You didn't resize them to the right aspect ratio. That's why they look so small and fat on your screenshot. Compare it with the previous PS2 graphics patch (that were made correctly), it should be obvious.
PS2 native AR is 640x448, you need to stretch sprites / backgrounds accordingly so it fits PC's 640x480. And for god's sake don't do it with paint /any similar crap or they'll end up all blurry.

With regards to this do we have any idea how they were resized previously? the sprites from the old patches are
in 640x480 bmp files but the sprites themselves dont seem to have been upscaled as much, there's a load of wasted transparency which is why I suspect the other patches were much larger. Upscaling the original PS2 sprites to 640x480 of course makes them far too large; they're originally only 208x397.

So at present I can re-size the sprites up so their the correct size, however the aspect ratio is still slightly off. I've been using imagemagick to batch re-size them as suggested by whoever compiled the bgi tools, but I'm not really proficient enough at it to fix the aspect ratio and I don't really have any intention on going through every sprite manually just to stretch it by 32 pixels. I'm out of time to work on this but everything should now be in the correct format, aspect ratio etc. All that needs to be done is is picking out the relevant sprites and renaming them. This has all the sprites from the PS2 port so this should be future proof for the next chapters. Just in case I've included the batch file to resize them. In theory this could be used to resize the backgrounds too, although you'll also need to run alphaconv.exe from the BGI tools on them after.

protip:open a command window in a folder with the old patch and type "ren *. *.bmp" then compare those with the sprites in here, remembering to remove the .bmp extensions when you're done.

Now with proper aspect ratio and (hopefully) no missing sprites. I've replaced the CG of Rena crying. I've also just noticed the close ups of the eyes probably shouldn't have a transparent background but I think there's a gap so it's better like this anyway unless someone wants to edit them. Also the PS2 version only has one sprite of the eyes for each character whereas the original/mangagamers release has a flipped and smaller versions. I've just used the one sprite for these being lazy, not that it's a noticeable problem or anything. Again, post if there are any crashes or instances of the original sprite, In which case I've probably named something wrong.

Pretty sure that's what people were saying last thread. What I remember is that unlike the first release where they simply overwrote certain tracks with tracks that already existed (increasing the game size for no reason, but leaving it in a state where it could be fixed), the Kai games have condensed it down to only what they needed for their replaced tracks, so it's not possible to fix all of them, only some of them.

As with previous patches, now all backgrounds have been replaced when the PS2 version does not have an equivalent, but if you happen to notice anything out of place make a post.
Also I've identified a few issues with the sprites such a missing Rena and a missing Mion and also I've noticed there's at least one sprite which seems to have escaped the aspect ratio change somehow so I'm fixing these now.

I've seen this, and two other errors I remember, since sprite patch V2:
One of Rika's normal "happy" sprites is swapped with the cat ears/tail one.
And one of the Teppei sprites has some extra detached hair menacingly floating above his head.

guy working on the sprite patch here. I have most errors under control, thanks for the reports. It seems all or most of Mions sprites weren't re-sized for some reason so that may take some time but no biggy. I have got a slight issue with the bug reported by >>4981281 It seems the error occurred when it was being extracted from the PS2 .iso. So basically I'm looking for someone who downloaded the PS2 version in the last thread to re-extract the third teppei sprite, preferably in .png You can use the tool in http://www.box.net/shared/ljh7gxrquv to do this. I'll see if there are easier alternatives in the meantime.

>> No.5001368

yep manga gamer used a night time background here despite the ones immediately after being day time. I'm not sure if this is a fuckup by them or whether this is a rare case of the PS2 version having greater variation in backgrounds, but it seems the daytime version fits better so I'll leave it at that

Also an afterthought on the BG of keiichis front door; when it appears further on, is it supposed to be day, or night? I haven't gotten far through this myself yet for various reasons.

thanks. That definitely looks like it's supposed to be night. The PS2 version has a day and night available but manga gamers release only has one version for the whole chapter. Of course, not having played the original japanese version I can't be sure that only has one version as well though.

ah no, those are the PS2 ones I used to make these patches, I was talking about the original PC releases. It's not terribly important and if manga gamer really is leaving out backgrounds it wouldn't be easily fixable for the same reason the music can't be fixed properly
