I think that's it actually. Her proportions also look a lot more exaggerated in the newer pictures.

It's a little more orange, not quite as detailed and most unforgiveable is the shortening of the braids to shoulder length. The weird thing is that she's still a 9/10 Hong for the most part, but when compared with the earlier drawings it feels like night and day.

Meiling was happily mixing a drink working the counter at Geidontei, the mistresses' birthday was coming up and not wanting to be outdone by everyone like last year, this year shall be different however, she spotted a copy of the mistresses' favorite anime movie at Kourindou, Remilia used to own a copy but it was lost during the scarlet incident, so in order to surprise her with something only Meiling knew she liked she would work a few jobs during her vacation time, and besides, it was nice doing something other than standing in front of a gate all day.
"Bleeding Jane for the young girl~" Meiling exclaimed energetically
"Oh but i didn't asked for this drink" her client replied
Keeping her cool Meiling followed "Is that so? You looked like you wanted to drink one of those instead, is it not your favorite drink"
The gesture made her patron smile "Aww thank you Meiling, you are always so attentive"
Meiling smirked smugly, thanks to her ability to read the qi of others she could easily anticipate what her clients wanted, after two weeks she already made a couple of regulars.
Things were going so well Meiling couldn't help but dread having to leave this job a little, she was certainly going to miss the niceness of miss Miyoi being a common part of her life but then she would remember her duty to Remilia and her garden she was so proud of and that would be enough to restore her resolve.
"Ugh it's not fun if you're not embarrassed about it"
From the other side of the counter approached Miyoi
Meiling flashed her a cheeky smile "you should have picked a better punishment boss"
"How was i supposed to know you where going to pull off those clothes so well? I know i couldn't pull guy clothes"
She had a point thought Meiling, while her own..."attributes" weren't exactly modest, miss Miyoi's where an undeniable testament to her womanhood, as she was ready to subtly allude to these observations Meiling and Miyoi heard the door bell ring
"Meiling could you tend that one please? I need to check up inventory"
Meiling knew she really didn't and was still a bit upset she didn't give her an effective punishment for breaking a bottle of expensive sake yesterday, it seems pushing a third of the clientele on her was her plan B.
Oh well more tips for her she thought.

Marisa still a bit stunted replied "Uuuh, just sake is fine"
"Coming right up! Would you like to take a seat?"
"Wha-yeah sure" that request finally seemed to have gotten Marisa over her confusion
Meiling couldn't help but feel Marisa's eyes on her as she poured her some sake while she sat down
"So, they uhm... they kick-"
"They did not" cut Meiling "I am here to make some extra money during my vacations"
"Mmmh defensive are we?"
And there she is, the loudmouthed, cocky asshole Meiling knew the witch for

And then she drank her entire sake cup in one go

Luckily or perhaps unluckily the bar was beginning to clear out at at this hour so Meiling only had Marisa to deal with.
She was being oddly civil, she was expecting way more sass from the girl that would openly intrude the mansion as if it belonged to her, that's not to say Meiling didn't had to endure a few witty remarks at her expense but it wasn't as nearly as much as she expected, and besides Meiling was beginning to sense a certain feeling welling within the witch, a feeling the gatekeeper herself was familiar with.
Inadequacy.
Meiling wasn't sure if it was to get a chance at getting back at Marisa or out of sympathy for her but she couldn't help but pry
"So miss Marisa, i couldn't help but notice you didn't bring miss Reimu with you tonight"
"Oh fuck Reimu! Why does it always have to be about her? Why is it always she who gets to save the day? I put my ass on the line way more than she does you know?"
Meiling was outright curious now "What do you mean by that mi-"
"She can just sneeze at the enemy and it's over, did you know that she sleeps walks? And she doesn't even know because apparently the less she tries the more the universe decides to give her freebies! It's fucking bullshit it's what that is! I burn my eyebrows studying every night! Make all of these potions that could melt my skin off if i don't wear the proper equipment! I lose sleeps for entire nights just so that i can learn a new spell, but do i get a compliment for that?! No! Of course fucking not!"
Meiling was speechless, not at Marisa's outburst but her pains felt so familiar, she would remember all the countless night she would spend training only to be easily trampled over the next day, all the sore muscles, the broken bones, the mockery, the humiliation.
"Just want someone to appreciate my efforts"

Sweat began coming out of Meiling's forehead, she just realized she went on a massive corny rant and was getting ready for Marisa to tear her to pieces with it

And there it was, that familiar intent on Miyoi's qi whenever she offered her a drink, it was never malice she noted, it was similar to the qi of a fairy that would try to prank her when she believed Meiling was asleep, still her insistence was definitely a bit suspicious
"We must celebrate your second week working at Geidontei! Come on come on, this one is on the house!"
Meiling was running out of excuses at this point
"I'm sorry Miyoi, i need to train early in the morning tomorrow"

From the day she started working here Meiling noticed Miyoi wasn't a normal human, her qi looked like it was tethered to the building itself, Miyoi herself caught up just as fast about Meiling did somehow, later that night Miyoi would confirm her suspicions after introducing her to a "secret" patron that would come after the bar would close.

The gatekeeper jump backwards a bit, could it be? Is she finally going to reveal her true intent?

The question escaped Meilings lips during a lapse of curiosity
Miyoi and Suika went quiet, both looking at Meiling with a knowing smile

"Why are you so persistent on not drinking around me anyways? You're like that taoist leader!" Miyoi continued this time with a pout
Meiling was still not getting malicious intent from Miyoi or Suika who was simply watching the interaction in front of her unfold
She has been working with Miyoi for long enough to know she's a good person, maybe she just really wanted to pull a prank on her

Rocks tore through the building's floor tearing it to shreads along with dozens of other building, Meiling dodged it all as she was the strongest of course
"Miss Suika, i need your help t-"
But Suika had been knocked out by Namazu's attack, Miyoi was hiding behind a mostly destroyed wall
It all depended on Meiling now, the hairy shrine maiden wouldn't be here in time to save the village!
"I HAVE THE POWER TO DEFEAT ONIS MEILING, YOU CANNOT BEAT ME!"
Meiling sore into the skies like a dragon and descended at high speed aiming her foot squarely at Namazu
But it wasn't enough Namazu just bounced her attack away like it was nothing
"Use it!" Miyoi threw Suika's gourd at next to where Meiling landed
"It's the only way to defeat him!"
That's right, anything is possible with oni sake!
Meiling drank copious amounts of sake from the gourd and jumped high into the skies again
She could feel it! This time it will work!
"SUPER CRAZY KICK MANIAC DELUXE THREE!"
Meiling landed on Namazu with enough force to create a crater under him

*Pfft "Namazu?" next to her was sitting a woman with an enormous and fluffy raccoon tail-raccoon tail?!
"Why-What is a tanuki doing here?" Meiling began noticing all of the youkai at the bar
"Well, what is the scarlet devil mansion youkai doing here?" responded the amused tanuki
"I-i-"
"Miss Mamizou please don't bully her, she's confused enough as is" Miyoi finally showed up to Meiling's aid
"Miyoi? What happened with Namazu? How did you rebuild the bar so fast? Why are all these y-"
"Meiling!" Miyoi placed a hand on Meiling's mouth "just come with me behind the counter i'll explain everything i promise"
Meiling was still a bit shell shocked from whatever happened the last couple of minutes but sensing no ill intent on Miyoi's qi and not really being in a state to run away she decides to comply
When they both got behind the counter Miyoi took a deep breath
"Okay, so about my ability..." that didn't seem like the most important thing to clarify right now but Meiling kept listening
"So i can kind of manipulate people's memories and dreams when they are drunk a little bit"
"But what does that have to do with...oh..."
"Ahaha sorry about that i was planning on going easy on you but you teased me for so long i lost control a bit"
Meiling must have looked hurt because when Miyoi looked at her she assumed an apologetic stance
"I'm very sorry i mean it! But i promise you it wasn't just to prank you, i needed to make sure that we could trust each other, this right here" She looked at all the youkai at the bar, is a bit of a delicate situation"
"The bar serves youkai?" Meiling could piece together that much
"Yes, it's a bit of a long story, and i'm really sorry i didn't tell you before, we are trying to keep this a secret from Reimu, if people find out that we do this Geidontei will be close down and she will definitely exterminate me"
"Wait that doesn't explain why i-"
"Hey can i get a refill here?"
"More food! More food!"

