After seeing this cute little demon maid I had to look up tinyfox. TONS of cute stuff
Can I get a basic rundown of tinyfox? I was mainly looking at Heer Monka and Cherrie

>> No.45313647

>>45313534
Tinyfox are a newer brand and have very cute dolls! I haven't personally handled one, but I've heard good reviews of them in the community, generally. The typical vinyl concerns remain (staining,) but overall I feel their price point is quite solid for what you get.

>> No.45314866

>>45313534
They're really nice, I have two of them! They don't have internal skeletons with a vinyl shell like DDs or SMDs, they're solid PVC with a really nice feeling soft-touch coating (which does stain like vinyl, and stains cannot be removed easily since stain treatments can damage the coating) and inserted joints between parts (think the only really hollow part is the torso cavity which has its own frame). They're pretty heavy and feel sturdy. I would recommend new clover singing if you aren't able to order from taobao yourself, she ships for free to most countries. Be wary of staining with the black outfits (I think Cherrie has one), they do sell bodysuits to protect them if you want to use dark clothing. They're on the more affordable side compared to some other dolls in the same general aesthetic but they're still nice. Oh and it's also worth noting that the new Macoco line has been reported to not be constructed the same as the 1/6 angel body and the 1/4 standard body, being lighter material and having no coating, whether that's good or bad depends on your preferences

I have a tinyfox in 1/6 size. They are far heavier than vinyl DD.
They are solid and heavy, like a BJD, but are made of dense plastic. Maybe heavier. I believe the 1/6 I have is heavier than some 1/4, or it may be the weight in a small area. They feel well made. They have a normal range of movement, nothing spectacular. The head moves smoothly. Their skin is matte and smooth. The wigs are maybe the cheapest part. They come with no shoes (to save costs) The outfits are well made. It would be hard to get a better doll for the same price, they don't seem cheap and it is easy to change their eyes. I would buy one again.

faceup artists use enamel paints because they're easy to erase. you can do a multi step process with drawing features in enamel, getting them just right with a tiny sponge eraser dipped in enamel thinner, and then sealing the details in with a lacquer clear coat. enamel thinner doesn't erase lacquer so doing it this way is kinda like layers in photoshop where you can work on one layer in peace without worrying about fucking up previous layers.

enamel thinners give off toxic fumes though

Most of mine are secondhand. Depending on age and other factors, there may be stains, yellowing, or cracks in the frame of varying severity, which may or may not bother you. I don't personally mind (and I enjoy fixing up janky dolls to the best that I can,) but others are uncomfortable with stains or other cosmetic/physical damage. Character dolls may also be missing parts in their fullset, ala accessories, original wig, etc. Generally, just look over the images carefully and read through the descriptions well before you decide, especially with older bodies and doubly so for old obitsu bodies, which, in my experience, are the most likely to have frame damage. Overall though, I've had good experiences -- and if you want something rare or discontinued, secondhand is the only way to go.

Yellowing
Heavier
more intense maintenance (restringing)
they're often bulkier than vinyl dolls of the same scale so clothes fit differently

Resin has the following positives
Much lower stain risk (near zero, but not zero)
can be cheaper depending on brand
better posing

Congrats anon! It looks like the wig is indeed on the right way, if a smidge crooked. You can pull on the wig cap a bit to adjust the position to your liking (moving it back to make her bangs shorter, rotating it a touch to move the partition in her hair, etc). Doing faceups is hard, it's a good first try! Even if you decide to redo it later down the line, it should clean up if you've sealed the head properly so don't worry too much about getting it perfect, as long as you love her that's what matters. Azone's 1/12 fairy lines, including Sugarcups and lil' Fairy series, are more stylized with big heads (about as big as the heads of their 1/6 line, which are slim styled girls), and stand about 4-4.5 heads tall. Generally the most important thing for characters of different height to look in scale with each other is similar head sizes, so they don't really look in-scale with each other side by side; the model kit girls will have much smaller heads and realistic proportions. That being said they don't look bad on a shelf together by any means, it just might look weird if you're posing them in a scene

I did finally find the zippers I was looking for — model name is MINIFA by YKK
and ironically now that I know what they're called I'm seeing references to them everywhere, even Volks sells them (misspelled "Minipha" though)
they're a size #0 zipper so quite small
YKK only makes them in #0 closed-end, but the west taiwanese make bootleg versions in #00, #000, and open/closed #0 as well
however I'm lost on how to search this stuff on Ali, the search engine drops the "0" and basically shows me all zipper results…
I just happened across a single seller of pre-cut lengths but I'm still looking for a source for separate spool + pulls

the pattern for the longer one doesn't extend straight out from that, I'll be using a different shape with a proportionally tighter hem circumference

Not thematically this time, but they are intended to be sisters, so I always try to style them to match a little. So of course the older sister is wrapping presents while the younger one is out playing in the snow.

Doll was too large boxed to put in any of my suitcases or carry on board for that matter I believe. Ended up moving most of what was in my carry-on back and tetris-ing the doll into there with some makeshift padding just as a precaution. Both going out of and returning home, they had me open up the bag and check through it. The conversation had was yknow I don't think they get people with large dolls as carry-on luggage I guess. I'll be blunt, I live in a country with bad currency and shit import tax, so even if I wanted to blow a ton of money on a doll, I might get taxed to hell for it. I've been looking all over for dolls, and want to know if there's any other options than the ones I found.

