The convention season will be interesting for MangaGamer this year. Last year they got a lot of attention for announcing Shuffle and Higurashi, and Shuffle seems to have been their best selling game to date. They really need to capitalize on the convention season to get people to play Higurashi which will likely be nearing completion by then, a Shuffle sequel since that was their best selling game to date, and some major announcement (Key would be ideal if talks are successful).

>> No.4615962

This is from their interview at Encubed.

>Q: Is there a particular direction that you want MangaGamer to go in?
>A: Ever since I started working for MangaGamer, I’ve been pushing the need for us to improve the quality of our translations, and changes are finally starting to be made, so I’m quite excited. My hope is that our sales will greatly improve to reflect this as well. As it stands, they’re nowhere near as high as we wish they’d be. If our sales could reach those goals, it would be much easier for us to license some of the games that are out of our reach right now.
>That said, I also wish less people would pirate our games. For a multi-million-dollar console game developer, a few hundred or a thousand copies lost isn’t very significant, but for a small company like ours, every single loss hurts. As it stands, our best seller, Shuffle, has still only sold half the copies we’d like it to, and our next best sellers, Da Capo, Higurashi, and Kira Kira, have sold even less. People have asked us about whether or not we would ever publish hard copy print-runs, but the fact of the matter is that those are impossible if we can’t anticipate sales equating our current goal.

Funny you say that.
Yesterday, for the first time ever, I actually bought an anime DVD. 5 Centimeters Per Second to be precise.

What I was met with was some bizarre aspect ratio and noticeably definition picture. Not only were the fan translated versions available in HD (720/1080p) vs the DVD's 526p or whatever the fuck it is (I thought DVD were always 720?), but the subtitles and the translation were each better.

Some could argue that the original always has the superior collectors value, and yes they are probably right, but I would say that the original localization has collectors value in it's own right, sure it might perhaps not be as great.