Miyoi looked split between doing her job and staying with Meiling
Meiling was still a bit mad about the whole thing, and she was starting to get worried about the Reimu thing, but looking at Miyoi like this made her think of the times she had to bend over backwards and do things she wasn't comfortable with for Remilia before Sakuya came around
"I'll handle the drinks you focus on the food okay?"
Miyoi simply hugged Meiling before heading to the kitchen

It was a bussy night, youkai are feistier than humans and the headache didn't make things easier but Miyoi ended up doing most of the work, she was still feeling a bit bad about what she did.
As the last patron Miyoi approached Meiling with a glass of water
"You still must have some questions right?"
"I did think of a few while we were working" Meiling gladly drank the water
"If you wanted to keep a secret then why did miss Suika kept showing up?"
"Two reasons, we were trying to ease you into the secret a bit, also she's kind of my boss so she wanted to make sure you were reliable by herself, also you would always run away before anyone else would show up, ah i guess that's three reasons, although we kind of meant for you to do that so you wouldn't find out, it's why i would try to do it right after all the humans left every night"
"You had the whole thing planned?"
"Suika and Mamizou did for the most part, they know how to get people to do things, in a non bad way! You can just leave if you want to just please keep this a secret!"
"It's okay i wasn't really going to, even if i wasn't too involved i don't think i would, the mistress isn't free of doing things under the table you know"
"I really don't think she's done anything too crazy"
"Oh?" Meiling looked smug "Did i ever tell you about the time she sent herself, Reimu, Sakuya and Marisa to the moon?"

Meiling and Miyoi spent the rest of the night telling stories

Her remaining time at Geidonte had passed by so fast she didn't even realize
"Are you sure you need to leave?" A smidge of loneliness could be felt in Miyoi's voice
Meiling had to admit she was a bit torn about leaving herself, perhaps taking on multiple temporary jobs wasn't the smartest idea.
"Oh? could it be that you fell for me?" Meiling tried to ask to lighten the mood, she's never been good with sad things.
"Ugh never mind you" Miyoi punched Meiling in the arm, at least that got her to smile "Could i at least give you a call during particularly busy nights?"
"Come on, it's not like i'm the only one that can help you with the bar" Meiling scratched the back of her head
"Not everyone can do it you know? Being able to stay nice to the unsavory patrons, listening to people's problems, having a pleasant attitude, i was surprised when you had no trouble doing it, most girls want to tear their hair out by the end of night one"
Meiling couldn't help but get bashful at Miyoi's observations

"Okay look!" Meiling had to stop her, if she kept going she really might end up switching jobs

Meiling couldn't help but feel a little defeated when she thought about it, this was supposed to be a one and done thing but she just couldn't help but be nice to others, especially those that went a bit underappreciated like her and to top it off she had a feeling Miyoi was starting to figure this out.

Behind Meiling with a big smile was the Prismriver drummer Horikawa Raiko, she's been giving her directions on where to place the band's instruments there was only the last speaker left but no matter how precisely Meiling followed Raiko's instructions she just couldn't get the right spot
"Mmhmhmhmhm just a little bit towards me now"
This has been going on for 20 minutes now, does this speaker really ne-wait
Meiling finally felt the playfulness in Raiko's qi as she turned around she noticed she was barely managing to hold her laughter back
As soon as they made eye contact Raiko finally broke
"Ahahahaha sorry sorry i couldn't help it"
When they first met Raiko came off as a mature and classy girl, and while that held true to some extent it seemed that Raiko enjoyed annoying those she felt comfortable with, she had gotten surprisingly good at hiding her intentions in her qi, after a few days of predicting her pranks she inexplicably became a lot subtler with her intentions
"Stop messing around Reiko we have to prepare back stage" Lunasa showed up to reprimand the drummer, she was usually the one to keep her under control "you come too Meiling, you can take a break there"
As they made their way in they were greeted by the rest of the sisters
"Big sisters! Sister Raiko!" Exclaimed Lyrica
"Hey..." Raiko sounded just a little hurt
Reiko wasn't the only one that Meiling grew on, it seemed the whole band enjoyed her company, while she couldn't play an instrument herself she was doing a really good job at carrying equipment around and after concerts she was quite good at helping everyone unwind, she was definitely not as good as Sakuya when it came to catering to playing maid but at the same time the prismrivers weren't as nearly as high maintenance as the mistress and the young mistress
"Sis help me brush my hair!" Merlin approached Meiling with a brush
"Aren't you being a bit clingy Merlin?" asked Lyrica also clutching a brush
"Sisters please" Interrupted Lunasa "Meiling just spent an hour moving equipment around, let her rest"
"No that's okay Lunasa, it's not a problem" Meiling began brushing Merlin's hair
"You are too nice for your own good sometimes you know?" Lunasa sighed
Not to be outdone Raiko approached Lyrica "Then i guess i'm doing yours sis" Lyrica was happy to accept, despite the teasing it was clear she liked Raiko too
"Well if you are going to do that then i'm going to check some things with miss Sannyo" Lunasa excused herself and left the room
Meiling and the rest of the sisters spent some time waiting for Lunasa to return, at some point they started a conversation about the songs they will play and in which order until Raiko suddenly interjected
"Ah! I just remembered i didn't test out the main microphone! Meiling could you please go check it out while we wait for Lunasa?"
"Oh sure what do i have to do?"
"Just poke it a bit and say something like test into it"

Dejected Meiling approached the mini fridge, it had mostly drinks on it, very fancy ones at that, she settled on one called Fluffy dream, it sounded like something that would calm her nerves
After being on stage for a mere couple of seconds she wondered how her sis- the prismrivers could spend hours on it playing songs without turning into nervous wrecks, she gained a new respect towards musicians that night.

As they arrived the band realized that there wasn't a local at all and the only thing to welcome them was a gang of all sorts of youkai within it
"I thought we sorted this out already" muttered Lunasa

"There's this band that is always second place to us, at one point they decided to send mobs after us to get rid of us"
"Hey!" Yelled Merlin "You can't be doing this anymore! We are under tengu protection!"
"This area is out of their influence ghost!" Exclaimed what looked like a tsuchigumo, her long spider legs protruding from her back, she slowly walked towards the band "How about you just lie down and let us end this quickly?" she said while pulling out a talisman? Where did she even get that?
"If the tengu don't get you the shrine maiden is going to get your ass for this!" replied Raiko
"For what? For Youkai killing youkai, we all know she doesn't give a shit!"
"He-hey" Meiling interrupted the spider "Look we don't have to make this turn violent, would you leave us alone if we just pay you?"
"Oh i don't know" the spider replied sarcastically "How about we just kill you all and take all your money"
She didn't want to but Meiling began to get serious
"If you try that i will have to protect us"
"That supposed to scare me red?"
"No, just make you make the right choice"

