Finally got some hair clips for my girl. They might be a tad too big, but they still look alright. Got a whole rainbow of colors, but I went with purple to match her clothes and green to match her eyes for this one.
Also, I will be joining the camera bros soon. Found a sweet deal on a new old stock DSLR since everyone is going mirrorless these days.

Etsy is one in a long line of websites over the last few months suddenly and brutally culling their nsfw offerings due to pressure from payment processors to sanitize or get cut off. This is why all the Japanese websites are hiding porn from the West, why Gumroad completely dismantled their NSFW offerings, and why patreon staff have stated that 'explicitly-stated consent in a work may not be enough to imply consent was given.' It's frankly frightening how swift and pervasive this has been.

I don't get why the money factories are forcing other people to pretend that porn and sex toys doesn't exist now, it never was an issue before. It's a bit too late to put the genie back in the bottle.

>> No.47345027

>it never was an issue before
Historically it has always been an issue. US as a population has always hated sex. George Martin commented on it directly, but you can see it in old programming too, where a father and mother would always have separate beds, separated by a nightstand because intimacy bad even though we all know they had sex to get those 3 kids.
But, like I said, give it a week. If amazon can't\won't conceal their sex toys, Etsy sure is hell won't.

Umi, is going to my Dream Choice that im getting in a little under a week, shes a human like Mizuka. Her partner is gonna be the Kuchisake-onna, who is Mizuumi. I have a couple key details in my head already but my next step is nailing down which head sculpt to go with for the android and kuchisake as Im trying to make them all different. The only name I was undecided on initially was my fox girl Kikyo.

Mizuka is from Satoshi Mizukami , I just dropped the mi. Kikyo is actually from Inuyasha but I've never seen/read it I just got the name from a figure I got for my niece that I thought was cute. Momoko is straight from the artist Momoko Kikuchi. Yushina is combination of Yuka Nagase and Nishina. Umi and Mizuumi were just from kanji practice and I like saying them. I settled on Mizuumi because I thought having the duo be Sea and Lake was kinda fun.

I was walking around scouting for an area to take pictures of my doll and then from a distance a guy with his phone out recording was talking shit to some other rando. I have my camera at my hand and he just so happens to look in my direction. cute photos, I imagine putting her face online makes her a bigger target for poorfag rage.

I don't have one favorite but here's a few (all mdds/dollfies):
@doll_shokichi- lots of interesting poses + very dynamic hair
@NoGood_NG- variety of fantasy outfits (and silicon parts)
@hachikoromura- does a lot of paintovers/editing. edits out joints which I dislike but can deal with. has a fat doll
@gonta0918- cute fox girls picrel. also edits out joints and some drawing. probably my favorite of the list
@_A1o8- huge variety of backgrounds + props

Absolutely yes, I used the kit lens on my first DSLR pretty much exclusively for years and years. What lens is attached to it? Depending on the focal length it can be more or less annoying to live with it. Would you post some of your photos anon? I'd love to see them! Tell me what you don't like about them (or what you feel you aren't capturing) and maybe I can offer some advice to help you get there.

Most kit lenses are pretty good unless you're sperging about raw image quality(sharpness, cromab, that shit). What you need is experience and knowledge, so it might be a good time to do a deep dive into portrait photography and the how and why of it. There are things your kit lens won't be good at, and that's just the nature of lenses; if you want a lot of bokeh you could pick up a 50mm f/1.8(they're usually very affordable), and you can never go wrong picking up some addition lighting sources. Another anon linked to these lights -

Sure I’d love to post some photos! I have a few currently on my drive for now and been itching to take more photos but due to bad weather, it’s been a bit of a struggle to take any with my other favorite doll. My lenses is a regular 18-55mm f 3.5/5.6 iii. What I feel like is my issue is lighting and/or focus from background. I’ve used manual mode for a while to taking photos but it feels like something is off about it including lighting.

Lighting helps a ton. Are you using a tripod? For raw editing the options are (paid) lightroom, capture one, and (free as in freedom) darktable. Larger apertures can be nice when you want them but bokeh isn't strictly needed and if you're going for best possible image quality you'd be around F/8 anyway. You can shoot jpg + raw, and that way you can reference the jpg if it came out as something you like as sort of your 'goal' to try to get your baseline adjustments to look like when learning raw editing. I found that helped teach me how to adjust things like contrast, local contrast, exposure, chroma/saturation to achieve a desired result instead of just playing around with sliders blindly guessing until they look slightly better/worse.

I couldn't tell if these last two pictures are different anons but the dolls are cute post them more お願いします

No help with lightroom since I'm a darktable schizo. But most editing software seems to have the same adjustment options. Most of what I saw on youtube followed the same generic process that this more or less captures

If you're using Manual and you have a good handle on how ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed affect each other you've got a good head start. You might consider looking up resources on composition, since a lot of photography comes down to how you frame and setup your shot.
>>47379796
RAW is pretty great since you can go back and re-process a photo in a completely different way, but as >>47379955 points out, you need a dedicated program for it. It also takes a lot more space, so be ready for the photos to fill a hard drive fast if you take a lot of them.

