better is always subjective - they are however pretty different, teh current trend of western smartphones hasn't been big there becuase normal phones offer the same kind of functionality just in a different way.

Well, the cellphone network in Japan is better so the phones have more features than they do here (though those features won't work overseas.) The phones also have better cameras and stuff too.

Have you guys even used a Japanese phone before? They have the worst interfaces hands down. I'd rather use a RAZR than a phone with a Japanese interface.
