4810476 No.4810476 [Reply] [Original]

My time as neet is sadly over and now this is my only chance. If I fail, I might as well kill myself, because my parents are both dead now and I simply have no income or qualifications to get any job.

But they are giving away scholarships and to win one you have to be among the best on an exam. Sounds good, right?

Problem is, instead of learning the past few months all I've been doing is spending 24/7 on fucking /jp/ and visual novels.

Is there a way I can study up for 5 exams in 5 days to not just pass them but to also do good at them? There is about 100 PDF file pages of material for each exam. So about 500 in total.

Any tips on learning quick/how to not sleep/how to not distract myself would be really appreciated.

Please, /jp/, you're the only friend I ever had and I don't want to die.

reducing sleep into something like the uberman or everyman takes months so scratch that. There is no shortcuts with concentration, you just have to grind through it. Best thing I can think of is 100 pages (1 exam) a day starting in order of the closest exam. Once you're outta time review the material before you sleep and wake up for the exam. Seriously you put yourself in a real bad place. You need to work hard now if you want any chance at that scholarship.

Five exams? Will the be held one day after another?
If all the material you need to know is in those PDF pages it might be doable, but you will need to dedicate lots of time into this. First I would recommend reading those PDFs a few times over. Focus on the first exam but you should go over all of them eventually. Try to understand the material. If available do some of the exercises. And then just read it again, try to remember and so forth. Repetition is your friend.
Flash card programs like Mnemosyne might be handy, but I would recommend Anki since it explicitly supports cramming. But it really depends on you whether you consider it worth the time or not. It might eventually be useful for especially picked out information.

Good luck.

Oh and I forgot to add: drink lots of coffee, or better yet, get caffeine pills. Take 100-200mg. You will probably have to increase dosage over the days by doubling it when you notice tolerance developing (I always used to go up to 1g per dose after a while back in the days...) but it sure helps you get things done if you feel sluggish. Just make sure you don't miss your sleep. If you want to shape up and learn for hours it will definitely help. It's very unhealthy though, so if you're sick don't do it.

OK FIRST. UNPLUG YOUR ROUTER.

I am goddamn serious here. I have had exactly the same problem before, so if you really want to get this shit done listen to me seriously

Second, Print off all the PDF pages. do NOT look at them on the computer. You WILL get distracted if you are on the computer.

Third TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER. and DO NOT CHECK EMAIL/PLAY GAMES.

Fourth Study in 20 minute chunks. study for one exam for 20 minutes, then get up get a glass of water move around a bit for about 5 minutes, then study for hte next exam for 20 minutes

Keep repeating this, until you have studied for each exam ~10 times.

as for WHAT to study. do NOT read 100 pages of math notes. DO PROBLEMS!!!! (SUPER IMPORTANT)

if you dont understand how to do a problem, jot down the concept you dont get on a piece of paper, and move onto the next question and after you have done all you can check the textbooks/pdfs for the info you are missing.

do not check the answer keys until you have an answer for every question. EVEN IF YOU ARENT SURE ABOUT WHAT THE QUESTION IS ASKING.

every two hours you get up and do some exercise and get something to eat. just a snack ~20-30 minutes.

-you will be going to the bathroom alot because of drinking water every 20 minutes, so use that as a time to get up and think about concepts of problems
-lastly, if you have no idea how to do something, try it again the next day, and if that doesnt work, ask a teacher, or someone who you ARE NOT GOOD FRIENDS WITH. if you ask a friend you will get distracted and not stay focused.
-bring a water bottle into the exam with you

>Adderall has a high abuse potential. Because Adderall has a powerful effect of increasing blood pressure, it carries the same risk of sudden death, stroke, and heart attack in patients with pre-existing heart conditions, as does methylphenidate and other stimulants used to treat ADHD, as well as the same risk of seizures in patients with a history of seizures.[1][27] Studies of long-term use of Adderall and methylphenidate in children have shown a temporary decrease in growth rate that does not affect final adult height.[28] Stimulant medications also decrease appetite in some people, leading to weight loss, and this effect is more common with Adderall than methylphenidate[28] or atomoxetine. Changes in vision have been reported with both Adderall and methylphenidate.[1][27]

Don't even look for the solution manual until you have answered every problem.