Apologies for the lack of an update on the Otakon meet. I'll be posting a more detailed update in the next day or so. Sorting out details with the vendor/panelist I'm helping out for the weekend. As of now, the meet will be on Saturday as usual, likely around noon to keep things consistent.

As a side note, I noticed in the official Otakon schedule there is an ABJD/Vinyl meet on Friday at 7. I plan on attending that in addition to hosting our little shindig. There's also a BJD For Beginners panel at 10:15 on Saturday but it's doubtful that applies to any of us that are attending.

Asian country moment. That security guard has no legs to stand on with that argument. Japan does have fairly strict laws when it comes to publishing peoples' faces, but in terms of taking photos in public in a location where privacy is not expected that is perfectly legal. But the phenomenon of security coming out of the woodwork to tell people to stop taking pictures in public places is something that shows up quite often in Asian countries.

It's a bit awkward to attend since most of the convention goers and vendors seem to know each other, but it's pretty cool. Lots of vintage and antique dolls and furniture, and lots of things for fashion dolls, such as Barbie, Gene, Tonner, and more. There's also some people who sell antique/vintage fabric and supplies, usually from their own stash from over the years. The wig vendors have sizes for BJDs, although most wigs that aren't in specialized wig stalls are often too big for BJDs. Make sure you go early since stuff there gets snatched up fast at times. Was in one stall and was looking at a wig and when I turned around to get it a minute later, it was already bought by someone else.
There are quite a bit if you're in the US, although they're scattered across the states. I think there's more of them on the east side, but I'm on the west side so I can't really confirm. I also recommend to check out vintage/antique doll shops as they usually have accessories and clothing that BJDs can wear and some even carry a few BJD items.

Buying a recast is essentially piracy. And if a legit doll isn't an option for you or made available, then it's not a lost sale.
Just know what you're getting into. The resin doll hoes and tumblrinas will hate your guts. They won't let you be part of their club.
I pieced together an anime resin doll from recast parts from alixpress and I was really happy with the result. I ordered a head with a face up, a body, and jointed hands all from separate sellers and I was happy with the quality of all the parts.
If you do order a recast I don't think you would be unhappy with the doll, but you will make everyone else angry.

Yup, there's the anger lol.
Listen I understand the concern for artists and the harm that recast can do, that's a legitimate reason why someone would choose not to support them.
But the fact the recasters in China are doing bad things, dose'nt justify the way your lot treats people. Half the people who buy recasts are new to dolls and don't even fully understand what they are.
Amd in the case of the guy above, it IS NOT a lost sale. The manufacturers do not sell dolls or ship to his country. He has no means to buy them. It is an access issue. The same way pirating a 20 year old video game that hasn't been sold or reproduced since it was released is not a lost sale.
And one of you suggested buying a second hand legitimate doll, the artists receive nothing from that transaction either. That would be a lost sale for the artist if they were still manufacturing the doll and it was available. I think there is a place for buying recasts if the doll is no longer being sold or manufactured. Just as long as people don't try to pass them off as the real thing if they try to sell then.
Maybe doll communities shouldn't paint everyone with the same brush and go on a self righteous moral crusade to shun non believers. But these are the same women who used to frequent tumblr back in the day, so it's just what they do.

>> No.47444247

>>47444090
Oh and about that point about the BJD economy being so small, maybe it would grow more if people weren't so vindictive and obtuse. Most people who stay in this hobby tend to buy more than one doll.
Senerio A - A person new to dolls finds what the believe to be a good deal on cheap doll on alixpress that they fall in love with. They have no idea what a recast even is. They take their first photos and make a post about how they love their new doll and who great of a deal they think they got. They are then verbally asukted and told how horrible a person they are for buy a recast. They are banned from the forum. Since they were shunned by the community for reason they still don't fully understand, they grow bored of their doll after a little while and leave the hobby, moving on to something else.
Senerio B - The person buys the same doll and posts it the same way as above. However this time they tell them how cute their doll is, but explain what a recast us and why you might want to refrain from buying more of them. The user is not banned. They stay in the community and through the community they find more dolls from legit doll makersbthat they love. They find one that they really love and decide to save up to buy it. Over the course of the next 3 years they end up buying three legit dolls.

So maybe you shouldn't be so happy about who your community drives people away

Nah, that's really not the case anymore. BJDs are not the niche hobby they were 10 years ago, although there still aren't a fuck ton of people into BJDs fashion doll and toy collecting in general have skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years, people know why fakes are bad.

