What I noticed about suwako players is that there are only two "tiers": good and bad. Nothing in between. And whether you are good or bad isn't really determined by your skill, but by whether or not you can blockstring.

The only thing I'm lacking is a good deck, a better skill to predict the moves of my opponent, a blockstring, another blockstring and the ability to force limit most of the time. Seriously, I think I'm full of holes and since I can't seem to force AND keep my opponent in the corner, I don't consider myself to be a good or decent player. I'm throwing bullets from a corner and waiting for my enemy while trying to trap her between a melee and a special. I was actually at 100%, it's just that I play Aya very agressively, and he played quite agressively as well, but he reacted faster than me, so in the end I was eating counter hits every time I tried anything. And I mean, I wasn't playing that many characters was I? I mean, my mains are Suika, Sakuya, and Meiling. I thought I would do better with Reisen so I added her to my roster over the past couple of weeks and haven't had much success with that. So I might just drop her. And the last match with Cirno was just me fucking around.

Yeah, see, I have been trying to catch up to the vets since I started playing in December. I have made progress, but I hit a plateau, and that is the end of it. I have been there for two months. The only really even matchup for me is Gen. A few others too. Sadly playing them is few and far in between.

Also, as I have probably already told you, I played only with Suika during months (since Soku came out actually, I didn't play before), and I was probably one of the worst players around here. And I'm sure I was a worse player than you during all that time. When I decided that I wanted to stop sucking, I went to the good old:

Searched for Marisa. Read the whole page twice.
Went to the >Combos part. Went to practice mode. Practiced some Bread and Butter against a still opponent during a couple hours. Made a couple lunatic arcade runs with Marisa.

And then, I almost magically stopped sucking so much. I still suck, but at least now I can connect some moves. Even if I don't do a lot of limit combos, what's important is connecting moves without putting yourself in a disadvantageous position.

If you never took the time to read one of the wiki pages for one of the characters you want to play, you should give it a try. Maybe it wont work for you, but it definitely worked for me. Good luck, dude.

I have that site bookmarked. I have read every single characters pages so many times I pretty much have the pages mapped out. Even the ones I would never play as just analyzing their strengths and weaknesses, in part trying to find the right one for me, the other part as a, "Know thy enemy" type of deal. And yet is had done nothing for me except help me build decks and know some combos, most of which I cannot pull off at all.

I know where my problems lie, but it is impossible to deprogram myself I guess. I am used to being able to block with 7, 4, 1 or 9, 6, 3. Well I don't need to tell you blocking in this game doesn't work if you hit 7 or 9. This is just one of my problems. And yet another problem is not being able to find a character who feels like they handle right. I don't know how to explain it better than, the first time you jump into practice mode to get a feel for the characters and you just hit that one that has just the right speed, power, moves, whatever and you just click with them. I haven't had that, so it's me forcing myself to play characters that still feel wrong, but just less wrong than the ones I don't play as.

I think what would help more is if there was some sort of voice chat, like a Vent channel or something set up where some sort of conversation could happen during the match. Even if it dissolves into nothing more than competitive banter. At least people trying to learn from those with skill could get pointers while the match is still fresh in their minds.

Oh and I fixed my controller. Maybe over the weekend I will play again and really end its life this time ;_;

Hey, that's what I thought at first, but it's really a matter of perseverance. Also, I don't use many combos myself, I play a lot by feeling (because it's funnier like that), but you should really try to master at least one corner BnB and one middle BnB, believe me. Because most of the time (at least that's true for Marisa and Aya), the basic BnBs give you an idea of the "flow" of the character. Then you can add some personal stuff around that to create your own style.

I understand when you say that you haven't found the "right" character, that's always the problem in every fighting game. It's always hard to find the character who suits you the best. Try Marisa, her flow is quite easy to grasp.

As vor the vent server, I would have been glad to help, but my English isn't nearly good enough for that. Yeah, I'm a Frenchfag, I'm sure my posts are full of horrible mistakes, I usually don't write walls of text.

Ironically Marisa was my first character that I tried to learn. Mostly because I just liked looking at her Master Spark, and the damage it inflicted. But eventually I wandered away from her. I tried going back, but it ended kind of like how Reisen worked for me recently. I just kind of get beat senseless and ask myself why I am wandering from my mains/alts. The only way to have a fighting chance against people better than me is to lead them into traps. Like as Sakuya, let you jump towards me, I jump away, let you get super close and fire off 5B hoping you are going to attack and eat knives to the face. Just generally catching people off guard.

Say it once, I'll say it a hundred times. Air-techs. Stop'em. They're hurting you way more than they're helping at this point in time. You're doing a much better job with the 6B/C/white cloud bullet harassment. It made it annoyingly difficult to safely activate any skill-card, as it should be against Suika. Main things to work on aside from the air-teching would be your corner pressure and opponent reading. I play purely by habit. Learn my patterns and beating me becomes a cake-walk.

Good games wings. I noticed that you usually groundteched away from the corner, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but since you did it so often you became predictable. I was able to stand where I thought you'd be and continue attacking. Also, when you were stuck in the corner you made almost no attempt to get out. I could drain your orbs without any resistance. You are close to having a good zoning, you should however concentrate on keeping away the enemy with more melee moves, notably while in the air. Sakuya has a nice j6A IIRC. I could too often approach you only by grazing: try to benefit more from the coverage of your bullets to attack.
Also, you should mix a bit more your ground blockstrings, I could often see that you would go for knives after the third 5A, and dash 5A on it.

Touhou games only support 4/3 screen resolutions. Thus, your, say, 16/9 screen is distorting the 4/3 image to make it fit. Some screens add black bands on the sides to keep the original ratio.
Recent games don't have this problem because they natively support 16/9 ratio and can directly provide the screen with an image at the correct ratio that does not need to be shrinked/stretched.
You simplest option is to play in windowed mode, or to find a software that makes it possible to have bands on the side to have the correct format.

Anyways, I need to figure out what I'm supposed to do to get out of repeated attacks. It feels like I have to just block forever. If I try to go to the air, I get nailed by an air tech. If I'm hit and in a spin, but try to recover, 90% of the time it's right into another hit.

The problem with working on combo's is I can only really do it in practice and what works when they are pushed in the corner won't exactly work in the open. Additionally, trying to combo with a projectile in the mix seemed to be predictable and you'd just graze through it and hit while I'm wide open.

Guess I need to mix it up.

Yep, I've been practicing a lot with her lately. That 66a > 623b trick I was doing was part of that. I found that if the 623 was blocked I could either throw dome bullets to start a blockstring or do another 623b on the way down in case my opponent tried to graze. Of course, I had no idea if this strategy would actually work or not until I fought you so thank you for helping me test it out and have a good night
