I'm watching this documentary about male hosts in japan.

It's about "host boys" working in Osaka. These guys are basically male geishas who entertain women in clubs, manipulating them into spending stupefying amounts of money. I remember one woman saying that she's dropped $15K in a month, or something ridiculous like that. The host boys play all kinds of mind games with the women, tricking them into falling in love -- they're emotional prostitutes. And the kicker is that most of their female clients are actual prostitutes, who should know how the game works and still keep coming back. Everyone in this film is totally broken in one way or another, but it's fascinating.

Its about a very eccentric couple scraping by in Japan living from working multiple part time jobs. The whole thing is documented by an English man who happens to befriend the main character.

Its really fascinating to me because he really is able to gain access to some very personal situations. I could watch stories like that every week.

This movie will make you hate Japan. If you don't know much about japan and simply get into anything made in an "anime style", watching this could be educational for you.

I watched this a while ago.

I blame the hosts for being spineless fucks. They say they can't get out of their situation, but they can at any time. No one is stopping them but themselves. So what if they're homeless? It's better than killing your fucking liver and pretending to love woman you hate.

I've read more extensively about Japanese history and culture than most people. This documentary just happens to capture something that's been awful about them ever since their industrial revolution.
