Women don't actually like touhou
90% of the "women" you see that like touhou are males at birth
The remaining 10% are real women claiming they like it for male attention, you see the same thing with anime, women never gave a shit about it until it became mainstream and popular to like
Touhou is extremely targeted towards males, even a lesbian has little reason to like it as the characters are too girly

Though in all honesty waaay back in the day I went to otakon for a meet up with some guys and girls and there are in fact quite a few actual women who really like touhou lore and have written tons of fanfiction and art. Not sure if many of then are still with it though. Many have moved on. Oddly enough one was a Wiccan which I guess was totally understandable.

2hu did however gain very significant boost in popularity thanks to all porn artists flocking in there at one point, including Japanese artists. It was basically the Twitter of today around 2012.
I remember seeing artworks hitting 4-5 digits of engagement regularly in there.
There was even a big ask blog community when that shit was hot.
And of course the mentally ill part of Tumblr who took internet in 2hu as a gay icon because, haha, female utopia, baby.