The spider swung the talisman at Meiling but she quickly grabbed her wrist and began applying pressure to it
A bit shocked and pained the spider used her other limbs to attack Meiling
Or that's what she was probably going to do, sadly for her, Meiling punched her in the face faster than she could try, sending her flying backwards burying her into a hill side like a nail
"Scatter!" Yelled what looked like a kappa
The rest of the gang quickly flew upwards
The prismrivers were getting ready for a fight but a force field materialized around them, they looked at Meiling in confusion, Meiling simple looked back at them and smiled
"I-i got it!" exclaimed a tengu "I know who this is! She's the guardian of that mansion! She punches like crazy but she sucks at danmaku!"
Meiling's eye twitched
Every single time with this!
"Is that so?" The aforementioned kappa asked with a grin
"You heard Papi! Rain hell on this bitch!"
From all directions, bullets flew at her in several patterns, some lasers and missiles where in the mixed too
There was no escape
The whole gang thought
Well something like that, Meiling couldn't read minds but she could feel the overconfidence on all their qis
Seriously, she has to dodge giant lasers and oceans of stars pretty much bi-daily, not to mention the knives materializing inches away from her face at a moments notice and then there's the mistress and her vampiric speed fast enough to do a lap around the moon within a second
Compared to that these clowns might as well be throwing balloons at her
As she flew upwards to position herself at the center of the gang attacking her she muttered
"Extreme color...VIVID. CHAOTIC. DANCE!"
The tornado of colors quickly engulfed the grunts, those who barely managed to avoid being trapped got hit by the rainbow of bullets shooting out of it and a few seconds after the twister disappeared leaving only Meiling floating cooly
Also she was a little dizzy but the prismrivers totally didn't notice
As she descended she dissipated the shield around her friends
"That was so cool big sis!" Exclaimed Lyrica
"That would be a really good special effect for our play" followed Merlin
"Why did you put us in that bubble? We would have helped you" Said Lunasa concerned
Meiling couldn't keep herself from smiling "Oh i wasn't protecting you from those guys, i was making sure my attack wouldn't hurt you, ahahahahahahaha-ow!"
Lunasa bonked Meiling in the head "Please control yourself from showing off, i fear Raiko is rubbing off on you"
"Hey! what did i do?" Raiko looked annoyed
Everyone laughed
"I guess they won't be bothering us for a long time, if ever" Lunasa pointed "I guess we better go to the tengu village to get some rest and report this" she put a hand on Meiling's shoulder "thanks for the help Meiling"

"Hey so" Raiko approached Meiling "would you like a side with that char siu?"

"Hey before you leave" Raiko presented some tickets to Meiling "those should be good until the end of next year so you have no excuse for not seeing our shows, bring some people with you too will you?"
"Trying to make money off of me Raiko?" Meiling Raised an eyebrow
Raiko just smiled and did finger guns at her
"Uh, big sis" Merlin approached "i made this for you" she presented a green and yellow scarf to her
D-don't cry Meiling "Thank you so much Merlin, this is gonna be great for the upcoming winter!" She ruffled Merlin hair
"It's gonna be lonely without you..." Lunasa commented
And just before she could reply the four girls embraced her in a group hug

And just like that the dam broke and Meiling began crying, soon the Prismrivers would join her
They would spend a couple minutes like this until Meiling finally gathered the strength to leave

The monkey girl chuckled "My friend, you will have the honor of being beaten up by the very incarnation of Sun Wukong"
Thankfully she did know how to fight after al-SUN WUKONG?!
"I'll take the dog junior!" Using her staff for a boost she leaped towards the dog spirit at lighting speed sending herself and him flying a couple feet away, the dog spirit seemed to have blocked the attacked as he barely stammered from the assault

Meiling assumed her fighting stance
At the sight of this the cow threw a massive straight towards her
Meiling barely had the time to dodge the attack as the cow flew past her blowing the doors in front of her off their hinges, it was like her fist was pulling the rest of her body
While she was still recovering from her own punch Meiling hit her on her side with a hook
It felt like she punched a wall, what is this girl an oni?!
Nevermind that, as soon as Meiling backed off a bit the cow began turning towards her assuming a familiar stance

The cow rushed Meiling her fist blocking the lower side of her face, she was going to go for a hook-NO UPPERCUT
The cows fist shaved the side of Meiling's face, this girl was really good with faints she thought

But the same trick won't work on her Meiling twice, especially not now that she's all warmed up

Meiling's fist connected squarely with the cowgirls stomach, pushing her backwards along with her opponent, the impact definetly broke some of Meiling's fingers, a sensation she felt oddly nostalgic for
The cow girl stammered back *cough* "N-nice one" and the she was out like a light

This is amazing! it's like a never ending martial arts tournament, just in one week she fought against boxing, muay thai, krav maga, wrestling, there even was an otter spirit that came at her with capoeira! She hadn't seen that style in ages! Oh and there was this dog girl with an eye patch that was just break dancing, she just spun around kicking people! How did she not loose her momentum when she hit someone?! Meiling wasn't sure if she got lost on her way to hell and ended in heaven anymore, it's just too good!

Distractions dealt with they finally headed for Yachie's office, well it was actually her house but Meiling should probably keep quiet about that, as they arrived at a rather humble looking home Biten knocked on the front door "Turtle soup tastes like shit!"
Biten must have noticed the confusion on Meiling's face because she quietly clarified "It's our secret phrase"
"Monkey meat is fille with disease!" a voice came from inside the house
"So you better eat something else!" Biten and the voice said in unison
And then footsteps began approaching the front door from the inside, a blonde woman shorter than Meiling by a forehead with a long dragon like tail wearing a suit similar to Biten's opened the door "Sonson!" She and Biten hugged "This is the part timer?" she nodded towards Meiling "Sure she is, it's like we have our own Saki now" Biten said while placing her hand on Meiling's shoulder...upper arm
"I'm not exactly sure if i'm completely okay with someone like Saki working with us"
"Nono Ki, she's also got the strength to back it up, she's been pummeling goons left and right from day one"
"Really now? Well first come in" They all walked in and went into the living room
"You girls want some snacks" Yachie asked while looking through a drawer
"You got banana chips?" Biten rapidly asked
"You're such a stereotype some times" Yachie responded while taking a bag of banana chips off the drawer

"Only one!"Yachie glared at Biten "that sent an application and hey if you're as good as the fleabag says then i guess everything turned out well for all of us, so..." she stood up and bowed "thank you for helping us out"
"Ah! It's not a problem really" Meiling also stood up and vowed "this has been a really fun job"
Eventually the conversation turned to chatter about random topics until the sun came down...wait why is there a sun down here?
"Alright you two, i gotta head back to my office and finish some paper work, take the rest of today and tomorrow, you two earned it, and by the bandages on you both you probably need it too" and with that Yacchie accompanied Meiling and Biten to her front door
"Aww i thought we were having a slumber party" Biten said in an innocent tone
"How about you take a bath first?" Yachie practically pushed Biten out of her house "Have a good night Meiling" she closed the door after forcing Biten out
"Haa, it's so easy to annoy her" Biten said triumphantly
"Should you really be so rude to her? I thought she was your superior"
"Nah, she owes me after feeding me a certain lie, and you are the one to talk miss you feel desperate" the monkey girl looked smug

They flew for a bit until they got to the outskirts of the city and then when they landed they were facing each other on an empty field in the middle of nowhere
"Pretty nice huh? Bet you didn't think this city had places like this"
"It's definitely a surprise" Meiling could see the streetlights in the distance
Biten clapped her hands"So!" Right after she said that she fired a barrage of bullets at Meiling
Begrudgingly Meiling began dodging them, doing her best to to hit her but Biten was so annoyingly agile
"Come on junior! You won't get me to stop if you don't hit me!"
"I'm trying!" Meiling was really getting frustrated now, Biten was keeping herself perfectly distanced from her no matter what she did

"This isn't what i was expecting when you told me you'd teach me something!"

Meiling began her usual routine of firing few projectiles while mostly trying to keep herself shielded from the harder patterns by kicking out barriers and forming shields, she would use this strategy on Marisa, hoping Biten would run out of gas and leave an opening similarly to the magician

Meiling gained some reprieve from the bullet assault however after she was finished with her attack she was frustrated to notice Biten was unscathed
"Alright, that's enough i've got an idea"
Meiling slowly descended towards her "What do you have in mind?"
"That tornado you use-"
"No"
"What?"
"I've already tried that, i can only spin for so long and a tornado that big takes a lot of qi"
Biten chuckled "Not even what i was going to say junior and you don't have to spin you know" she stood in front of Meiling and extended her arm towards her "hold my hand"

"you threw a tiny tornado with a kick earlier, you think you can do that with your arm?"

