If i was to start Touhou, im wondering whats the deal. I really dont want to install 10 fucking games for this stupid fad, but its hard to even withstand /jp/ without knowing what the hell you idiots are talking about. SO wheres the best place to start, is it really necessary to get all the games that are out so far, What is the difference between the games, etc. etc. etc. help me out a bit please.

You don't have to install 10 games. Just download either Embodiment of Scarlet Devil or Perfect Cherry Blossom first and play through them. Either one of those two will help train you for the later games. Once you do that and decide that you enjoy them, then you can get the other games.

And Touhou isn't a fad. It's a way of life.

You don't even really need to play the games. They're all shit for the most part. Just read the wiki and enjoy the doujins and pictures. If you really want to play though, skip the first 5, noone cares about them anyway, including ZUN. EoSD, PCB, IN and MoF are the most typical Touhou games. Start with PCB. EoSD is hard, IN is confusing and MOF is shit. PoFV is stupid as is StB. IMaP is good but a fighting game so it doesn't really put forth the true Touhou experience.

There are three types of Touhou fans:

1. A relatively quiet majority who just play the games casually and enjoy them. They might read a doujin or two.
2. A few elitist fags who complain about everyone in 1) who plays EASY MODO.
3. People who do nothing but collect billions of doujins and fanart pieces, and never actually play the games. These people are usually embarrassed by this, and get out of it by calling the games "shit".

tl;dr: Touhou is awesome. Play it (PCB is a good start). Ignore groups 2) and 3).

It all depends. If you just want fapping material then by all means don't play the games and fap. If you actually want to be able to get in on discussions and what not, read up on the characters, play the games if you want (don't really need to since most of the Windows games have translated scripts if not translated patches), and read the manga (serialized and doujin).
