Friends, tell me about Ran. How many lives should I have when I get to her?

I got to her with 4 and then got another one during the battle from points I think, is that sufficient enough to beat her?

I didn't beat her, but I did a decent job for this being my first time fighting her. Basically, I want to beat all the extra bosses now.

I usually try not to die on the stage itself. I bomb both of Chen's spellcards, which is suboptimal, but still better than dying.