"Focus junior" Biten's demeanor turned very mature all of the sudden
Meiling looked at her a little confused but complied and launched some spiral qi out of her arm, to her surprised Biten caught it on her own arm and kept it spinning

"Correct! That's exactly why you should be embarrassed that you didn't think of doing what i'm about to do on your own, have you never noticed what happens when you do your big dumb tornado?"
"Hey!" It wasn't THAT dumb
Biten fired a bullet at the small tornado spinning around her arm, and then another and another
It took her a second but Meiling finally understood what Biten was getting at and then she felt very embarrassed
The bullets where orbiting around the qi ring, it almost looked like otherworldly jewelry, then she pointed her arm at the sky and fire the bullets out of the qi bracelet
"Wait! You can do that"
"To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy, You can do it too, but your resentment keeps you from doing it"
Why was Biten so wise all of the sudden?
"Your turn" Biten pointed her palm at her
Meiling took a deep breath and imitated what she saw Biten do
"Alright, here it comes"
Biten's bullet made Meiling's qi immediately explode around her arm making her recoil a bit
"Stop being mad at bullets junior"
But bullets are bullshit! It's not...
She took another deep breath and then tried once more
This time the bullet was redirected almost hitting Meiling in the face
"You're still fighting...mmh okay, how about this? Close your eyes, i promise i will aim at your arm"
Meiling closed her eyes if a bit nervously
"Now, think of me punching your arm, don't think of a bullet"
That didn't sound too bad...just block the punch..

Meiling saw a bullet spinning around her arm along with her qi, as she began to smile the bullet went flying at her face knocking her on her ass

That night was also a long night and while not her favorite it was nice

Meiling woke up at the bed in Biten's house, a few seconds after waking up she recalled the events of last night, she spent all night learning to deflect all types of projectiles until she passed out from exhaustion, she had been woken up by the smell of bacon, she was positively starving after last night so she mad her way to the kitchen
"That woke you up" Biten was preparing some breakfast at the stove "You have some nerve getting your boss to carry your fat tits all the way to your bed"
Meiling winced "i'm sorry boss, i didn't even realize i was going to pass out, is there any way i can make it up for you?"
"You'll make it up to me alright, for starters you better use what i taught you and you better not slack off on practicing either"

"And second i want some breakfast and maybe lunch and dinner too depending on my mood" Biten sat down at her dinner table with her feet resting on it

Meiling could have complained about her boss being too rough with her but decided to just get cooking, she was too hungry and tired to put breakfast off with a discussion

"Something relaxing maybe?" as fun as the last few days have been, Meiling had to admit the soreness on her whole body was getting a bit impossible to ignore

Maybe she should take a little time before the next job to check on everyone...no she shouldn't put off the other jobs she applied for, however she will definitely carry a note telling her to never take multiple jobs ever again with her from now on
"Here you go boss" Meiling place a plate down in front of Biten and another on the opposite side
"Holy shit junior!" Biten was visibly shocked after taking a bite "what di you put in this? How did you make this so good?"
"Just some stuff i found on the kitchen" it was nice that she had yet to meet someone that disliked her food

Meiling and Biten arrived at some sort of rustic building at the outskirts of the city, Meiling was starting to think Biten didn't exactly like the city life that much

As they entered the building, Meiling quickly realized this was a sauna and began to get a bit fidgety
"The biggest public room you got please" Biten said while approaching the counter
"WHAT?!" Meiling came here to relax! Not for a panic attack!
Biten pointed and laughed at Meiling "Hahahahahahah! Aah i'm joking junior settle down" she turned to the girl at the counter "get us a private one"
Meiling definitely had to get Biten back at some point, it's like that girl wanted to piss off everyone she met
"Okay thanks. Junior let's go to the dressing room" Biten waved Meiling to follow her
"This wasn't exactly what i was expecting when you said something relaxing"

Biten looked around and then got closer to Meiling "Let's talk about it we are alone"
Meiling was the first to enter the sauna, Biten went to get some booze before entering.
While not what she wanted she had to admit the steam was doing wonders on her body, she was having so much fun she hardly realized how badly she needed a break, just sitting there made her feel like her whole body was turning into clouds, she actually started nodding off a bit, thankfully Biten entered the room before she fell asleep
"Wow, you're wearing a towel, so you do have shame"

Biten was just looking at her, shock written all over her face
Realizing that she indeed say that, Meiling slowly tried to make some distance between her and Biten

"She really thinks i can pull it off?"
"Well first she wants to fight you herself just to measure you or whatever, personally i think you'll do great, but hey, it's up to you, we aren't going to force you"

It took some effort but Meiling managed to dodge out of the way as she tried to clear out some of the tar Meiling opened her mouth to ask to ask the boss what she was doing but then she felt it
Malice. It's like it was oozing out of Yachie, she's doing this on purpose! She's cheating!

"Sounds like you figured me out" Yachie flashed Meiling an evil grin, she swung her tail again to launch some of the tar towards her.
Fine! Meiling thought If that's how she wants to fight then Meiling is not going to pull her punches on her! She tried to jump away from the tar but as she did Yachie reached for something on the floor and began pulling it, those were strings!
She felt herself loose her balance again as her feet got stuck on the string, unable to move the ball of tar hit her on the face blinding her.
And at that moment Meiling's desire to fight was gone. Now all she wanted was to punch Yachie in the face as hard as she could muster.
While she tried to wipe the tar off her face she felt Yachie's qi approaching
"Don't tell me i already won, you are making Biten look bad and she doesn't need anyone to do that for her"
Meiling heard the sound of her tail swinging and managed to dodge her, as she landed one of her feet almost getting stuck in one of the small holes scattered around the ground
"Good you still can fight, you scared me for a second"
The damn tar wasn't coming off her eyes!...relax Meiling, she took a deep breath and got into her stance
"Sorry junior, that's not gonna turn me stupid and make me jump you"
"Not again" she muttered
Just as Yachie finished saying that Meiling reached for her feet and as she felt some strings she pulled them with all her night, she heard snapping all around her but most importantly
"Fuck!" She felt Yachie drop to the ground, she quickly stepped forwards and launched a punch on her general direction
"Gu-GOOOOOH" Meiling's fist hit something, definitely not a face, probably a stomach and after that she heard the sound of Yachie flying backwards into a wall.

It seems Yachie was exactly much of a brawler, she was struggling to stand back up after that single hit

Finished cleaning up her face Meiling rushed Yachie as best as she could despite the holes while Yachie loaded on of the balls and fired it at a wall to her side, this time Meiling didn't even have time to question what she was doing when the same ball hit her on her arm, it was more tar! What was it with this girl and tar?! Meiling picked up the pace as much as she could while Yacchie kept firing these seemingly homing projectiles, Meiling dodged some but more and more where piling up on her sides until she barely could move her arms she leapt at Yachie for a drop kick but she jumped out of the way, as she did she fired one final tar balloon at on of her feet anchoring Meiling to ground.
Yachie wasn't done recovering from the hit as she quickly loss balance when she landed and fell while holding her stomach
"Aah breaking your boss' ribs, someone's got to punish you for that Meiling" Yachie stammered to her feet and from her pocket she pulled a knife, she held it by the tip for a second before throwing it at Meiling's face, in a split second Meiling freed her foot from her tarred sock and caught the blade between her toes before it reached her between the eyes
*whistle* "You ever thought at working at a cabaret? You'd get plenty of clients with legs like tho-AH! Motherfucker!"
Meling threw the knife back at Yachie by swinging her leg down with all her strength, it was a little hard to aim but she managed to hit her on her shoulder, Yachie fell to her knees defeated, and then she grabbed a smoke bomb from the ground and threw it at Meiling, she was blinded again.
She felt Yachie leap towards her again, Meiling still really wanted to punt a dent on her jaw but her arms where pretty much out of the picture, as she felt Yachie's tail come closer she dodged it gracefully, if she couldn't punch her in the face then she will just have to use her forbidden technique...
Meiling waited for the smoke to dissipate, she wanted Yachie to see what hit her, Yachie herself was helplessly swinging her tail around, her injuries were making her a lot slower
The air was clear again, one last time Yachie swung her tail at Meiling with all her might, Meiling dodged it, got right up to Yachie's face and then...

