That night, you could barely sleep at all.
You kept having odd nightmares where you'd be falling through a black void as hundreds, no, thousands of eyes stared at you, each time awakening in a cold sweat and fearing you'd find someone in your room again.
Needless to say, you felt fatigued once morning came, though still lucid enough to realize something very bad was happening and that you would need help. You decided a visit to the Hakurei girl would be in order, scary as it was also to think what she'd do to you once she learned what you had been up to. So, you got dressed, got your cane, put on your straw hat and packed some snacks for the long and dangerous trek to the shrine, and were on your way as soon as you could.
It took several hours of hiking along a path that just kept getting worse as you progressed through the familiar rice paddies outside of town and into the forest of magic. You couldn't help but feel as though being watched. Perhaps it was just natural, given there was not a soul in sight, and the thick canopy of trees made it hard to track the sun and time. There were also a lot of stories about youkai and strange witches dwelling in this place, after all.
This would have made sense, yes, but you had felt that presence as soon as you had set foot outside of your home. You had already lost track of how many times you had looked over your shoulder.
"Just like in those nightmares..."
You trailed off as, at long last, you could begin to see the steps of a long staircase leading up a steep hill. Finally. You began your ascent, not sure whether you'd even make it after all this exhaustion. Who decided putting a shrine here would be a good idea? No wonder nobody ever comes here.
But at last, you could see over the top and through a series of red gates the main building. A lone girl in red and white was sweeping the stone path leading up to it, and you knew it had to be her. It was also about this point you realized you had been so tired and distraught over what had happened since last night that you hadn't really thought of what you would tell her. "Hello, miss Hakurei, I may or may not have summoned a millenary youkai and who knows what else from reading forbidden books at my local library. Help me, please, pretty, please?" If some youkai did not kill you now, perhaps she would for your foolishness, but it wasn't like you had much of a choice now. Here went nothing.
As you slowly approached, the sound of your sandals against the stone alerted the girl to your presence, who now seemed to have sparks in her eyes.
"A visitor! Welcome!", she greeted you.
"Good day, I-"
"Donation box's right over there! I'll show you the way!", she continued, walking away.
"What? Wa-wait!", you tried to stop her, but she did not.
Was she just not listening? You realised you wouldn't get to talk unless you followed her, so you began walking after her.
Eventually, you reached the old, dusty box, whose only contents seemed now to be a a spider and her web. The girl stood next to it, looking at you expectingly. By now, you were gasping for air.
"Miss... Hakurei... Ahh... My apologies, but I have not come for a donation..."
"Ah? What do you want, then? If you were looking for charms, we sell those, too."
"No, I need something else."
"You came for our purification service?"
"No, I didn't come to pay for anything. I need your help."
At that point, her face drooped, and she began seeming a little annoyed.
"And I need some coins. Running a shrine ain't easy, you know? I can't just be giving away services for free. What do you think I-"
"I might have summoned dangerous youkai from a book."
She stopped midsentence, and for a moment just stared at you with a blank expression. Then her annoyance from before gave way into some sort of resignation as she sighed, put her broom aside and let her head droop down.
"What book?"
"Here", you took it out of your pack and passed it to her.
She took it and began eyeing its pages. After a while, she asked,
"How much of this did you read?"
"All of it..."
You couldn't help but look away after saying this, but you could still catch her lifting her face from the book to glare at you, then returning to it.
As she read, she asked, sounding displeased,
"Have you noticed anything odd since?"
But just as you were going to try to explain, someone interrupted,
"My, Reimu, have we got a new visitor?"
An unknown voice. It forced you to return your gaze at the girl.
"Ah! How many times have I got to tell you not to show up like that?", the girl said, startled.
And right beside her...
"Awww, you're no fun!"
"Hard to be when there might be a new incident brewing, courtesy of my 'new visitor' over here."

The sekibanki story was around then, too before the HSE stole most of these writers and got them stuck writing misery porn or whatever the fuck goes on there. Not an oldfag by any means, but it was indeed seeing others writing good stories that made me think it would be nice to get into it myself. It helps me imagine new scenarios with 2hus that I like, so much so that I feel conflicted on what would have been better for a story.
Some ideas I had earlier include Reimu not even being at the shrine, but only Yukari, having baited Reimu away with some fake incident, and Anon finding her there. Or Yukari already being there with Reimu when Anon arrived, and Yukari using some border manipulation to mute Anon. Or Yukari not even allowing Anon to reach the shrine with gap trickery. Or Yukari ruining Anon's reputation in the village so he'd be forced to leave it forever. Yukari gapping his house away. Yukari forcing him into becoming her shikigami. Yukari, Yukari, Yukari. I want Yukari to occupy as much of my thoughts as possible, as vividly as possible, as often as possible. I feel excited just thinking about it, Anon, about the wonderful and beautiful woman she is.

More often than not, the Yama feels as though she is nothing more than a slave driver but she still shows the odd display of affection. Relatively small things like taking your hand in hers when you seem particularly stressed or leaning against you during a quiet moment of peace. You know why she is doing all of this and what she wants from you but she seems to be holding herself back from taking it. Even in moments when she comes close, when her lips come dangerously close to touching yours, she always pulls back, always saying something about how "we" aren't ready yet.

Maybe she just wants to know that she wasn't wrong about you and that you can live up to the expectations she placed upon you. It could be that only once you have proven her right that she will feel comfortable with taking the next step and truly making you hers. Until that day comes, she will be watching in one way or another, constantly making sure that your potential is not being squandered.

