Duh? The thicker and larger object obviously is going to break the lighter and thinner one. You're not supposed to hit a katana against someone's sword, it's made to cut people wearing simple clothing or some non-metal armor at worst. The broadsword is made for use against people wearing heavy metal armor (which is not found in Japan due to ore being too rare and precious).