Finally snapping from her rage trance Mailing realized what she just did "I-i didn't meant to"
"Oh don't worry about it, i bit one of her tits back when she pulled that on me, she'll bounce back after resting a bit, she knows she has no right to complain when someone cheats back at her. Anyways, you got take a shower, from the backyard door go to the left at the end of the corridor, just grab one of her bath robes when you're done" as she got most of the tar off one of meiling's arms she handed her the towel and began walking towards Yachie "Come on ki, let's get you to the hospital"
"Just let me die..." Yachie sounded dead inside already
"You know people would stop doing these things to you if you stopped cheating, now get your ass up!"
As Meiling head for the bathroom she couldn't help but feel bad for what she did, she should find a way to make it up to Yachie at some point

"Good you're still there" Meiling thanked every god she knew when she realized it was Biten "listen, Yachie is getting patched up but she's gonna have to stay here for a few hours to recover, so look after the house will you?"
"Sure, i can't really go anywhere in a bathrobe"
"Careful not to get attacked by a Spanish claw assassin"

"Dammit, i thought you would get that one, whatever, could you cook something up while you're there? We are probably going to be back by dinner"

It took her the rest of the day but Meiling used every ingredient at her disposal to make the nicest dinner possible and right on time too, as everything was almost done she heard knocking on the door, she quickly rushed to open it but right as she was going to touch the doorknob she heard something

Meiling opened the door, Biten was looking at her with a knowing smile "You almost fucked up"
Ignoring her Meiling directed her attention to Yachie "Boss! Are you feeling better? Come on in please"
"Still a bit sore thank you" yachie replied stifly "Fixing ribs up isn't exactly cheeeeee-are you cooking something?" any ounce of resentment she had left dissipated as she entered her house
"Just a nice diner for my boss" Meiling replied while serving the several dishes she had been preparing "Please eat up, there's plenty!"
Yachie trying to regain her seriousness sat down and began tasting the food, not long after a smile began growing in her face as she began eating quicker and quicker

Meiling and Biten did the same while Yachie left some money on the table, they all stood up and began walking towards the casino, several eagle spirits flying out of the establishment, she also saw what seemed like a girl with bear traps on her arms launch something purple out of the ground floor with similar strength

Remembering all the comparisons to her Meiling decided to be upfront about her arrival, it's what she would like to hear "I'm here on behalf of the kiketsu Family"

*Boss!* a transmitter interrupted *It's Yacchie Kicchou and her right hand! They're at the main flo-* the transmitter cut off
"Oh, that snake! Missy, i don't know what that punk told you but you'd be smart not to get in my way to deal with her"

"Your loss miss" Yachie dashed towards Meiling.
Meiling did the same, their fists clashing as met Saki seemed slightly shocked at this occurrence but quickly regained her composure and went for a hook with her free hand, Meiling leaned backwards to dodge it and aimed her fist for Saki's face, for a second Meiling thought her attack landed but it was just one of her knuckles shaving past Saki's cheek, Seeing this Meiling instinctively sidestepped expecting a gut punch, she was correct.
Both fighters took a second to fully dissipate the momentum of their attacks staring each other in the eye all the while.
They shared a smile, no need for words, they both understood what was going on, and then they rushed at each other again.
their shins connected with each other with enough force to cause a shock wave, utilizing the recoil of the other's strike their fists clashed with each other next, for Meiling, it was as if she was fighting a mirror, a mirror made of diamonds, both of their punches were getting quicker and quicker, clashing every time without fail, the massiveness of the pain on Meiling's knuckles was only second to the disappointment she was going to feel for herself if she stopped throwing punches.

As both of their faces grew red and their hands began bleeding they decided to finish their clash with another kick, they both lost their balance after being unable to withstand the impact and stammered back catching their breath for a second, Saki had a big dumb smile on her face as she panted lightly, Meiling didn't need a mirror to tell she was doing the same, she didn't even felt the pain on her limbs, it's as if she entered a trance.
They both stepped forward again, this time interlocking hands, grinning at each other they began butting head over and over until both of their foreheads were bleeding, Saki broke free from Meiling's hands put her arm on top of the back of her neck

Meiling barely caught herself from the fall with her lower legs, noticing this Saki quickly let go of her and slid away, while Meiling span to push herself back up, when she did Saki was looking at her frustrated.
Meiling gave her a cheeky smile and waggled a finger at her, they both dashed forward, Saki dashed forward for a punch, this time Meiling stood her ground and blocked the attack with her elbow, Saki was clearly not expecting this as she recoiled back holding her hand, Meiling took the opportunity to dash behind her and grab her by the torso with her arms, then Meiling arched her back backwards

Meiling heard the air being knocked out of Saki's lungs as her back connected with the floor, not satisfied with just one, Meiling did a back flip still holding Saki to set up another German suplex, and another and another, finally she went for a final back flip but this time she turned Saki around and finished her with a power bomb breaking the tiles underneath Saki as she slammed her into it.
Meiling gasped for air and sat on the floor for a second panting heavily, for a girl smaller than her Saki was quite heavy, before the adrenaline wore off Meiling stood up and began walking towards what she hoped where the building's stairs

Saki was standing there clearly worn out but still sporting a big dumb smile on her face

She then got on a muay thai stance
Meiling marched right back towards Saki mimicking her stance once she got close enough, Saki went for a punch, Meiling attempted to block it with her elbow again only to notice another elbow clashing with hers, not expecting Saki not expecting Saki to do that Meiling didn't have enough time to block the oncoming kick to her head *thwack* Meiling began seeing stars and was trying really hard not to fall on her side, Saki made Meiling's balancing even harder when she clung to her torso using her legs, Meiling tried to push her off but then she felt an elbow crash on the top of her head. Boxing, sumo, capoeira, even a little dance battle intermission, kung fu, karate, it's as if a pair of strangers sat down to listen to songs together, just sharing their love for something they both loved, showing each other new things about each genre, surprising each other every time, neither of them knew how long they spent in that room but that's okay, the rest of the world can do without them for a while.
Finally both stood there trembling, neither able to lift their arms or take a step, both covered in blood and bruises and despite all, still smiling, it was the final "round", all they could do was wait for the other to fall.
"haaa...i-if only Yuuma..." before she could finish Saki dropped unconscious
"Someday well have a rematch i promise" Meiling dropped to her hands and knees, with the fight over, what little adrenaline Meiling had left was gone and with that the pain on her whole body caught up with her

Meiling awoke to the sound of beeping, she was trying to recall the events before she lost consciousness when she was suddenly reminded by the aching across her entire being, she tried to move around but found it difficult, trying to look around she noticed what she could see of her body covered on bandages, her legs where being hung high and from whet she felt so where her arms, she attempted to talk but felt a sharp pain on her lower jaw and a similar binding sensation over her face, normally the situation would be quite frustrating for Meiling, however the reason she was in that position made it all worth it, she was certainly satisfied

"You ARE giving her the best treatment right?" That voice she recognized Ki must be with this stranger

Now ki got in Meiling's vision, she sat down on the side of the bed "how you doing Meimei?"