I've been looking for dolls under 50 dollars, maybe 60, so far Imomodolls like pic related seem like the only option. They have larger dolls I was very much interested in, but no way in hell I'm paying 50-100 USD in shipping, and being frank I don't like the first option having 28-60 USD shipping either.
The second-best option seems to be the many blind box BJDs I've found on Kikagoods, but I'd rather not go too small if I could avoid it.

Are there any anime dolls that fall under that cost? Or should I just give up altogether for now and wait till I can get a foreigner to receive and send them for me, or even bite the bullet and pay import taxes.

>> No.45402282

>>45401486
Might be able to negotiate with them to declare shipment as a gift or lower value to avoid taxes. Also, if it were me, I'd wait to buy something I'd actually want rather than settling.

A ~50USD doll is either going to be 1:6 or smaller, or a recast. You could get a blank 1:4 imomo off AliExpress for 50-60, but from the sounds of it doing it piecemeal would be far worse costwise. Shipping on mine was 3.50 CAD, which is absurd.

There is also going second hand off Facebook doll groups. Sellers there are generally open to layaways and/or helping dodge import taxes.

>>45402282
Japanese sellers won't underdeclare the value of the shipment anymore due to changes in law recently.

>> No.45403796

>>45402282
Perhaps, I know some places will ship things in roundabout ways and declare packages as gifts to avoid taxing.
And my struggle is exactly that, I can't find many options I want that also happen to be in my budget.
>>45403354
I was looking into 1/6s indeed. Larger scales seem fun, but I am not sure where I'd even put one, never mind making her clothes and caring for her joints. If she's large enough for me to give her a hug, I'm happy. I've spent years with Figmas and other small figures, it'd be nice to have something larger.
I found a handful of items on Aliexpress, mostly those Dreamfairy/Match Box girls when they go on sale for about 40-50, but I thought I should at least give a chance to originals since apparently buying recasts is considered a cardinal sin everywhere else. At least I have something to fall back on, if I can't find an original.
Honestly, I'd take that 3.50 CAD after so many 10 USD ones, shipping hurts man.

Thanks you two, I have a better idea of what to expect, I'll keep on looking. Just found Suruga-ya through this place too, it has helped.

I own Volks' old metal display stand, their thicker wooden octagon display stand, and the improved metal stand.

The new metal one is definitely the best. Sturdy, and the clips that adjust the length are much smaller than the older version.

The wooden one is definitely the nicest looking, but the bulky base might look distracting to some people, so the newer Volks' thin metal stand is probably the best bet.

Some sites offer free shipping on larger orders. You might pay more over all, but all said and done even if the doll body is cheap you're going to be paying for all the extras eventually anyways(eyes, wig, shoe, clothes, stand, ect.). Alice's Collections offers free shipping to all countries on certain orders, and while you might not dodge taxes, not paying for shipping is pretty awesome. If you were to order all your stuff from multiple sites, you'll get hit with the shipping charges each time and that shit adds up, so it's worth seeing if you can do it that way.

I don't know what to say. They're 1/6 for starters so their hair is never flow as freely as a 1/3 like DD in the first place. These wigs are also synthetic which is gonna behave differently than more natural fibers, and I can tell you they behave very differently when they are 4cm long than when they are 15cm. But heat and a bit of force can force them into position.
Other than that, Shino's side bangs came treated with some fixer from the factory, so stiff. They've become disheveled over time and I tried to fix them with a bit of was and admittedly that has made them strange and wire-y.
As for Yui, the twintails are behaving like that out of pure tension forces, when I untie it it will fall straight down.

yeah especially with tight sleeves, I have to do that because the hands won't fit through
it's also a good idea in general if you have blushed hands, or hands with nail paint (I'll chafe off)
the problem with Obitsu bodies though (AP included) is the wrist assembly is what keeps the forearm attached to the elbow
so then you have to feed the forearm back up once the sleeves are on
the three layers was just a pain having to pull each sleeve through the other
I've heard that it helps to thread the sleeves first then put the arms through, but that made the fit too tight through the torso so I had to do one layer at a time

forgot to mention, I keep a pair of long tweezers in my "doll tool" kit for stuff like this, and adjusting wigs etc.

Where do you guys go to buy wigs/eyes etc? I'm "assembling" my first doll so I've been looking on etsy and noticed there's multiple sellers selling wigs with the exact same images, all shipping from china and some of them can then also be found back on aliexpress so now i'm hesitant to get stuff from there.

If you have a more recent body (DDf3) the hip joint is a bit notorious for doing that. I've never managed to find the magic spot that will make that thing stay locked in place. Just fiddle with it, unfortunately even I don't know quite how to deal with them.

>>45475385
Etsy didn't used to be nearly so bad, but it's really gone to shit. Cotindoll is a popular option! Leeke also make nice wigs, and Mandarake (in addition to selling second-hand doll stuff) have an in-house brand called Himekazura you can check out! Thank you for reminding me, I need to actually fill in the wigs portion of the guide.

Seconding Leekeworld. Most of my wigs are Leeke and the quality is wonderful.

>> No.45483224

Leekeworld is great, and I had my girl in a light colored wig from there for months on end with no problems. Be aware though, that darker colored wigs do have darker wig caps and can lead to staining.
Here's a good guide to wigs and what's available: jadepixeldoll.com/where-to-buy-dollfie-dream-smartdoll-wigs/