I'm not that anon, and I don't really care what people from countries with insanely low wages or heavy restrictions do (though russianon could still look into Tinyfox 1/6 fullsets which are very nice, or possibly imomodoll 1/4 dolls) but a huge majority of people I see online with recasts are westerners who could easily save up money to buy a legit doll. Look at the BJD recast subreddit. Many of them have a bunch of other junk in the bg that they could have held off from buying to save up money, and many of them also have multiple recasts and it's not like the recast dolls they buy are exactly cheap either- complete 1/3 dolls may still still cost hundreds and while it is cheaper than what they'd spend on a real one, what's stopping them from buying a smaller real doll? And clothes and wigs aren't any cheaper either, $20 for a wig and $30+ for outfits add up. I'd love to support people in Scenario B, like who Russianon is, and I do see some people who are like that but if you look at recast friendly places most recast purchasers are not like that. Aside from those types of people, I only really see children/parents of younger children who want to buy recasts because they don't want to buy a $500 doll for a 11 year old, which is a different situation.

Fairy Land and Volks are very popular and are still expensive but they're not the only ones anymore, there are dozens of taobao brands that offer very cheap dolls and bjds at different scales. Hell pic related are the 1/6 Tinyfoxes (is a JP shop display for some reason they really love marking up Taobao dolls) but most of them cost around $110 during their preorder periods before shipping. There are also resin BJDs that cost ~150 or less for a naked body and head- I don't really keep up with resins so I don't know the exact brand but I do remember seeing an original taobao brand somebody bought to make a hybrid with their MDD that was only $100 for the 1/4 head and body, but no faceup. More popular taobao brands do cost more, but they're not the only ones that exist. And there are many smaller accessible options now, like the blind box BJDs or Azone 1/12 and 1/6 dolls, which are relatively cheap now (especially secondhand) thanks to weak yen. I personally think Azone 1/6 dolls are a better option than larger dolls for people on a budget because it's much easier to buy (or make!) cheap clothes.

Additionally a ton of recasts are not from big name brands like Volks or Fairy Land but from small artists. One doll maker I like called Watausa has a ton of fake heads floating around on Taobao now even though she only started selling her original heads last year, that's the kind of artist people are screwing over when they buy fakes. It takes a ton of time and work to set up the logistics to start selling their work in a mass produced setting as well, especially if these artists are working on their own and don't have an established company to collaborate with. Many doll makers are not doing it as their full time job, and buying fakes is part of what drives them away. Volks doesn't need your money or support, but they do, and it's incredibly demoralizing for them and people who buy recasts are what make them stop selling dolls or even stop posting altogether.

Also picrelated is some random person's photo from twitter but the right doll is the Tinyfox doll that was $110 before shipping through the Taobao store. I'm not sure of the prices of the tinyfoxes in the display but I assume they are similar, if not slightly more. I purchased it from a reseller for $150 with free shipping it may be slightly cheaper through a taobao proxy. They're also sold on Aliexpress for a higher markup, and I'd only suggest buying in stock dolls vs preorder for peace of mind.

See, that's the problem, you're being a bit of a cunt about it. I'm the russanon one, and I DO want to figure out a better way of doing this. I'm not trying to scam people out of their money or anything. Why the fuck would I even go to this thread if my intention was to buy the cheapest recast just for my own enjoyment? I'd just do it regardless of your opinion. But I literally have no way of buying straight from the source. So let me figure it the fuck out.

Additionally, did not expect the doll community to be this way. Kinda reminds me of the whiplash I got from interacting with the Lolita communities - big fucking assholes about the tiniest things. You would think that wouldn't be the case, right?
But again, I understand your concerns, and I am trying to find a better way.

Russian anon, are you still here? Did you consider s*******-doll? I'm thinking about buying from them, I really like their selection. I didn't compare all prices with manufacturer shops, just some of them, but they seem fine, considering how much shipping from overseas would cost even in better times.

I’m not trying to be aggressive or trying to talk down at you? That sentence wasn’t meant to be mean, is it a language barrier thing? There have been multiple anons in previous threads lamenting the prices of dolls compared to how much they make. Though I have certainly seen many people from poorer countries, specifically Southeast Asia, still save up for fancy ass dolls, I was just trying to extend some leniency.

>Why the fuck would I even go to this thread if my intention was to buy the cheapest recast just for my own enjoyment?
I was just going off of what you said from your first post (and replying to the other anon, who /was/ trying to be a dick) which is that you were looking into buying recasts. Tinyfox and Imomodoll aren’t recasts, and Tinyfox isn’t a bad brand whatsoever. My bad for giving suggestions.

No language barrier whatsoever, I'm as confident in my English abilities as I am in Russian. What I meant is more of a "it sucks that you don't give a shit", but I guess that is none of my concern in the end.
Anyway, I'll look these up as well, and sorry if I'm actually the one being a cunt here.

No worries anon, I’m glad you’re looking into buying a legit doll. The only reason I’m shilling Tinyfox is because I like it, I own a 1/6 and honestly it’s close to being on par with my dollfies. For Imomodoll, I’ve seen people pair Mini Dollfie Dream heads with Imomodoll bodies as a cheaper alternative to the Dollfie body. The body is kind of flimsy, but it’s good for what you pay for. Tinyfox uses solid plastic, and Imomodoll is vinyl.

Again there are also many legitimate resin doll taobao brands that are also nice. I have seen some Taobao proxies accept bank transfer or credit card payment, not sure what you’re limited to, so maybe look into that too.
