What is this?

/jp/ has started on a project to translate the visual novel Hatsukoi, one of the highest rated according to the Japanese.

Are you in need of translators?

Of course! Anyone with knowledge of Japanese (and English) is welcome to join in and start translating with the simple and easy-to-use REtrans™ Web Interface.

Are you in need of editors?

Definitely. You don't even need to know Japanese to help improve the English text, so your participation is encouraged.

What is the length/progress/ETA?

The total length of the content is approximately 32k lines. We are slightly over 40% as of this post. At our current rate of (EST) 0 lines a week, we'll finish sometime in March of 4294967295. But the more translators we have, the faster everyone can enjoy the results!

One misplaced quote, missing comma, etc. and it'll complain.

I should probably see if I can revive the ROI (REtrans Offline Interface) initiative.

Hey guys. Anzu's almost done. Currently have it up to around line 5000.
Maybe I can get it done tonight? If not I'll have it done on Wednesday afternoon (JP time).
Want the current file? If so I could upload it now, otherwise I'll wait until it's complete.

Oh, also, I've been testing it for errors etc every 100 lines so it works fine.
Also, one other word of warning... Apparently the game doesn't like commas in the menus. Even if the game boots up, if it gets to a menu selection with a comma in it it will crash. There were some menus with commas in them in the Anzu file, but I took them out.

In other news, sad girls in rain.

>> No.4754493

>>4754362
Awesome. COCO, KARIN, KOMOMO left. I'll wait until you finish first.

The commas... RWI did this automatically, but since you decided to edit it manually, you'll need to become familiar with this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values

Japanese commas don't confuse it though.

>> No.4754636

>>4754493
I figured that out via trial and error :p

For some reason though, it still has errors when putting them in the menu options so I just decided to not put commas in menus

I think it's obvious by now that despite the trolls and haters trying their best to destroy it this project is going to finish. It's simply taking longer than some people hoped. Since lolita was the one that kept the project going for so long and lets face it, despite the problems, it wouldn't have survived without her making and bumping these threads for months. I wonder if you could convince her to come back to these threads.

Not as project manager, there IS no project manager, just some people who keep the retrans site going, the 'project manager' position would be all of us here on /jp/. I wouldn't mind lolita coming in to bump and start threads.

Just sayin.

>> No.4848394

I'm still the project manager. There's just not much to do. Progress updates are meaningless unless you use RWI properly --- ANZU's changelog is COMPLETELY out of sync with the file now so we've lost all abilities to track its progress/selectively revert any changes to it. PLEASE do not make any more changes to that file for now until/if we can think of a solution. The others are still in sync and can be edited without any further problems.

Is it not just the older brother's failure at directing the younger sister that she has become so incompetent?

Karin is intensely practising the piano. It's somehow different from usual・・・More seriously than usual・・・It gives me shivers.

・・・To be honest, Takada-san was the one who told me, that you were being a nuisance.

That's right, Takada-san did give up the performance role, so she wants Takasagi-san to do her best. That's why, she worried that you being around Takasagi-san would distract her.

Alright, it's still a bit of a ways off, but did everyone see the poster about the chorus concours? Getting straight to the point, we need to decide who'll be the piano accompanist.

Seems like, something I did has put her in a bad mood・・・It's a bit unsettling, I haven't been to music room in two, three days, so as to not interrupt Karin's practice; so we haven't had much of a chance to talk.

Just a pointless nitpick,. but there's no guarantee that the machine knows how it's being used. What if it's being used as "excuse me" and not "I'm sorry" It's a context sensitive language, you need to at least attend to the machine's output and modify it to fit context instead of copy and paste.

You need to stop having unrealistic expectations.

Personally, having so many lines butchered makes me not want to participate in the project. What you need to do (since you can't seem to get your head out of your ass) is maintain some semblance of quality control. Set standards so that everything looks homogenous and check translations yourself (I know, you actually have to do something! Tough, right?) to see if they're up to the level of quality we need or not.

No one wants to read a translation over again to check if it's accurate. It's okay if those translations are 85~90% accurate, but fixing every single translation is exactly the same as retranslating the entire thing. Please don't waste our time.

Why are you trolling so hard? If you don't think this project is any good why waste your time bitching about it?

All I see is a bunch of anonymous trolling and not one line of "properly translated" text which you claim to be able to produce. Get a tripcode and produce some "properly translated" text or shut the fuck up.

The main cause for bitching is Cudder/Lolita.

Both of them fail at managing and yet they insist on being the ultimate managers of the project. They're rude to those who help and don't seem to have any common sense regarding how a project should be run.

I probably would translate more if I thought that Cudder knew what she was doing.

To be fair, SOMEONE have to do it or you end up like Hongfire Musumaker's project ... dead in the water.

Of course most project leaders are also translators since for most part that is the hardest position to take but its not hard to see many "groups" start up to just get the translator finding out what exactly s/he got into and drop out due to sheer amount of work involved.

Someone cracking the whip and forcing deadlines are required unless you want it to be stuck at 26% for the next 5 years, a "open system" does not really work either as it puts a lot of extra workload on the editor that will end up pissing off one of the prima dona translators because a concise working is required and someone will eventually disagree with a edit.

tl;dr

If you guys are so much better why the fuck dont you start your own project ... oh, right. Because talk is cheap.

If you go into a thread and say that a VN sucks, you will seem like douchebag no matter what you can do to back it up. You will never convert someone that way, just make people hostile towards you instead, and before you know it, the only thing you do is get into stupid arguments all the time because you're a total douchebag and people hate you.

I pointed that out countless times, but stopped as no one really seems to care. The beginning of anzu.txt is so bad the person who did it himself tried to delete it before, but Lolita insisted on keeping it so the whole thing will be done sooner, which gives us a good idea of the level of quality aimed for.

Also, I doubt the rest is much better, I just didn't bother to check it. I saw that a short, not too difficult line that appears on the first page of all character's files was done wrong by EVERY person working on the translation, with many different variations (they don't even bother to keep identical lines consistent).

Either way, I played through about 1/3rd of Anzu's route and the game is so mediocre in every respect that I think trying to steer the project in the right direction isn't even worth the effort.
Yeah, the "one of the highest rated according to the Japanese" is bullshit, always has been, and won't change by repeating it over and over.

Name for me a better incest game.

I deleted it because I was sick of people not working on it because they claimed my work wasn't good enough. Even AFTER Lennar worked on it to fix it those people refused to work on it. Meaning their problem was never with my work but because they had no intention of working on it and were making excuses.

I didn't do that bad of a job, sure it wasn't 100% accurate but I admitted that from the beginning. Stop claiming that it was so bad I deleted it. I hold to the fact that if nobody else came along it would have been good enough that main body of /jp/ would have been happier with it than with nothing.

It will be finished, it's being worked on by translators much better than I ever was and within a few months it'll be finished.

And of course the kicker is that your doing it despite not making any real progress - two steps forward, ten steps back hurr seems to be a favored approach.

Why don't you just make a separate website for it now? Basically all the people who want to help out are helping out, and everyone else feels indifferent to spiteful for this project.
Even if you do finish the project in this manner, people are still going shit over it - it'll be like the KS of translation projects.
