't a bother. For general purposes you'll be using the highly focused one and the large spread, but the yellow one that fires in a stacked I-beam shape can be useful on certain spellcards (I'm thinking of you, Malice Sign "Midnight Anathema Ritual"). Generally the extreme wide angle one lacks the coverage in between the 3 streams to actually hit anything and the reverse fire one would usually be used in situations where the yellow one works better anyway. Also, if you do find that you need to bomb, and you happen to be near the target, this team's bomb can do major damage.

Alice really is a solid choice, too, but I find that I don't like the ability to rely on bombs as it can develop poor habits for learning patterns, and I'm disappointed that her laser options don't pierce like Marisa's lasers usually do so I avoid her. Nitori's not terrible, she just plays more like the old magic missile Marisa. Low-damage bomb (does it even damage enemies in SA? I can't remember) with high-damage, highly-focused frontal options.

If you played Akuu Gallet/Air Gallet, the Hunter-seeker powerup in the game is this chara combo. It really, really is a total bitch to use against the bullet swarms, and is best used when you manage to lock the option's shots to go upper right or upper left, and occassionally forward.