Meiling definitely got the premium treatment on that hospital, she almost felt like a princess during her stay, by the end of the first day she was already feeling a lot better, and by afternoon on the second she had fully recovered, if a little sore, after expressing her gratitude to the staff she headed for the casino.
As she neared the building she quickly scanned around it, thankfully no signs of eagles and wolves as far as she could tell
Plenty of otters she however, she noticed while walking towards the entrance, the place look well taken care of and full of customers, almost as if there never was a Yakuza war that took place inside a few days ago.
As she entered she noticed all the otters where staring at her one of them stood in front of her staring intensely, until suddenly a wave of surprise poured our of his face, he quickly stood to attention "Lady Hong"

"Lady Yachie and Biten are waiting for you on room 666 at the very top of the casino, please use the elevator with gold engraving maam!" the otter stood there firmly

This was certainly a lot more luxurious than what she saw on Sonson and Ki's houses, hopefully it won't get to their heads but Meiling had faith on them, despite everything they both proved to be dedicated leaders where it counts

Some time later after Ki calmed down, everyone gathered around a table, on it three glasses and a bottle of cobalt velvet, Ki raised her glass "to Meimei, we couldn't be sitting her if it wasn't for you" Sonson raised her glass as well, Bashfully Meiling followed soon after

The point is i've been doing this for a while i guess" Meiling took a sip from her glass

"MEILING!" Screamed an aggravated Ki "IF I LET YOU TAKE THESE TAPES WITH YOU WOULD YOU HAVE MERCY ON US AND STOP?!"
The morning after the three of them woke up in the middle of what looked like a tornado after going through a bar and a Chinese restaurant, they were all quite tired but thankfully Sonson had booked a visit to a high class spa for the three of them, it was a much nicer day that day, the rest of Meiling's days on animal hell would be quite uneventful besides trying to make Ki and Sonson control themselves with heir spending until finally the day had come.
The three of them stood in front of a portal "So this will send me back to the surface?" Meiling asked
"Yeah, should put you somewhere near the entrance to the underworld, sorry if we can't get you anywhere else" ki replied
"Sorry we couldn't get find a better place, the underworld is the closest to animal hell" Sonson added
"Hey before i forget" Ki took and envelope from her pocket and handed it to Meiling "I acknowledge i couldn't convince you to stay but here, if you ever need a roof over your head just open this and you'll be sent to me"
"How romantic~" Sonson added and was swiftly elbowed in the head by Ki
"It's...going to get lonely without you" Ki commented
Meiling teared up a bit "There were some hardships, but it was a lot of fun because we were in it together"

While a bit frustrating Meiling couldn't deny that she had yet another place she had to come back to at some point

Meiling knocked on the door of a house in the middle of the forest of magic, seeing all the nature and natural sunlight around after her last job took a bit getting used to
"I'll be there in a second" a familiar voice along with some rummaging could be heard from within
A minute later the door swung open, a blonde girl wearing a blue dress opened the door "I'm so sorry for the wait, i making some-Meiling? Does Patchy need anything? Usually she sends Koakuma"
Meiling waved "don't worry, this isn't about miss Patchouli, i'm here for that flyer you put on the village board"

"Yes, you know the Moriyas i'm sure, halloween is coming up and the shrine maiden really wanted to get some sort of haunted mansion going on, apparently she asked every other magician for help on her project and i was the only one that said yes and also the last one she asked" Alice looked a upset saying that last part
Trying to distract from the subject Meiling asked "So you're going to make some potions?"
"I thought about that, but i might get in trouble if i end up turning a kid purple or something so instead i'm going to put together an illusion spell that will give the area around the house a very otherworldy look, it will also give those i choose to a monster like look"

"Just Alice is fine Meiling and thank you, Sanae liked it as well"

"To prove that girl i shouldn't be her last choice, just because i don't make a showcase of myself constantly like Marisa and the Buddhist leader doesn't mean i'm incapable of doing what they do but i digress, i put up that flyer up to see if i could get someone to gather materials from the least dangerous areas while i went to the less human friendly ones myself, but since you're here and i doubt anyone else is going to show up at some point i suppose it's best if we simply gather them together instead"
"If you'd like i can go to the more dangerous areas, i've got no problem with that"
"Most of those dangerous areas also need...appointments, so i must be there regardless, if you show up all by yourself there you might end up getting sent bag to your mansion in a body bag" Alice sipped her tea "i kid of course but i still need to be there"
Meiling laughed nervously
"Well then let's start with the easy ones, once we are done we'll drop the ingredients here and go after the harder ones" Alice stood up, some of her dolls began cleaning the table up

Both girl had bee flying for a while, the silence briefly interrupted by sporadic exchanges here and there.
Alice was certainly different from her previous clients, she wasn't very talkative, not that this was a bad thing, Meiling had spent so long doing talking on all of her other jobs that the silence was a little hard to get used to.
They arrived at the village, briefly Meiling thought of visiting Geidontei but ultimately chose not to, Miyoi might end up begging her to stay and Meiling wasn't sure if she'd be capable of saying no, instead Meiling simply followed Alice to different shops scattered across the village, Meiling was pulling in some stares as she carried a small stack of boxes over her head around, from what she bought it looked more like she was going to bake dozens of pies instead of creating a spell but then again Meiling was no magician.

"We are making good time!" Alice looked happy "there's only one more ingredient left in the village and then we can move to the next area, this way!" Meiling followed Alice through a few increasingly familiar streets...wait a second.
Alice was now heading directly towards Geidontei "need a break Meiling?" she turned "don't worry the last shop is right here, we can rest for a while in it"
"N-no, just thought i saw something haha" Meiling and Alice entered the bar
"Welcome to Geidontei what can i oh? Meiling is that you?" the oldman running the bar was cooking some food when she noticed her
"Hi mister Tei how have you been?" Meiling greeted him
"Same as usual young girl, what about you? You're here for more work? is the lady with you also interested?"
"N-no" Alice interrupted "we are just doing some b-bussines around town" she seemed a bit nervous now "A-anyways we would like.. uh y-yakitori! Yes!"
"Oh, sure young lady" the man walked into the kitchen
Alice sat down with her hands on her face, after placing the boxes out of the way Meiling sat next to her "Are you okay Alice?"
"YEAH! I-i mean yes, i'm fine don't worry" she fixed her hair "our last vendor should be here any second"
"Oh i thought alcohol was the last ingredient"
"She knows i'm not good with these places" Alice frowned "let's just hope she shows up soon, unlike with the ingredients i have to pay for this meal myself"
"We can split if you like"
"It's fine, don't worry about it" Alice paused for a second "just try to eat slow please"
The door bell rang, making both girl turn towards her

"I'm baaack~ boss the tailor shop owner asked if-" A girl wearing a whale hat locked eyes with Meiling "Meiling!" Miyoi ran towards her ex coworker and hugged her "you're back~ are you here to help me out again?"
Meiling hugged back "Sorry Miyoi, i'm here for another job" and gently tried to push her off
Miyoi clung harder "Awww, at least work today's shift with me, for old time's sake"
"U-uhm" Alice interrupted "please leave my employee alone"
"That's okay you can work here too" Miyoi let go of Meiling
"N-no thanks" Alice began loosing her composure again
"Don't be like that~ i'm sure we can reach an arrangement"
Alice was about to reply but was interrupted by Mr Tei "Miyoi stop harassing the clients, what did the tailor shop owner say?"

