I specifically meant the actual day of the portals opening. I consider every post-portal story to be some flavor of MGC. I like Magus' stuff obviously.

I don't particularly hate that setting, but other than like three authors, stories in MGC have very little world building. I would absolutely love more that touch on MG's perception of Earth or the changes to both worlds post-contact with the sharing of technology and magic. I live for that stuff.

I'm writing a story that's going to end with the MC and wife going through the portal to our world after he was initially isekai'd to theirs by the Mamono Lord in a bid to cure her daughter of being a stinky NEET which was caused by her discovering her soul mate didn't exist and would never be born into their world through the creation of a magic crystal orb that would attune to a monster girl and then either point at where her soul mate is or glow to say he hasn't been born yet. ML and her haven't talked in a decade because she refused to share the construction method out of spite. I'm planning on some one shot stories following this one that will be on the actual day the portals open when the orbs are mass produced and the ML opens the flood gates after yoinking all of our weapons away. Maybe I'll do another longer story. We'll see how well liked this one is first.

I switched jobs, I now work as a salaryman for Danukicorp. I don't know exactly what we make but so long as the Anubis Manager is happy I get to sleep in her office with her rather than going home when the trains have stopped running. The 4.2-meter height for 3.6-meter width mech he was grafted in was barely held by the steel cables of his aerial transporter. The data cables directly attached to his spinal cords fed him with all the details from the rattling sounds of metal surrounding him to the firework of heavy artillery crashing on what was a great city less than a year ago. A simple mental order allowed him to check that the 30 mm cannon that replaced his right forearm was well fed.Het already knew that but it was always reassuring to hear the positive ping.
“Insertion in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, good luck soldier” spluttered the pilot before he punched the release command.
A loud bang sent the mech suit crashing into his designated spot. The unknown liquid surrounding Thomas's body slowly rearranged itself to absorb the future shock. He could see the ground rapidly approaching through the many lenses dedicated to his vision. Some enemy soldiers were shouting at their colleagues while pointing at him. As he was readying himself for the impact and the soon-to-be battle a strange feeling washed over him.
The mech completely phased out of reality instead of hitting the ground. He was now floating around in a sea of nothing. His only valid eye could see bluish specters everywhere,they were warm to the touch and filled him with a tranquility he had never reached. It was like slowly sinking in a warm bath, something it should be able to feel in his sarcophagus.
Thomas' captors suddenly came back to life and sent a new flow of information, a pink-like energy bolt crashed on his armor and triggered all his security alarms. Before he could even scream through his speaker, he was back in real space but instead of a battlefield, he only found himself in a forest covered by light patches of snow. A quick check showed that all his normally grey and red armor was now harboring a pinkish glow, especially on his 30 mm shells. More worrying, none of his network connections were working, even after trying all the radio frequencies used by his platoon.

That reads a bit rough. An exact measurement like this isn't something one would think of at that moment. You could say something like: "At just over four meters, his armored mech nearly touched...blah blah." It just reads more naturally while still giving the detail.
