I don't see why anyone would do this. The Touhou games are really very average if not downright mediocre as far as shmups go. As much as so-called primaries will hate me for saying it, the frilly dresses and little girls ARE why Touhou is so popular. If it was just the games, there's a hundred better shooters. No need to play touhou if that's what you're after.

I learned about touhou from 4chan's /f/.
At first I thought it's just some anime riding on fanservice, so I didn't give a fuck about it.
But when I learned that it's actually a fuckhard video game (I'm a hardcore gamer who plays hardocore games for hardcore gamers, such as myself) my interest in touhou skyrocketed.
I'm mostly in it for the STGs, but I do some secondary stuff like reading doujins, playing fanmade games and visiting /jp/.

My first exposure to Touhou was the games. Played IN and PoFV for a time, then put it away. (It was all in jap anyways, didn't know what it was). Next was some time later through Danbooru when their wiki said that Touhou = loli. Eventually found out that the pics and those games I played were from the same thing.

Though the secondary is where all the fun is at, except for the fighting games.

Anyway, I'm a secondary and I don't give a shit.
I was aware about Touhou since I saw some music videos, but the thing that made me a fan was downloading some random doujin from solelo.
Turned out to be good so I downloaded like 6 GB of doujins and read trough them. Then started browsing touhou tag on Danbooru, downloaded some music, and only after that started playing games. I enjoy them, but suck horribly - I keep playing though.
