Come on, this is the worst game of the serie by far (even 4 was better).
The main character sucks, the girls suck, the setting sucks (if I want to play in fantasy America there's Tengai Makyou 4, at least it's good). It sucks.

4 pretty much cleared up all the routes of the previous games, so 5 had to start with a brand new cast, and not everyone took to it well. Go ahead and start with 5. It's not bad, but it's the weakest entry in the series. If anything, playing it first will help in that you won't be as disappointed if you play it after playing the high point that was SW3.

If playing the first four games, it's best to do them chronologically. I played 3 first and went back to 1 and 2, the battle system seems really shitty and archaic if you go backwards and the part in 3 where the Hanagumi go to Paris loses some of it's oomph if you skip the first two games.