But having said that to find solutions depening on course level etc:

textbook Qs
-often have answers in the back
-might have a student solutions manual somewhere, you can check online for it
-if it is derivatives/integration go use wolfram alpha http://integrals.wolfram.com/index.jsp
-check with others. Chances are if you got the same answer you are both right (believe me this works)
-ASK TA'S/PROFS/TEACHERS/STUDENTS

PDFs
-either they come with a solution key, or there wont be one easily accessible to you
-ASK TA'S/PROFS/TEACHERS/STUDENTS
-check on wofram again.

DO NOT CHECK UNTIL YOU HAVE AN ANSWER FOR EVERY QUESTION

Stock up on enough supplies to eat and live comfortably for five days with no fuss.
Don't starve yourself.
Only take ten minute breaks.
Make sure to sleep 4-8 hours a day, no more, no less.
Don't overeat and stuff your face like a pig.
Before you study from a long book/pdf read through it extremely quickly without stopping to understand it. This can help create a rough map of the information so when you study for real it will stick better.
Only study up to the point where you understand and remember 60% of each exam subject, then move onto the next.
If you have time left use mnemonics, revision, and practice example cases.

Don't try to suppress sleep with caffeine.

Good sleep is extremely important for memory. You should allocate at least 7 hours of sleep per night or more if you feel you need to or your ability to remember will suffer. You should really get enough sleep. In my experience it also doesn't really matter either if it's day or night as long as your sleep is refreshing.
As you most likely don't have any other duties you can manage every day freely. Just make sure you go tired into the exams. You know your sleep habits.

And remember OP, after all this is over you'll be able to take it easy once again. I'm in a not so similar situation as you, but I've my exams in June and already I'm repeating this year while all my friends are off doing other shit. If I don't pass them this time, I'll be getting kicked out.

For serious.

Not op, but this is a good plan to keep your mind up and not forgetting shit

I would be worn out from trying to learn something for five days straight though.

Studying, my arch-nemesis!
Maybe you can just read everything somehow... fuck, I don't know.

I wish you luck, because if you're anything like me, you'll really need it.

I always study by, well, studying over the course of several weeks, then stop studying at least 24 hours beforehand.

No offense, but I just don't see how someone could fail at school or want to go another year when your friends are all leaving.

I wish you luck.

actually the bathroom breaks are great, you use them to think about concepts. it is actually a surprisingly effective place to think about problems. I have met lots of profs who have had revelations while peeing... they were all guys

Well, what should I say...not sleeping while learning something that's not that easy like physics, math etc is not a good option, it will just halt your understanding and effectiveness itself. Go to sleep at 00-01, wake up at 07-08.
For you to concentrate, try to seize your despair.
You probably won't succeed...but at least try your hardest for the rest few days so you at least won't regret about them. When I do all what I am able off, I have no regrets after.
Also I wouldn't recommend you pills etc, but it is up to you...
Computer might halt you as well, if you have materials on paper, you'd better put some distance. You will find no salvation for exams here.
If your are completelly sure that there is no way to cram it, you might try to find ways yo cheat, ask people who have already did that test and ask about things. But I guess, success rate of this is as low as for cramming.
And finally, I don't think that death is such a bad thing for I am not a believer. Yet I am animal so it is not that easy and I am not desparate enough.
Sorry for my bad english, it is far from being native or often used for me.

Then again, I don't know your country, and even if I knew it's name, I know nothing about circumstances on what is needed to get a job and to live there...if it is for our post-soviet contries, it is not unthinkable of living without education, tho being otaku-like won't help even here...if you fail, go to Mac, then learn life. It is not like there are many choices.

Horrible.
It's easier to remember something the more time it has to set in. This list is backwards.