It's my theory that KMS walked so HSE could flail and that HSE is mainly responsible for the huge uptick in writing quantity and quality. Everyone who sharpened their knives on the spin-off of a fanfic is spilling over now that the thread has slowed down.
It was basically a writing incubator since the project was easy to hop on to, your work could be used by others, and you got to compare your work to others in the same narrative. Even the bad work was worth it because it made some common writefag issues apparent, like making the story too complex(one simple idea is infinitely better then five bad ideas).
The one HUGE lesson we should take away from the HSE for future collaborative writing projects is to have a clear end date once the work starts to dip in quality, if the ending was written in January the story would've been much better for it, but hindsight's 20/20 on that.Fat chance of that every happening again though lol.

Writefagging begets more writefagging. I read a couple things in one of the transformation threads and got a niggling to write a post out. It's really a wonder how a single prompt can get you thinking about a story idea even if it was unintentional by the poster, and other anons writing just gives you an excuse to do something and have fun. It helps that /jp/ has a larger character limit than most boards. Plus there's more posts where I can steal ideas from.
Honestly I rather have writefags shitting up threads. It is original content and lets us be creative and stave off board stagnation a little longer. At least there is effort in the posts and gives you something fun to do in a thread that would probably otherwise be an image dump. She rambles on about the metaphysics, but it all goes past your head.

Maribel meanwhile announces that she has something, so you all gather around to look. It's a small shrub. You ask if this is it, and Maribel laughs. "Of course not, it's in front of the shrub!" The only thing you see in front is a squirming caterpillar. Maribel laughs even more at this, saying you're one of the funniest people she knows. You see nothing though, you're adamant about this and say so. Eventually, your repeated denial begins to make the girls get flustered. It's there, why can't you see it? The other boyfriend stays silent, whether out of shyness, confusion, submission, or what you can't say. Renko grabs you by the neck and pulls you closer to the ground. Strange as this entire situation was, you found yourself beginning to agree with what she was saying, the fear from earlier giving way to some kind of dejection over how this was turning out. The youkai's voice once again snapped you out of your thoughts. She had moved, and her face was now so close to her, you could see her long eyelashes.

"Though if that is the case, you need not worry. Were I you, I would be more preoccupied with returning home. It is getting awfully dark, wouldn't you agree? Youkai will begin to come out and roam soon, and a human like you wouldn't last an hour alone lost in the forest." She hid her face behind her fan again, and you could swear she was giggling. You would have begun feeling annoyed at her, but she spoke sooner than that.

She stood beside it, holding a closed parasol in one hand. Now that she was out of the gap, you could begin to see more of her figure. As in that image you had seen, she was wearing that silly hat, a purple frilly dress, long white gloves and several ribbons on her long, blond hair, her neck, hat and... everywhere. You only noticed now even the gap she had come out of, and her parasol, had ribbons. You also noticed how she was taller than you expected; your own height barely surpassed hers. She seemed... elegant. Refined, even. She then extended her open palm, covered by that silky glove, inviting you... in?
There should have been no way you were even considering this. She was a youkai! But there you were, hesitating on whether to take her hand. It wasn't as though you could not get back on your own. It wasn't that dark, at any rate. With luck, you'd find your way. Probably.
But your curiosity got the best of you. Wasn't this like how this affair started? You might as well follow through with it at this point. You shyly extended your hand and put it over hers, first grazing it with your fingertips, then settling onto its smooth, gloved surface. It was warm...
Having secured you, she disappeared back into her gap, gently tugging you along. With luck, you thought, you'd come out of it again alive.

I was trying to think of a scenario but then it occurred to me that she is not exactly a conventional ghost and probably doesn't need such a scenario for a relationship to work. Having contributed to all the threads aside from KMS, I think they work better separated. It's like, I don't go to an Ice cream shop for Gryos, but I can appreciate both. It's also bad to try and tie too much identity across the site, it limits creativity and causes a lot of pointless frustration.

Now, onto more pressing matters. What If you individually caused all four Flans to separately fall in love with you? Do they share a hivemind and all experience the same things at the same time? Or do all their experiences combine into one when they reform? For example, it's easier to raise favorability from 0% to 25% rather then 25% to 50% or 75% to 100%, but if all the percentages get added, then you could make each personality like you a little bit, but when they recombine they'll utterly smitten and cause an incident being suddenly obsessed over you and not having the emotional capability to deal with it.
Then Patchouli could try and separate them again, reasoning that their favorability would get split between them, but instead they all copy the original 100% favorability, causing four yandere Flans to be running around, she could try to hastily recombine them, but then the percentages would add again...

I like the idea of Flan psychologically prodding you by pretending to be schizophrenic. So on Flan could pretend to be hyper-aggressive and threaten you into doing what she wants while another pretends to be super timid to guilt trip you into only taking care of her. In the end, It's all just Flandere trying to monopolize you from every Yandere angle she can manage.

Balancing three personalities is already difficult, but any more makes it difficult to make them distinct but also not too locked into a singular character trait.
Plus, Flandre just doesn't have anything to distinguish between the selves. It's just four identical vampires.

With Aunn (whose second body is probably "real", but not fully independent, going by comments in Grimoire of Usami) you can make an easy dichotomy, going by a/um, male/female, aggressive/protective lines, or whatever you can think of, while Hecatia has unique looks, combines with unique domains, and can easily segue into past/present/future, or a spectrum where two are more extreme with the third being balanced, with each being fairly distinct from each other but also having some overlap (fitting her role as a god of boundaries).
Flandre just has a spell card that makes copies, but there's otherwise absolutely nothing to her character that makes her four people. Everywhere she appears it's just Flandre.
