Guys I need help, I think I'm having a spot of autism.

Is Necromancy even intrinsically wrong? Would it even be viewed as such? I know within the context of MGE, monster bad because Chief god and Order, but take it into a more generic setting without the CG and Order and wouldn't it just be embraced as a part of mainstream culture? I know traditionally necromancy bad because disease and killing the living, but Mamono undead are hygienic and only want to make love.

The undead literally do nothing wrong, asides from a little rape here and there. They do not attack the living (so long as they aren't single), they do not spread diseases or illnesses, and it's a way to live forever with your loved ones. As much as I like the shadowy aesthetic and the hidden liches hiding in ruins and ancient catacombs, wouldn't this be a culture with vast, sprawling cathedral-crypt-city halls that exist to administrate death and undeath? Like, Grandma and Grandpa just died, better haul their corpses to the local Crypturch so we aren't fined for unregistered resurrections, see you in two weeks while I try not to think about you going at it non stop that entire time until you acclimate to being undead.

Also, does it even make sense for them to be vulnerable to sunlight? Why would elements even oppose in a setting like this?

In real lore, necromancy bad because you can't actually subvert the laws of life and death, and doing so runs contrary to nature and actions that run contrary to nature are self-defeating. We interpret this in stories as, if necromancy works at all, it only works in a faustian monkey paw fashion, with the overall message being to respect nature and respect your place in it.

I guess I'm just asking for any reason to keep necromancy as a secluded taboo, otherwise I'm going to have to rethink it's relation to society. They may be some utilitarian and Machiavellian reason a god may want to keep souls in its particular afterlife, but an otherwise eternal believer in heaven is the same as an eternal believer on earth.

I suppose you could say the undead impose a sort of self-exile on themselves, as too many of them might pollute the surroundings with their mana, interfering with living beings in the process of life and not necessarily ready for death. For this reason they may confine themselves to ever expanding pocket realms of undeath, ever expanding due to the eternal and growing population that's perpetually fucking.

Not on this specifically at the moment, but this line of thought will influence how I look at things in the future. As I said previously, the undead imposing a self exile on themselves makes sense, so rather than vast swathes of them integrating into everyday society, maybe what happens is there's a small church stationed in every major settlement that handles the process and the dead go around for a couple months giving closure to the living before departing and maybe returning every so often for a vacation. I'll just have to think of how fitting this casual form of necromancy is, and whether or not the notable absence of a majority cohort of undead would still breed unfamiliarity and suspicion on the practice.
