My problem has never been lack of motivation or ability. I've had 4 girlfriends since HS and all have been at least vaguely otaku. I've often been complimented on my good looks (Usually by old ladies but whatever, I'll take compliments where I can get them.) and I've been told I have a sexy voice. Although I'm a pig disgusting otaku at heart, I can at least hide it convincingly enough that I'm sure I could get a normalfag girlfriend if I wanted to. Of course, who on /jp/ would want that? There just *aren't* any desirable options around, none that aren't taken anyway.

I think that has more to do with a lack of social skills and tact in most people who are into that kind of thing. The average /jp/er is probably better at hiding the power level. It's actually not bad if you run into someone who knows how to do that; you can let down all the barriers for a brief moment and talk about things IRL, then put the facade back on.
