Hi, I'm having some troubles with the English patched version of the sixth Touhou game - Embodiment of scarlet Devil.

After patching and running the english .exe, the game plays at a ridiculous frame rate (1410fps).

Upon googling the matter i found two ways to fix it. The first was to run the english "custom.exe" and set check the box to force fps to 60 - which didn't work.

The other was to download a dual-core hothix from microsoft, something which has already been implemented in WXPSP3 (the thread was from 2005).

So currently I'm stumbling in the dark. Turning on V-sync does not work, and it's only the english version running at a high fps - the japanese one works flawlessly.

Anyone got a solution to this problem?

Thanks for your time

Note: /v/ failed me and sent me here.

I actually tried - and being as bad as I am at Touhou, I burned every bomb before I got to the boss of the second stage.

Becuase I can stay away from /jp/ if you'd like. Your help would be much appreciated.

Why even bother when you got a working version? You interested in the story?

I don't know. Just play with the Japanese version and read the story on touhou.wikia.com instead. Or just play the Japanese version. You're not missing much.

because /jp/ is so much better right? get off your pedestal, this place is no different than /v/ or /b/. to be honest, considering how rude people are to people asking innocent questions politely, I'd say it's even worse.

Got the same question in my /v/ thread, so I'll just paste my reply from there.

Not really, I just got into the process of patching all the games because I wanted to know what the different stats on the characters were - and after patching the first one I decided to patch the rest.

In any case, have you completely removed it from your system, including registry for good measure, then downloaded it again?
Do that, but don't use the english patch, just run the Japanese version and see how it works. It the FPS is fine in JAP, then it's a patch problem, possibly a corrupt download of it.

Chances are, though, it's a problem with your computer. If you have dual-core, then your computer is probably using both to run the game, causing the insane speeds. You'll have to find some way of using only one for the game. Don't know how off the top of my head. Use google.

Anyway, completely remove the game from your system first, before you mess around with your processors. It may be as easy as a corrupt download of something, but I doubt it.

After patching the original japanese exe remains, and the game functions properly when running the original exe.

After looking around about the dual-core I found out that this shouldn't be a problem - as SP3 for Windows XP had the hotfix implemented. There could of course be some exceptions regarding certain programs.

I'll try re- downloading, installing and patching tgameagain in order to see if the issue persists.

I had this problem too, are you using an nvidia card? I do not specifically remember which setting fixes it just move the graphics quality slider all the way to performance. That fixed the problem for me at least

I tried it out but it didn't really have the effect one would hope. Sure it slowed the game down a bit - but it made it extremely choppy, and the sound got messed up as well.

Had the same problem with Wine (Geforce 7300gt on Linux).

Forced vsync for all apps (look in your video driver settings) and didn't bother looking more into it. If it still runs higher than 60fps after that - then yeah, obviously the game isn't the only problem.

>> No.4906696

>>4906656
Already tried forcing V-sync on for all application, it won't work with the english version. The japanese gets capped at 60 fps though.

extract vpatch.exe, vpatch.ini and vpatch_th06.dll in the game folder

run vpatch.exe ... if it doesn't work, or it gives an error, try to rename the english app to "東方紅魔郷.exe"

Then the game isn't the problem (at least not all of it), and you'll run into the same thing with another app sooner or later.

If Vsync is really on, it shouldn't be possible to run it higher than the vertical refresh rate.

Toggling V-sync actually did work. For some reason I had to reboot my machine in order for it to take effect. The japanese version was forced to 60 because I had set it so in the custom.exe.

So yeah, the english version is now running at 60 fps, looking extremely choppy even though there's only a 2.5-5.5 difference in fps between the two.

I'm going to try

... but I have to install the east-asian language pack in order to set the name. And the file necessary is missing (xjis.nls) and I have no clue where my windows cds are - and the file itself cannot be found throught google meaning I have to find an image file containing it.

This works out on my FPS problem anyways.
If you're on a dual-core processor, Run the game, bring up your task manager, go to the Processes tab find TH06 or whatever it's called, right click it and click Set Affinity, Then un-check processor 1.
Leave Processor 0 as it is.

By then it should be fixed.

Yeah, I got that.
Close but no cigar.

It did cut the fps by half, but 700 is still a tad bit too fast for me I'm afraid. I guess I'll have to practice a lot.

>> No.4907059

Something that really bugs me though is that there is an enormous difference in running the game with V-sync either on or off. With it off the japanese versions sticks to 60-70 fps while the english speeds up to 1400 and when toggled on they stay at 60 - but becomes very choppy even though there's only a small difference in the fps.

>> No.4909014

Tried running this on Win 7 with an Intel Dual Core processor.
Works fine for me. What are your specs?
