Kaguya and Patchy don't act like kids, and Kaguya is OLD.

Although really it seems that youkai basically have the mental state of whatever their bodies look like. Kanako and Suwako are both fucking goddesses, however Kanako appears to take shit much more seriously. Accordingly Remy is a rich little spoiled girl and acts like a brat.

Suika is much smarter/more cunning than she appears; she's silly mostly because she's been drunk for the past couple of hundred years. Then again Suika isn't a youkai.

Lastly it's Touhou, it was never meant to be taken seriously to begin with.

If you had an indefinite lifespan, would you waste it being GRIMDARK and SERIOUS? Or would you go out and have fun?

Of course most Youkai, especially the older ones, are wise. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to have fun. In Gensokyo, you can find a single person who can both teach a class on world history and play hide-and-seek in the forest.

We need some GRIMDARK like this. We have a nice, farming type family. The father of the house has passed away due to a youkai attack and the oldest son is left as man of the house. But that needn't hold true for all youkai. A lot of the "bestial" ones in particular probably view humans as prey. Which leads to humans treating youkai in general with aversion.
