Takeshi went there, chill, as if he was sitting in a nomikai surrounded by the Takeshi Gundan and not the media, talking like a lead character in one of his films, being 100% frank about what he did, even saying that he had no choice but to do what he did, while still apologizing to the victims and for being violent in his own way. You could even see his lawyer shitting bricks next to him. And in the end, Takeshi restarted his career shortly as if nothing happened, and used the FRIDAY scandal as comedy since then. Very few people can scandal and come back to the very top like him, there's also the period of time Takeshi was in when it happened. Matsumoto can't do that, he doesn't have the personality nor the period he's in now allows it.

In my opinion, the cult part is the best, and that's where Sono shone the brightest. Many of Sono's works are reflective of major cultural shifts in Japan, and the theme of Love Exposure was to reflect religious cults which were on the rise at the time, and it hit hard for me as someone who used to read up a lot about that issue at the time.

Kurosawa literally reinvented the science of keeping the viewers on the edge with Cure. He stepped out of the comfort zone of horror and pushed the genre into uncharted realms of philosophical and existential exploration, which personally made me re-watch it back to back when I first discovered it 2 decades ago. The murder mystery is intriguing, the grim and nihilistic tone is engrossing, all drenched in atmosphere, ambiguity, and an unwavering sense of dread. It's still, and will always be one of my frequently re-watches films. It's so languid and lucid, I can't help it.
I recommend watching all of Kurosawa's works if you can, but his most famous works like Charisma, Séance, Pulse, Retribution and Tokyo Sonata are a must for films lovers.
