Kanako's only strength is in combat--There's more to being a god than just fighting, you have to be able to do something yourself to be seen as a worthy god in the eyes of the people, and relying on fear of death without fulfilling the happiness of the worshippers is mere tyranny that only results in resentment in the long run.

She has done nothing to contribute to the well-being and happiness of the people of Gensokyo be worthy of their faith. All of the faith that came to the Moriya Shrine was attributed soley to the efforts of Suwako and Sanae.

Nah he's right. I (>>4733449) was confused about Aya's dialogue. The Japanese have a habit of switching subjects without putting them in sentences. So when Aya says, "She's just an annoying newcomer," RIGHT AFTER talking about "a kappa," she means Kanako, not Nitori.

Also, Kanako won by using industrial sh*t on indigenous populations and dumps the refuse in the kappa's rivers. Sound familiar to anyone? Kinda like Avat--Fern Gully?

hard to say really seeing as we don't know, it would probably work best but who's to say Reimu doesn't have inherent powers from her bloodline? Even if she didn't, at this point it seems better to keep her as a shrine maiden looking after Gensokyo then to cut her lose to god knows who she turns to if she needs spiritual power, we've already established gods are far from the only way of getting it and it's not like Reimu is short on youkai 'friends' who may want to capitalise on something like that.

Furthermore, Reimu seems to be a key part in the Hakurei border which I imagine he wants to keep up. Cutting off Reimu from her divine power is probably a last resort and for all her failings she does do her job for the most part, she's just not very good at the whole shrine maiden part of her job. She's just talented at kicking a whole lot of ass.

This would make for a good doujin game, actually.
Hakurei god shows up, is ANGRY. Nobody knows who he/she is, theres rival shrines all over the place, etc etc. Deems Gensokyo unsalvageable, hatches a plan to take back the barrier and build a new, better Gensokyo out of the raw faith/belief the current Gensokyo will dissolve into(?) when the barrier is removed. You play as Reimu, and attack the god early on (before you know who he/she is), he/she cuts off your powers, reducing you to a slightly above-average human. Epic adventure to regain enough power from various sources to stop your former god and prevent him/her from messing with the plot devices that hold the barrier together.
Thinking partially free-roaming action/RPG. I'd be great.