Alice listened as Meiling and Miyoi caught up on what they've been doing for a few minutes, Meiling kept the more violent parts out to not worry Miyoi, eventually the doorbell rang again, this time a brunette with an extravagant smoking pipe and glasses "Welcome miss, what can i get you" Miyoi greeted her
"Just the usual Miyoi" the woman sat next to Alice "And what's this? Meiling is back?"
"She is!" Miyoi affirmed
"I'm not, sorry" Meiling corrected
Miyoi pouted
"Took you long enough Mamizou, you said you'd be here as soon as i entered the bar" Alice was staring the disguised tanuki down
"You need to socialize a bit, you are going to go crazy isolating yourself in that house" Mamizou smiled at Alice
"That's for me to decide and since when do you of all people care?"
"Just being a friendly neighbor"
Alice groaned "never mind this, do you have the ingredient?"
"Do you have the tobacco?" Mamizou asked back
Alice rolled her eyes and placed a bag in front of Mamizou, the tanuki put some of the contents on her pipe and began smoking "I've got to give it to you, your mom has some good connections"
"I told you to stop calling her that, she's not my mom, now do you have the ingredient?"
"Fine fine" Mamizou place an almost angelic looking flower in front of Alice "do try to enjoy yourself a bit before leaving young girl, you're in a bar after all"
"Not while you're smoking all over the food" Alice put the flower in a bag "come on Meiling, we should go"
"What? Come on don't leave yet, at least have a drink first"
"No thanks" Meiling and Alice said in unison
Miyoi pouted again
"I'll be back when i'm less busy okay?" Meiling reassured Miyoi

Meiling and Alice arrived at a shop somewhere between the human village and the forest of magic, she didn't even knew there was one around here, they entered the building and were immediately greeted by a young girl wearing particularly strange clothes "Lizzy!" she perked up when she noticed Alice "It's been so long since i saw you! How have you been?" she began clinging to Alice
"S-sumireko please" Alice gently tried to free herself "Is Rinnosuke here?"
Sumireko let go of Alice "Yeah, he's on the back, i'll go get him" she looked as she was going to walk away but stopped and turned her gaze towards Meiling "mmmh, i don't think i've seen you before"
Meiling didn't recall seeing this girl the last time she was here either
"This is Hong Meiling, from the scarlet devil mansion" Alice introduced
Sumireko gasped "She's a vampire?!" She now clung to Meiling "can you eat garlic? How can you walk out on daylight? Can i see your fangs?!" the girl bombarded Meiling with questions
"Actually i'm not a vampire" Meiling finally managed to intervene

"She's...energetic" Meiling commented
"Apparently she's from the outside world" Alice explained "I don't know the full story but it has something to do with lunarians trying to take over Gensokyo, but according to Reimu the issue was sorted so now she just sort of shows up whenever she's sleeping on the outside world and i guess at some point she took a part time job here at Kourindou"
"She seems to like you" Meiling commented
"I-i guess" Alice looked away "she showed me some dolls and puppets from the outside world so i can't complain"
The door Sumireko left through opened again "sorry for the wait, i was checking some inventory" a man with white hair and glasses entered the room "Alice, you're here for the bone dust? And" he looked at Meiling "Miss Meiling, are you here for the tape?
"Still working on the money" Meiling signaled towards Alice
"I see, i didn't think you were still working for it, well don't worry no one else has asked for it so far"
That's relieving at least "thanks"
"Maybe we could work out a discount if you could answer me some questions i had about vampire anatomy i've been trying to figure out"

A few minutes passed and he's pretty much rummaged through half of the shop, Sumireko joined in at some point to help and then walked into another room to look after a while, there was also this...dog? walking around the shop trying to find it
"You sold it to someone else didn't you?" Alice chastised
"N-no i just did some sorting the other day and missplaced it!" Rinnosuke stammered
Trying to lighten things up Meiling interrumpted "Maybe Marisa took it from her brother haha"
Rinnosuke looked at Meiling confused and then frowned at Alice "again with this?"
Alice shrugged "It's not as if i'm lying"
Rinnosuke massaged his temples "please stop giving people the wrong idea, miss Kotohime already brought her to me after arresting her once"
"Somebody has to discipline her" Alice smiled
Sumireko entered the room "Mr Suke! I found it!" she handed over a bag to Alice
"There, i told you i didn't sell it" Rinnosuke crossed his arms
"Yes, it only took you an hour to find where it was" Alice sassed back
"Always so pleasant" he commented
Alice handed Rinnosuke an envelop "here, a bonus" and then began heading outside

They both landed on a small clearing in the forest, Meiling placed the boxes down and darted back towards Kourindou

"...about this piece? It looks interesting enough" Meiling caught some of the conversation between Sakuya and Rinnosuke as she was sneaking into the building, thankfully it was dark enough for her to hide easily
"That is a space gun, well not actually a sapce gun, you fill it with boiling water and it fires rings of steam that you can shoot the lasers through"
"Not enough i'm afraid, it would probably last milady a few minutes before it bored her" Sakuya placed the toy where she found it and grabbed a colorful band "what does this even do?" she asked
"That is a slap band, it coils around your arm when you slap one extreme of it on your arm"
Sakuya placed it back "perhaps i'm going about this the wrong way" she looked around and spotted a familiar vhs tape "what is this movie about?"
Meiling began panicking
Rinnosuke began describing "Oh, well it's a movie adaptation of this series involving..." Rinnosuke's gaze moved towards Meiling, she snuck behind Sakuya and began making negative and pleading motions
*snrk* he almost burst out laughing
"Is it a comedy movie? I'm not sure milady's refined tastes would appreciate a comedy movie"
"Ah! Y-yes!" Rinnosuke affirmed "Very childish, and very crass, i don't think miss Remilia may like it"

Meiling sighed in relief
"Mmh?" Sakuya began to turn but Rinnosuke rushed to stop her
"Actually! I just thought of the perfect gift for miss Remilia" he opened a cabinet and took a fancy box out "this is quite the fancy gift" he opened it "with this collection of beautiful wine glasses you will have different options for any kind of wine"
Meiling took the opportunity to sneak back into the shadows
Sakuya looked into the box "this is perfect, why didn't you offer me this to begin with?"
"Uuuh, i-i just forgot until now haha, i'm so sorry miss Sakuya, i'm so scatterbrained"
"Disregard that, how much?"
"The usual price Miss Sakuya, it's the least i can do for keeping you so long"
Sakuya handed over some money and took the box outside with here, after waiting for her to fly away Meiling came out of hiding "I'm so sorry about that mister Rinnosuke"
"It's fine, i was thinking of ways to make her leave, she's a bit unnerving"
"Yeah, she can be a bit intense"
"You must really want that tape if you're going this far to keep it to yourself"
"I'm planning on buying it for milady, she secretly really likes that series and i really want to do something nice for her"
"I see, you know if you want i can sell it to you for whatever much you have, i didn't knew it meant that much to you"

"That's okay, actually i was going to buy it from you at full price tomorrow, i got a pretty big bonus from the last job i did"

Meiling began sweating "y-you know, i just been a bit distracted" Meiling began walking away "j-just please keep it safe for me until tomorrow please, i'll put in some extra"
"I suppose you must have a good reason for doing it and while i would love to find out what it is i believe we both have things to do but don't worry, i'll keep it off shelves all day tomorrow"
Meiling laughed awkwardly again, bowed and ran outside towards Alice

There was a small fire where Alice was, expecting the worst Meiling approached the clearing stealthily
She noticed Alice sitting with a small blonde girl in a black dress, Meiling could have sworn she saw her before, as soon as the girl devoured a large piece of meat in one bite it all clicked, it was Rumia, the youkai that would sometimes play with the fairies surrounding the mansion, as soon as she swallowed she began to fly away "thanks Alice" she waved at the magician before flying away, Alice waved back with a smile.
Out of consideration Meiling pretended she just got there "Alice, sorry i took so long, let's get going" she began picking up the boxes
Alice put the fires out "did you stop her at least? I saw her flying by a few minutes ago"
"Yes, it's all sorted, if it's okay i will come back to Kourindou somewhere in the morning, but i'll be back as soon as i can"
Finally the two of them got home, a light dinner later, Meiling flopped onto the guest bed, today was oddly tiring.

As early as she could Meiling went back to buy the tape and head back to Alice, as she flew there she couldn't help but feel a pressure on her chest, no she wasn't, she was focusing on what she had to do today, Alice said they would be going to the more dangerous places today so maybe she should practice a bit before Alice woke up
She landed near the house, placed the tape down, she took a deep breath and began practicing some kicks.

This was exactly what Meiling needed, if she would be stressed out about something this was definitely perfect to help her relax
Meiling picked the phase, the strength and speed of her attacks cutting through the air, maybe she could throw some stuff into the air and punch it or maybe she could split a rock in half!

