The universe of Code Geass is set in an alternate timeline where Washington was defeated in the Independence War, Napoleon invaded all of Europe, the British royal family was exiled in America and huge robots run on an element that's not even on our periodic table. AND YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT CHESS?

>> No.4911571

I never got why mr.fantastic didn't just take his king using the pawn instead of getting caught in a dilemma over whether to use his own king or not.

YES. I DO.
CHESS IS SERIOUS SHIT, DUDE.

No, because it's extremely well written.

>> No.4911622

He makes a point of moving his king on the first move. Whatever they're playing, it's not chess.

That conjecture is about as valid as saying that the white pieces symbolise life and that people can survive being stabbed with swords.

>> No.4911642

>>4911632
You would dismiss it as "lol, illegal" no matter how evidenced it was. When clearly it's symbolic. You would probably complain if a stupid character said something in poor Japanese, and the subs in turn showed poor English, calling it the subber's error.

>implying different moves are legal in blitz chess

>> No.4911647

Jesus fucking Christ, Code Geass is alternate history. What makes you think that all the massive changes in major historical events didn't have repercussions on secondary things like Chess rules?

>> No.4911650

>>4911642
I'd say it's either animator idiocy or a sign that our two worlds are completely different, as shown by the fact that they play a universal game differently.
Again, conjecture that's worthless in any argument.

>> No.4911662

>>4911647

Because chess rules were established before the split in history that makes the worlds different. It would probably be illegal either way.

No matter what, this is /a/ bullshit that shouldn't be posted here.

>> No.4911666

>>4911647
why call it chess if it's not even fucking chess?
that's like calling punto banco as baccarat.

>> No.4911672

>>4911647
That sure is a simpler explanation than that nobody involved with the scene knew the rules.

>> No.4911669

In Haruhi season 2 there's also a scene where Kyon and Itsuki play chess and they didn't even manage to keep the colors the two are playing consistent during the like 2 minutes the scene lasts. It's like you can't animate a game of chess without major fuckups for some reason.

>> No.4911679

>>4911662
No, not at all. The split happens when the British isles manage to resist Roman invasion, or probably earlier still.

>> No.4911695

>>4911650
Excepting speed chess, it's not a legal move, the animators know it's not a legal move, and the characters know it's an illegal move. It's a threat that when the heads of our two factions meet that Zero will lose, a threat that the Empire is willing to break 'rules of war' to win, and an attempt to make Zero lose his composure.

Fuck yeah, Code Geass. It's still in my opinion one of the most entertaining series from 2007-2008. I miss that show. Those sundays when I watched Macross Frontier and then Code Geass R2 in a row are long gone...

I know you're trolling, but it needs to be said. Why don't you go have fun browsing /a/ right now?

Nah, actually I've been on /jp/ since Code Geass R2 ended before I was in /a/ since Gurren Lagann ended.
