▶How to play?
Run anchor.exe (or Emuera, depending on the game), Japanese locale is advised so you don’t run into untranslated text.
If you wish to manually update, delete old files aside the sav and dat folders to avoid any bugs.

If you’d like to either edit or add your own portraits, the files are located within the ‘resources’ folder in webp format. You can use paint.net to edit them.

Train with someone a little better than you, actually dueling also gives a big skill boost. Make sure you borrow the related book from Kosuzu, this goes for all skills actually.
Get the mixing supplies and grind mixing to gain access to your own spellcard-like abilities.

Shooter cast lets you give yourself a handicap, also useful for leveling combat. Momiji can give you a better one if you romance her.

Not really. They're not real NPCs, more like a held object at first and a moving decoration later. You have a handful of events when they're growing up but it's almost nothing. I think only like, Mokou has lines for childcare. She talks to the kid about being too strong to fight other kids and how easy it is to hurt them. And once in the teenager stage you have a chance of finding them doing stuff in your home map, like trying to draw, or sing.
After they grow up you might find them working in a random spot, and if you had a high love with them they'll ask for/send you money rarely.

Seems like wishful thinking. The problem with TW is that there's only one "mob" in existence, and they always occupy the last slot in the character list. Whenever you save a mob you are actually writing their data to a separate file to be loaded onto the mob ID. This is why you can't have multiple in-game at the same time.
If you used the mob slot for children, you'd have to deal with all the clashes from code that assumes the last character slot will act like a normal mob. If you tried to make them a new character slot, you'd have to deal with all of the code that assumes the last character is a mob. Either way, you'll be limited to one interactable child at a time, and you'll need to make a system keep them growing while they aren't loaded.
Obviously, you could just rewrite TW to support a dynamic amount of random characters and solve all of this, but doing that is going way out of the realm of "easy".

I should say I was definitely being hyperbolic when I said it wouldn't be hard to implement. Given how every system in TW steps over one another to do things there's nothing in it that's downright 'easy'. I was toying around with the idea of using the save data up in near 999 to store mobs since it's about the only thing AFAIK that eramaker writes to file beyond config files. Either with a parameter list in the savename or otherwise modifying it, which Pedy probably has experimented with. Here's an example from eraKami. It should be noted that at least TW's saves are stored differently, might just be encoding though. I mean... just visually hide the mob character slots in the save menu, lol.

Well, the game checks "FOR LOCAL,0,CHARANUM" a hundred times after every command you input to check what each character is doing, with CHARANUM being an engine variable that directly tracks how many exist. Adding a bunch of blank characters into that would have some unpredictable effects (it'd definitely crash, I'll tell you that much). You'd also have to somehow move those children every time new characters are added.

Because TW was just a Touhou slave trainer, and at the time, nobody considered why you'd want to train randoms in a Touhou game. There was always to be a predefined amount of characters it was coded as such. Much later, mobs were appended in the most non-intrusive possible to minimize the amount of effort spent modding the existing code. Meanwhile, AS and K were built from scratch with their features in mind, so they can handle freely adding and removing people. It's the same reason you can't just copy K's sex system over to TW, K was made for it, while the entire command system in TW would need to be gutted for it to fit.

The engine is made to handle manipulating characters at any time, just look at the docs. ADDCHARA(*.csv) will immediately add a new character ID to the end of the roster from a file, while ADDVOIDCHARA makes a blank one. There's nothing about the core SHOP/TRAIN system getting in the way here, it's just about fitting it into TW's implementation.

Generating the mob and writing it to a CSV isn't very difficult, TW does exactly that when you generate a mob: it gives the mob ID all of its properties, then saves that character to the CSV when you choose to "remember" it. K also does this with its R_CHARA system, and it even has a child CSV generator if you'd like to take a look.
If I make the conversation command execute "ADDCHARA 1", it'll add a Reimu every time I use it, placing her in the next available slot. She now exists in a buggy state, but soon after teleporting her to me, TW crashes looking for @CHARAMOVE_DATA_159. So yeah, adding the character is simple, but keeping the game stable afterwards isn't.

Use multiple sources for translation of Japanese language characters.
Translate, don't localize.
Look up individual meanings for a character.

It's always been like this; their dialogue even comments on it. Instead of arriving at the map entrance, they spawn at the player's location if they're home.
And unlike the other characters with special mechanics that I added later on, the Back Door group only ever targets the player and never chooses any other location, so it's effectively 100% guaranteed for them.

Yeah, its not for everyone. Like you said it take up to 5+ in-game day to realy get to the interesting part, but once you get there it does have it's moment.