Alice was standing behind Meiling "do you always do this in the morning?"
"Sorry Alice, i was just practicing for today, we got to go to dangerous places right?" Meiling began stretching

"I know i said they were dangerous but it's not as if we are going to the lunar capital, you didn't have to get up as soon as the sun came out" Alice noticed the tape on the ground "this was what you were going to buy?"
"Wait don't touch that! it's delicate!" Meiling ran towards Alice
"This thing is only 3000 yen"
Meiling took it from her hands "n-no it's not! It's a rare one of a kind a-apparatus and it's worth millions!"
Alice was starting to get concerned at this point "are you feeling okay Meiling?"
"Yes! i'm perfectly fine! Nothing is wrong!" Meiling was breathing heavily
Suddenly several dolls clung to Meiling preventing her from moving, she struggled for a bit until eventually she calmed down
"Let's get you in" Alice walked into her home followed by the swarm of dolls carrying Meiling

A few moments later Alice freed Meiling and got her to sit on her couch
"Meiling i know it's none of my business at the end of the day, but if you've got a problem you need to deal with, then maybe you should do something about it instead of this"
"No, i can do this, i was just a little tired that's all"
"Do you really not need to get something out of your chest?" Alice stared at Meiling and remained quiet, the pressure Meiling felt was somehow larger than what she felt from Yachie

Meiing finally couldn't take it anymore "it's just! I...do you promise you won't laugh"
"Meiling, i'm sure by now you already know i'm not the type to laugh at others"
"...i knew i didn't need to pick up all these jobs to buy that stupid thing" she pointed at the tape on the table in front of her "i wanted to do something"

"It's the rest of the mansion! They always get to do stuff! Sakuya goes out there and solves incidents, sometimes Remilia tags along or she causes incidents! And then there is Flandre, apparently one day she just went and waltzed into the fiery depths of hell to solve an incident! I didn't even knew that happened after it was over! Even Patchouli! One day i heard that she was going to help Marisa solve and incident, and then the kappa shows up to the mansion and then" she points at Alice "you! You showed up to help too! But what do i get?!"

Meiling stood up and started walking around "i have to deal with intruders all the time and i basically have to fight them with my arms tied behind my because APPARENTLY it's against the rules for me to just fight them without making a show out of it! And because i that i have to jump through several hoops just to do my job! And then in return i just get made fun of like i didn't spends centuries breaking my back training! And it get even better! One day a fucking ghost starts possessing people around the mansion! I could have helped with that ghost! But no one told me anything and then i just wake up three days later and the ghost is gone!"

"Then the tape-"
"The tape doesn't matter!" Meiling began to settle down "It, it does matter but it was never the main reason i did this, i don't even think Remilia is going to care that much" she sat down "it just feels like i don't exist... while i'm stuck standing in front of the mansion everyone gets to go on adventures and do things" tears began escaping her eyes "i-i wanna have adventures too"
Alice handed some tissues to Meiling "i'm sorry for pressing you on this i didn't think it was so per-guh"
Meiling clung to Alice and began crying uncontrollably

About 20 minutes later Meiling finally let Alice go "i'm so sorry, i don't know what took over me"
"You screamed a pretty decent explanation to me a while ago" a doll approached Alice with a trail "tea?"
"Y-yes thank you" Meiling began drinking
"I don't think you did anything wrong Meiling, i can't imagine anyone holding it against you if you wanted to do what everyone else is doing"
"I know that it's just, i don't know why, at some point i got it in my head that i needed a good reason to and at some point i got desperate and came up with this stupid idea and because i have the damn tape on me now i thought that i had to stop doing this and now i feel like a huge dumbass when i'm saying this out loud"
"No, i know what you mean, just walking going on a journey for nothing is a little weird isn't it?"
Mailing responded with a tired chuckle "hey Alice?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for listening to me, i did need to get out of the mansion and do my own thing for a while, but i just noticed that i also really needed someone to talk to about this, you're a really good listener"
Alice blushed "Ah, yes y-you're welcome, just try to take care of yourself"
"Of course, sorry about this again i-" Meiling let a long yawn
"We should probably get some sleep before heading out, it's still pretty early"
"Yes, i really am sorry for all of this"
"It's okay stop apologizing please" Alice began heading for her room "no more breaking rocks in my backyard okay?"

A few hours later both girls were leaving the house
"All better now?" Alice asked
"Much better, thanks for helping me clear out my head"
"Right, first let's head towards youkai mountain and then..."
Just as Alice said the "dangerous" ingredients where mainly dangerous for a human rather than a youkai and a magician traveling together, the most eventful thing that day was a bit of a reunion with the tsuchigumo that attacked the Prismrivers, it seemed that Meiling's beating humbled her somewhat and set her on a path to becoming a pharmacist, the main obstacle thorough the whole trip was waiting for Alice to finish some paperwork with guards from all over Gensokyo, Meiling couldn't help but sympathize with them to an extent, the gatekeeper job did look as monotonous as it was working it, one can really go a little crazy just standing in a single spot doing nothing for years, Meiling was once again grateful to all the people that she met who gave her respite from that life and Alice for helping her sort the thoughts she spent so long scattering.

Much like the day before it was sundown "two days" Alice said
*bwuh?* Meiling looked at her while carrying another stack of boxes over her head
"I calculated that it was going to take me a whole week to gather all this stuff by myself, i can't believe we cut the gathering time so short, you really helped me out a lot Meiling"
It was nice to hear that without experiencing inner turmoil "you're welcome, i've been getting that a lot lately"
"Don't let it get to your head now, i'm not playing psychologist with you again unless you pay me"
They both laughed
"Hey Alice, if it's okay, would you like some help with the haunted house once it's ready?"
"Don't you have to look after the mansion that night?"
"It's okay, everyone is going to go trick or treating that night, it's the only time the mistress can get miss Patchouli out of the library too"
"All magicians leave the house to enjoy that night, well if it's not a problem to you i appreciate the extra hands, maybe i can put a magic costume on you"
They kept walking for a bit
"Umh, Alice?"
"Yes?"
"Could you also please not tell Miss Patchouli what i said about...you know"
"Hmm, how much is my silence worth to you?" Alice smirked
"U-uh"
"hahaha i kid i kid, i wont tell anyone, just like with Marisa"

"Yes, you will not believe what comes out of that girl when she gets drunk"

They both rested at Alice's house for a few minutes, the job was over and Meiling got another handful of change to add to the increasingly large pile she had no idea what to do with, finally Meiling decided it was time to leave, there were no emotional goodbyes this time, just a pleasant parting between friends, the few jobs she had left went by more or less the same way, she worked as a bouncer at the gambling den at Youkai mountain, she even had a bit of a reunion with the Prismrivers there, she then went to the underworld to work as a cook at the oni village and finally she fought a man eating plant for miss Yuuka's amuseme- vegetable pie

And then it was finally time for the mistress' birthday, with all the money she had Meiling bought a big box of chocolates to hide the tape inside, Remilia barely could contain her excitement when she saw the movie she thought had been lost resting on top of the chocolates, she had to do an entire showcase on how much she loves chocolate to not come off as a weirdo

And now Meiling was back to where she started, staring into the misty lake, her back to the scarlet devil mansion, but unlike then, instead of thoughts of loneliness and stagnation, Meiling's mind was filled with the memories of friends and adventures she had made during her vacation

The Prismrivers were playing their hearths out that evening, went they found out Meiling was going to be there they set out to give her the best show the could

"You dragged me out of my jacuzzi for this?!" Ki was not happy
"This prank would be funnier if i hadn't been part of it" Sonson was slightly amused

"I know what you're trying Meimei, you're not getting me to mellow out like you did up here" Ki turned around to only to be met with a purple haired oni

Miss Nippaku smiled "i heard that you were going to the surface and wanted to make sure you weren't planing something, it's nice to see you doing some charity service, you are quite a humble leader"

"Well then i shall stay here and enjoy your routine"
"No problems here Lady Nippaku! Come on you two!" Ki grabbed Meiling and Sonson and began walking towards the haunted house "Let's go give those kids the scare of a lifetime" she laughed angrily
