Ive been listening to Japanese for a long time and i have listened to a whole lot of Miku. I got the opportunity to hear Sweet Ann a while back and i thought it was horrible. It didnt sound right and thats disregarding the ugly voice they went with.

Does Miku sound odd in the same way to Japanese as Sweet Ann did to me?

I'm not Japanese, but I can say that English is much harder to make sound "right" with a Vocaloid than Japanese. Japanese only has a small library of syllables that the entire language uses, while English has a fuckload. Obviously Vocaloids have that robotic tone to them no matter what (some songs do good in making them sound like real people though) but they don't butcher Japanese like English is butchered up.

Kinda one of the reasons why they're more popular there than they would ever be here. They sound like shit in English because they can't pronounce it right. Also, Sweet Ann's voice is pretty bad.

They never quite get the box art right on the English Vocaloids.

They just need to give up marketing to the anime fan Vocaloid crowd all together. Its just too small and not productive enough. They should aim for a wider audience and forget the anime connections, rather than trying to hang on to a tiny sub-fandom.
