I would rather read the tale of a magus who makes magical doors to whatever time or place he wants. He makes doors for people upon request, but always asks for something in exchange. In the end, his clients use the door to achieve their objectives, but the magus's request makes the client's objective futile. Sort of like a monkey's paw of... doors.
