Finished first volume of Boogiepop and liked it a lot.

As someone who likes urban fantasy I kinda wish I read it earlier, you can clearly see influence Boogiepop had on tons of ln writers, NishioishiN and Narita being the most obvious ones, like I'm sure that Baccano just doesn't happen if there is no Boogiepop, lmao.
Book itself was very fun and breezy read thanks to an interesting story structure that made imo not that amazing main story a very engaging read, characters being great and easy to sympathize with was also a plus, though the main highlight for me was to find out just how fucking chuuni Boogiepop is, Nagi using fucking ore as personal pronoun was a personal favourite, but a sweet lovestory about man-eating monster and pshychopat, who wants to be killed by strong women and have boner to people being devoured in gruesome ways, was good too.

True. I initially wanted to strangle her while reading the first arc but frankly she and the five idiots entertained me the most after that. That and slowly realizing how much of a fucking idiot she was as the story progressed. Marie route giving a completely different perspective also softened her worst impresssion from the first arc

outside of the mainstram kadokawa shit more than 1 million, especially with sub-10 vols, is nothing short of amazing, the bottom half of publishers are happy hitting 100k on a big hit
someone already mentioned but it's a matter of perspective, top sellers are irrelevant when it will be primarily just kadokawa, the thing is being cash cows within the publisher itself
for example instant death may be trash but in the context of being in アース・スターノベル it does count as a cash cow

basically, the wn chapter count is deceptive, by the latter half of the wn chapters are long to the point of absurdity, a single fight (and the aftermath) near the end of the current wn that took like 4 chapters is almost a full volume long on it's own, the namek backstory for the original hero was also just 3 chapters and easily a full volume on it's own if expanded on just a little
by my estimation there's almost 10 volumes worth of content there, but no clue why the author doesn't continue the LN yet, it's not like he wrote himself into a corner either, the wn just stopped for no reason and there's plenty of plot threads to easily go off from
it's not like he lost interest in it either, he retweets every single new manga chapter as it comes out, every new manga volume and during new years he mentioned "そろそろ更新しないと…" so there's that
who really knows, his bio also mentions "めちゃ最新話進捗70%" so maybe with some luck he will put out a volume content before leaving for another year
unless he means vol 3 progress, which would also be all right

finally got off my ass and read 亡びの国の征服者 up to the latest WN chapter.

Liked the characters, the world building, the flow of battles and stratagems that don't read like asspulls, the art (for the parts that are covered in LN), and MC's characterisation being hard to get a read on but is there with a lot of reading between the lines.

Was somewhat ambivalent on the random math, certain character's motivation being basically "I am a psychopathic retard", and the alderamin-tier table flipping plot towards the end of arc 1 nearly made me want to drop it. Also the author has written 4 chapters in 2 years.

I would still recommend it but with the caveat that it might kill your interest at the end of the first major arc.

the only ones to avoid when just starting out is nisio stuff and only because you will get lost in the language used and that's not fun, and modern day contemporary romance-dramas because they REALLY rely on the reader to 空気を読む and that's something you get by reading/watching one or two normal things first
basically everything, even romcoms, aside from this and you're good to go

In terms of story, it's not so well written as Mushoku, Overlord or even Re: Zero, but it's certainly more fun and easier to read than any of them: Its narrative, descriptions and fights are top tier and not a single part of Its 13 volumes is boring or dense (also the story is interesting despite it's not its main point).
It has many clichés and fanservice, but it knows how to use them very well, while breaks completely other clichés. In general, it feels fresh as well as familiar.
The protagonist is OP, but he is not simply OP because yes: he has really earned what he has by fighting for his life (and not with the generical gym training nor the experience farming). He has a radical but credible physical, mental and personal development.
It's also fun to see how he creates and uses modern/sci-fi vehicles and weapons in a medieval fantasy world, which doesn't completely clash since he combines his common and apparently useless blacksmith skills with his knowledge of our world and what he has seen in manga and movies.

This could be argued is a side-effect of people overusing the "self-insert" buzzword to the point they actually start to believe protagonists are just blank slates from how much people reject sympathizing with said protagonists out of fear of "self-inserting", but that's not really important.
Basically, the problem of all "dude ISEKAI lmao" stories as well as all "subversions" is that they make a strawman then in the process of trying to subvert said strawman they just become it, which is laughably ironic to the point it's almost sad.

Completed ノーライフ・ライフ. That was good. It's like reading the origin story of a template rpg world with a heavy dose of clarke's third law. But the author is too autistic about natural sciences but not its social counterpart and the characters. He can write them competently considering the little of it we got, but he didn't, which makes most of it read like author's just dumping his world building monologue. Still entertaining though.

Eh, I get your point but you are simplifying it too much. You are right in the sense that there's nothing in the plot stopping author from introducing life extending magic or something. But not introducing it is definitely not rudeus being lazy. He was preparing for his descedants vs laplace, logically speaking there's no way he could have risked spending his remaining life on researching life extension when they are not sure it's even possible and the fact that it isn't actually critical for their final goal. It's different from the magitech he developed, which they know would be useful against laplace if they succeed or there would be at least someone to inherit the development and create something useful against laplace unlike life extension. It's fundamentally a matter of priority.

if it was just SoL like death march but without the stakes that would be fine, the guy survived the demon continent, tried his best during his childhood, earned his place on the academy, let the guy retire and enjoy his life, monofag shit or with the 3 girls either way SoL would have been well earned for him, but instead the story wrangles itself into a super serious world threatening plot involving every important figure in the story
and again, if it was a normal nariagari it wouldn't be a problem, that shit is normal there, but the story puts rudeus on the shoes of ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWA and doesn't really deliver
problem number three, rudeus didn't even accomplish what he set out to do, the fact there's a sequel underway means his efforts to stop hito are not even guaranteed to pay off and shit can still go wrong, what's worse, his family is pretty fucking dysfunctional in no small part because he was mostly absent as a father due to orstedcorp wagie jobs

I'm a new LN reader and an avid Isekai slop enjoyer (mostly anime till now), last year I've read Overlord, Mushoku Tensei and Ascendance of a Bookworm and now I'm looking for more good (as good as you think the genre is) light novels.
My favorite by far is Ascendance of a Bookworm, I ended up reading basically 2 chapters per day and wasn't even bothering using my free time on other stuff like playing games because reading it was so fun and would like to experience more of that.
For now I'm only considering Konosuba because I really liked the anime, but I'm open to any suggestions. What are some LNs you wish you could forget just to read it all over again?
I waited hours till a new thread so more people could see my question but this board moves so slowly that I just gave up...
