On the other hand, BB has no charge characters, and much smaller movesets, resulting in a lot less playstyle variety per character, which is a damn shame.

What exactly was bad and retarded complicated about the Guilty Gear controls and how did BlazBlue improve on it? Removed two buttons and added a new gimmick button? Even if you consider this an improvement it doesn't highlight anything flawed about GGXXAC's controls.

Yeah, you had to get FRC timing down for some characters (though the ones for making moves safe, not extend combos, are really lax). It didn't have advanced input, but it had negative edge so as far as I'm concerned that's the same.

The engine wasn't really streamlined. In GG you had a much easier to understand guard bar and could never be guard crushed, you didn't take extra damage from negative penalty and bursting had no negative effects.

And combo lengths really weren't anything different than BlazBlue. In fact I'd say they were often smaller.

Hence, why I think you don't really know why people don't like GG. It's not any of that stuff, it's percisely for the reasons your downplaying: mind-games, okizeme, mix-ups. All characters had insane options and if you didn't know them you were fucked. This means big entry barrier, but it doesn't mean BlazBlue "fixed" it by making the characters one-trick ponies instead.
