Different appeals I guess. They're very different works despite being part of the same series. But yeah I think Higurashi is a lot better.

Higurashi was terrible, in my opinion. It tries too hard to be creepy, the story itself isn't very creative, and the characters are terrible and hardly likeable.

Not that Umineko's any better but at least it's somewhat enjoyable.

Higurashi was excellent if it stayed as a mystery-only story. When they tried to add kakeras and power of friendship as a plausible explanation, everything went to hell.
Ironically, I fucking love Umineko.

That's why people are still worried about Umineko: despite the fact that it's pretty awesome so far, if the ending is as bad as Higurashi, it'll completely fuck things over.

It's fucking terrible now.
Story is horrible, it's filled with fanservice characters but the cast as as a whole is still fucking undeveloped even after 6 games.
It turned its gimmick into a trainwreck, I don't see how anyone sane can still think this is a good game.
Except for the shipper fags but they don't count as "sane".
You play it for the soundtrack and to laugh at the stupidity of it all, that's all.
